Noticed completely by chance that this is back (Wednesday, C4 8pm).

Nathanael's island was a lovely design and well executed. If Jen had left her drawers plain it would have looked better and Wolfgang's was far too pointy to be practical.

I love this series. Great choice for winner.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2023 21:37

Just watched on Catch up.

I would have been happy with any of them winning but Nathanael was absolutely the right choice. I think if Jen had done her stripes perfectly she might have won though. The mismatch by the drawers was just so obvious.

Wolfgang's skills challenge was dreadful! How did it go so wrong for him? Even had it gone right I think Nathanael would have won though. Well deserved.

They must have had some idea of what the skills challenge would be if they've paid attention to what happened in previous years, so it did seem a bit odd that Wolfgang's was so chaotic.

SoupDragon · 28/11/2023 08:46

It was odd - surely they've used the same glue throughout the contest?

Gold leaf outdoors was never going to be a good idea! He should have gone with transfer leaf that's backed onto paper so it won't blow away.

The screws inside holding the glass hooks on were really ugly too. I wrote him out of the competition at that point.

Perhaps it was extra quick-drying glue, given that they only had an hour or two for that task, whereas they normally have a couple of days for other tasks involving glue?

But yes, using gold leaf for the first time in a challenge like that showed very poor judgment.

Maybe it affects different woods differently? Or it was warmer or damper and that slowed it down?
