This thread is for those of us who couldn't help but binge the whole series in one sitting. 😁

I loved that it implied Mike saw Robin's outline with the lightning strike.

They will find something worth a fortune that lets them do all the renovations, become a wedding venue or something. Baby will see ghosts

The captain was caught in an accident during action at the house, a training exercise gone wrong, I believe. Robin went to the city and accidentally brought the plague back to his village which killed them all. It was in a previous season, though I couldn't tell you which one!

No, that wasn’t Robin - he was a caveman. The person who brought plague back is one of the people living in the basement with the boiler.

CaveMum · 01/10/2022 17:21

The only thing that bothers me about the gamekeeper and his gnawed leg is that there is no consistency with the ghosts - it's implied that they are supposed to look like they did when they died (Humphrey sans head, Julian with his trousers down, Thomas with his gun shot wound and Pat with the arrow through his neck), but surely Mary and Robin would have looked a little more, er, "crispy" given how they died?

I know it's a family show so we're not going to see badly burned corpses, but there is a bit of a continuity gap there!

Did anyone listen to the latest Ghosts podcast yet? I listened last night and they did say when they came up with the concept of each ghost they had to be instantly recognisable as being from the era in which they died. They talked about Mary's backstory and that they couldn't really show her death, given the graphic nature. There was an awkward moment when the presenter asked Katy Wix if she thought Mary would like to be "sucked off", whether or not it was an intentional or accidental question I thought Katy handled it well given what is yet to come!

ShowOfHands · 01/10/2022 18:50

We don't know how the Captain died yet. He was involved in some top secret shenanigans - and fell in love it's implied - at Button House but he merely buried some documents and an unexploded grenade or bomb prototype. That's not how he died. The plague ghost who brought the fabrics and therefore, the disease back to the village is played by Matt Baynton and is called Mick.

We've talked about Mary not looking too singed but always assumed they couldn't have her looking too scary and could theoretically argue that she died from smoke inhalation or shock or similar before the flames took hold.

My dad treated somebody killed by a lightning strike. He looked untouched. Dad was very affected by his death. He was a young man and looked in perfect health.

Haycorns4Piglet · 01/10/2022 21:19

I always thought it was a bit mean of the cellar ghosts to still be blaming Mick. It was an accident! He was bringing them back furs as presents, which must have been bloody expensive!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 02/10/2022 10:31

Just finished this with my teen dd Ystd, we both loved it.

Going to miss Mary though 🥲 she was my favourite character.

I was definitely getting baby vibes between Alison and Mike, in fact when she was lugging that bear about I thought I hope she's not pregnant!

I was sad the little house they worked hard on burnt down, it was so pretty.

HideTheCroissants · 02/10/2022 19:58

If you look at clothes and use of props (holding piles of linen etc) I think Charlotte Ritchie is pregnant so it would make sense to write a baby in…..

ArcaneWireless · 03/10/2022 15:09

Mary. 🥺

Loved her with Annie.

I’m glad we didn’t get a proper rundown on her end. It would have broken my heart. 🔥

DismantledKing · 03/10/2022 15:23

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 01/10/2022 09:34

Another 😢 at ep 4 but Mary's face was so happy when she moved on.

I'm going to go back and look but wasn't the dad of the birthday girls also the builder who abandoned the job early in the first season, Terry?

No, but they do look very similar. The builder was Steve Oram from Sightseers (which is a treat if you haven’t seen it)

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 03/10/2022 15:32

Still have 2 episodes to watch, so i've skipped a few posts, but in honour of Mary i changed my username, an epic quote from her, from the early dinner party episode, her 'stew update' Grin

CaveMum · 03/10/2022 17:48

It was definitely Robin that had me blubbering in Mary’s episode, when he recounted the names of all those he’d seen move on into the light.

CaveMum · 03/10/2022 17:49

Gah, hit post too soon!

And of course his response to Pat picking out “the brightest star” and me giggling all over again “Is International Space Station!” 🤣

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 03/10/2022 21:01

thanks @DismantledKing, hadn't heard of that one but will look out for it now.

@AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds - I loved that episode and how Alisons plan to rig the card game fell apart when Mary started describing the neighbours cards in a way that could not be understood!

FivePotatoesHigh · 03/10/2022 21:14

@TheWeeDonkeyFella oh yes the cards stuff was brilliant! “A person whose person is also a blanket.” So funny

I wondered about new ghosts. I don't know how they could do that though - they'd have to be historical ghosts or it'd just be too sad (and too much like stepping on Alison's toes to have a modern day one) but why would they not have previously discovered any ancient historical ones? I don't really get that. I'd have thought Robin would have known anyone who ever died around there. It does feel a bit unbalanced now, all the guys and not enough girls!

They could bring in new ghosts in a number of ways I reckon. The house could host a fake seance to earn some money, but it accidentally brings back a ghost who has previously been "sucked off" or is stuck in purgatory.

Or perhaps a spirit could be trapped inside an object, like an ottoman or a chest. And when it's opened the ghost is in there. A chest would work for a pirate. Maybe a female pirate who's roughty toughty and worldly wise, but has 400+ years to catch up on after being trapped in the chest for so long. She could have been trapped in there using a voodoo curse, which is why she was able to be moved, but the curse was broken when the chest was opened. She could have a special ability to use some voodoo magic that she learnt on her travels to mess with guests.

Or they could accidentally dig up or release a ghost that's been trapped underground or in a wall cavity. Maybe they discover an old Roman mosaic in the garden and accidentally release the ghost of a Boudicca type figure.

Or the Button House Ripper who only appears every 10 years on the anniversary of his hanging. He was wrongly convicted and was pardoned but it was too late, the hangman had already started to pull the lever, and when he hung the rope snapped. So now he wonders a space between the living and the dead, with a noose around his neck, and can be seen one night a decade. However, Alison helps him access news of his pardon on Wikipedia and although it's not enough closure to get sucked off, it's enough to allow him permanent residence with the ghosts.

tiredvommachineasaurus · 05/10/2022 09:14

@SuperAwesomeMe awesome plot lines! I'm currently rewatching from the very beginning, so much I missed first time round 😆

FeralWitch · 05/10/2022 20:37

I’ve binged series 3 tonight. I think it’s my favourite.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 05/10/2022 21:11

Feeling v low today, watching series 1 again

Haycorns4Piglet · 05/10/2022 22:50

@SuperAwesomeMe You should get a job on the writing team!! I don't like the thought of bringing back 'sucked off' ghosts, they should be in eternal bliss or whatever, but I think discovering an artefact or something that unleashes one would be cool!

Haycorns4Piglet · 05/10/2022 22:51

@GobbolinoTheWitchesCat It's a great 'go-to' when you're having a bad day. I watch it when I'm struggling to sleep. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you!

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 06/10/2022 14:15

@Haycorns4Piglet thank you, feeling more myself today :) ended up getting as far a s2 lol

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 25/09/2022 21:06

Dunno if anyone saw my posts on the old thread about visiting the house with my DD - she makes TikTok videos about Ghosts and made this beautiful Mary one today, apparently it brought a tear to her friend’s eye (and she’s never even seen Ghosts!) 😢

Oh my goodness that just made me cry! Mary is my absolute favourite, am so sad she won't be in it any more although it was a lovely narrative arc. Hopefully they'll do some cameos in flashback to make up for it.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/10/2022 18:21

Anything that disappears in our house is now referred to as being 'sucked off' and is never not funny 😆

SequinsandStilettos · 09/10/2022 10:31

Wonder what is enough to bring them closure, though? You'd have thought Pat would have been sucked off twice already, given his grandson was named after him and his coming to terms with the scout who accidentally shot him.

Maybe his subconscious (or whatever the ghost equivalent is!) is waiting for his wife to die so he can have her back, in ghost form! We know he feels guilt over not being a better husband to her when he was alive.
