Starting on BBC1 on 23 September.

New series which was inspired by a Mumsnet thread.

The official synopsis for Am I Being Unreasonable? calls it a "twisted comedy thriller about obsessive friendship, maternal paranoia – and a dead cat."
The synopsis continues: "Nic is grieving a loss that she can’t share with anyone and is unfulfilled in her marriage. Only her son Ollie, who she adores, keeps her going. But when Jen arrives in town her life is lit up with laughter and through this kindred soul her dark secret starts to bubble up.
"Shot through with whip smart humour, this mischievous and characterful blend of funny and frantic takes female storytelling to a refreshing and dynamic new level."

@MagnaQuestion Dan took over the family business and they allude to him being successful so they have money.

chaiz · 05/10/2022 19:05

When can we talk about the twists? I have questions!

MagnaQuestion · 05/10/2022 19:08

Ah family business might explain it but its pretty impressive!

And yes certainly not a "comedy" as such really is it?! I loved the twist though.

chaiz · 05/10/2022 19:16

I did find it funny in a very dark way.

Enjoying this only on first episode. It’s left me wondering would that really happen with a train? I’m going to be so worried about trapping my clothes in a train door now! Scary you’d think the driver would check the mirrors before driving off or something!

iklboo · 06/10/2022 19:04

I don't know if trains have mirrors for drivers to check. I'll have to look next time.

Usually the sensors on train doors are so sensitive you can't be vaguely near them or they won't shut so I wouldn't loose sleep!

I've just finished it - it's fab!

I'm curious about the large house though. She doesn't seem to eb working and it's properly lovely!

It is mentioned that her husband took over the family business and has done very well.

DeeofDenmark · 06/10/2022 20:03

I thought it was unnecessary for the little boy to do what he did. It was like she wanted to have him be just like her.

chaiz · 06/10/2022 20:05

Can we discuss spoilers?

There is a spoilers thread.

We binge watched it about a week ago and I couldn't sleep for the entire night afterwards. Fucking creepy scary horrible stuff. She's very very talented. But shivers

chaiz · 06/10/2022 20:27

thanks!

I actually got shut in a door getting off a tram in Manchester this summer. I was half in and half out. Managed to push the door back open and then let my daughter through.
Arsehole driver would have clearly seen if they had looked in the mirrors as I was getting out with the rest of my family. DS and DH were already out. I do worry what would have happened if I couldn’t have used my hands to free myself. Don’t seem to be any sensors!
I did tweet them to complain but got no answer and haven’t pursued it as it was actually pretty scary and don’t want to think about it too much.
Not sure I’ll watch any more episodes if they carry on with that story!!

UnagiForLife · 06/10/2022 20:51

@flippinecknotagain wow that sounds so scary! I remember as a small child almost being left on a London Underground platform as I was lost in an daydream and my mum realising just in time and dragging me into the train as the doors were shutting. It still freaks me out wondering what would have happened if I’d been left there!

Anyway, I digress…. Really not sure I want to watch any more after what people are saying on this thread. I was getting motherland vibes from it after watching the first episode but now thinking it might be a bit too dark for me!

flippinecknotagain · 07/10/2022 00:07

@UnagiForLife how scary for you. I got lost in Hamleys as a child as I got left behind when the lift doors closed. Think there was a panic but I was just looking at toys!!

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2022 08:36

When I was working in London in the 70s I got on the train and the edge of my skirt got trapped in the old fashioned slamming type door. At the next stop that door was on the opposite side to the platform and as I opened it to free my skirt a man grabbed me. He must have thought I was going to jump on to the tracks - poor man I must have given him quite a turn.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2022 08:38

Not sure I’ll watch any more episodes if they carry on with that story!! That story is pretty much the crux of the whole show but nothing is what you think.

I think the first ep very deliberately has Motherland-type vibes to make you think it's going to be a very different, and much lighter, sort of show.
It's really properly disturbed me. Still creeped out by it over a week later.

33goingon64 · 07/10/2022 19:16

Oh it's definitely a comedy. I was snorting at most of it. The sad and shocking bits work brilliantly in contrast with the humour, like real life.

dottypencilcase · 09/10/2022 22:07

Just finished watching and omg- what a head mess- I didn't expect the ending!

Newerversion · 09/10/2022 22:20

DMC is a genius. Pure and simple.

supertato32 · 09/10/2022 22:23

Where can I find the spoilers thread?

cherrysprinkles · 09/10/2022 22:24

I watched it and thought it was brilliant. Loved the whole thing. Totally did not expect the end!

hockeygrass · 09/10/2022 22:43

@supertato32 , search on Am I being unreasonable, it's just above this thread.
DMC has quoted from the spoiler thread on her Insta tonight!
