Noticed completely by chance that this is back (Wednesday, C4 8pm).

I really thought Wolfgang would go this week. Quite liked Clare's bed !

FreezingThyme · 14/11/2023 17:32

I’m really enjoying it this year. I’m really glad Wolfgang didn’t go this week. I felt it was the right choice even though his didn’t really fulfil the brief. You’d not want a bed in a luxury hotel that you could only get in and out of via the end. And the arches weren’t even. Jacob is amazing. I loved his bed and thought he might win.

SoupDragon · 14/11/2023 18:19

I'm watching! Didn't think anyone else was though. I also thought
Wolfgang was going this week but I guess his bed was properly usable and not difficult to get out of. I thought he was going to be annoying but actually he's become a favourite of mine.

loved the wonky turned bed post toppers that Nathaneal did.

I still don't like Wolfgang, he was so annoying earlier.

LaGioconda · 19/11/2023 21:20

Cross about today's. With an assignment to make a comfortable hanging chair Jen makes something that doesn't hang, isn't a chair, and isn't comfortable - and still gets through? WTF?

RiverCartwright · 19/11/2023 23:02

I love Wolfgang. He makes me chuckle. I love this show though, even DH, who usually buries his head in a car manual during these type of programs, has been sucked in to it.
Jen in the final wouldn’t have been my choice either, but I never warmed to Caroline who seemed to just make a tree look like a tree weekly. Disclaimer, not watched tonight’s yet to see if her build was a bit less stick like than usual.

FreezingThyme · 19/11/2023 23:58

I really loved tonight’s. I love Wolfgang too.

LadyAddle · 20/11/2023 00:11

I like Caroline, her bed was lovely and I thought she met the brief better than Jen this week. She didn't have time for the painting and finish, but her swing seat worked, and looked a lot more comfortable to sit on. Wolfgang could have been a bit more tactful about his immunity when the others were sitting round the fire in worried heaps. His work can be lovely, but he annoys me.

CrossPurposes · 20/11/2023 20:50

I do wish Caroline had painted her seat first and then did the construction then I think she would have got through.

RiverCartwright · 20/11/2023 23:12

Right caught up.
Jens clearly didn’t meet the brief but was very well made . Caroline’s was incredibly rough with terrible painting, glue seepage and poor joints.

I do agree with the choice.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2023 23:34

Caroline screwed up basically. All 3 of them had flaws and hers had the most I think (mostly in terms of the quality of the finish). I was dubious about Jen's but eh judges had decided to let it go as a hanging chair and I think her design concept and finish, coupled with Caroline's unfinished chair, took her through.

OP posts:
RiverCartwright · 20/11/2023 23:36

Hated Jens I add, didn’t even seem to function as a chair as it just tipped back.

LaGioconda · 20/11/2023 23:41

The thing is, Caroline could have just decided not to bother with a comfortable hanging chair and made life much easier for herself, but she didn't.

Jen puzzles me anyway because she has some very odd gaps in her woodworking knowledge for someone who apparently teaches woodwork.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2023 07:56

I don't think Jen was making things easier for herself with her design.

I do think it was probably a close call between them and it was the finish on Jenn's that took her through. Either of them would have been good in the final since Caroline upped her game and moved away from twigs.

I don't think this year's group are quite as good as in previous years. For me, this week was more a case of "who has messed up least" than "who was best" and that's been the case a few times. I don't think there's been anyone exceptional this year.

my woodworking dad would have loved and hated this programme in equal measure I think!

Fabulous result - so happy for the winner!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/11/2023 21:51

Ditto!

FreezingThyme · 26/11/2023 21:53

I was really pleased with the result too. Though I wanted them all to win .

OccasionalHope · 26/11/2023 21:55

Great result.

2Rebecca · 26/11/2023 22:31

I hated the angular worktop which was purely decorative. I liked the V& A themed one and the winner which were more functional

Me too !

LaGioconda · 27/11/2023 08:50

Yay, best result.

If I had Wolfgang's island, it would constantly annoy me that the hob top was at an angle and so much space was wasted.

I wonder whether they get the chance to go back to rectify the bits they had to rush? Caroline's swinging chair last week would be great if she had time to paint it properly, and to be fair Jen's kitchen island would be pretty good if she could rectify the bits where she lost the striping in the wood.

TeenDivided · 27/11/2023 11:39

I was happy with the result too. The winning island was novel but practical, and the knife block good too.

LadyEloise1 · 27/11/2023 13:36

Wolfgang's wine glass holder !
What happened Shock - he was the front runner at the start of the series for me.
It was like the favourite falling at the last fence.

FreezingThyme · 27/11/2023 14:50

LadyEloise1. That wine bottle/glass holder was dreadful. By far the worst thing anyone has made in the whole series. I was gutted for him. I’d not have thought he could make anything that grim. Poor chap.

TeenDivided · 27/11/2023 15:05

The design of the wine glass holder was good I think.

But he used quick drying glue for the first time and it didn't dry as quickly or cleanly as expected. Then he decided to try gold leaf for the first time too and didn't know how to apply it properly (and didn't have enough time either.

Had he glued it up earlier/better and then just oiled it it would have looked really good I think.
