I don't like jazz that much to listen to , but the piece he put on at the start wasnt too bad
It did have a bit of a 70s feel to it all.
As long as he doesn't do a cover of ' if ' like Kojak did with the soft porn vibe video I think we will be ok.
I predict a Christmas album though.

WildFlowerBees · 29/08/2022 09:58

Enjoyed it but could really do without the 70's jazz and his singing. Bloody awful!

JaneJeffer · 29/08/2022 11:52

Thanks Blondes

ThisIsAddiction · 29/08/2022 23:07

It was very formulaic and predictable. I’d called the outcome in the first half hour and the singing was totally unnecessary. I fast forwarded those bits.
Lots of very familiar faces in it though, it was all just a bit daft.

Passtheduchyonthelefthandside · 29/08/2022 23:14

I watched tonight, I enjoyed it. Called it quits early on that missing girl was the daughter. Didn't call who killed the farmer though.

Sums up what I felt. DH and I worked out the big reveal within minutes and kept asking why the police hadn't even considered that as a possibility on either occasion. Too many cliches - the doll, the Tragic Backstory for Ridley. All very heavy handed.

I kept giggling. Bronagh was pulling faces that reminded me of Catherine Tate. And the cheesy jazz reminded me of The Fast Show. Don't think we'll bother with the next one. Lots of famous actors in it but the script was dire.

PeskyRooks · 29/08/2022 23:33

Hope AD calls his Christmas album "Jesus Mary Joseph and The Wee Donkey "

ThisIsAddiction · 30/08/2022 00:00

It also never returned to the original suspect who was supposedly at deaths door in hospital or the DI who’d planted the evidence against him. Unless that comes in with the next episode it’s not been tied up.

butterpuffed · 30/08/2022 12:46

I noticed that too. A bleed on the brain they said but we didn't find out if he lived or died .

Not too sure about the singing or why it was even in the programme !

ConstancetheGardener · 30/08/2022 16:22

I think the jazz was shoehorned in because AD is a jazz fan and he is now a big star. Plot a bit predictable , we did cop show cliche bingo , it passed the time , you know the sort .. troubled cop with tragic back story , gloomy lighting , feisty female side kick who's in a same sex relationship , our hero at loggerheads with senior officer who may have a dark secret etc etc.

Reminded me of Heartbeat where people would play the piano in the pub.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/08/2022 17:23

@PeskyRooks that would be funny

i am certain lod of duty will be back for another season or more

I've just caught up. Mainly so I could play spot the location😀 Film crews were outside my workplace last winter. The restaurant is about 2 minutes walk away but they had made it look a bit shabby with different tablecloths, decor etc. It's much nicer in real life. Building used for jazz club is on same street.
They've used several towns and villages in Greater Manchester/Lancashire.
I thought it was okay but like others had guessed the mystery and the killer in the first 30 minutes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/08/2022 07:52

You guessed wife shot hubby

and when we saw daughter in police station that she was the kidnapped 3yr. How

I didn't see any of it coming until they said the body wasn't Zoe - then I twigged about the daughter, but still didn't realise it was the wife who shot him!

Winniewonka · 31/08/2022 12:06

I thought as soon as the 3 year old girl who went missing 14 years ago must be the farmer's daughter as the farm wife had said she was home schooled and they never mixed with the villagers.
When the poacher had been eliminated and it couldn't have been the guy with a motive, recently released from prison but wearing a tag, then it had to be farm wife as she was the only one left with a motive.

It's possible you don't watch as much crappy TV crime drama as some of us! Grin

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/08/2022 19:19

Oh I do @goldfinchonthelawn, obviously just a bit slow Grin

E2

when the body of a young woman is found buried in a shallow grave on a bleak pennine moorland carol calls in Ridley to assist with the case

i thought the plot was ridiculous, the characters unlikeable and mostly unbelievable. The singing was embarrassing. The wine bar was always empty. I had high hopes for this but don't think I'll bother watching any more.

eleanorwish · 04/09/2022 09:44

The accents didn't seem right to me, a bit generic.

I was expecting a broader Lancashire accent like Jane Horrocks or Peter Kaye.

I was wondering if it was accurate for the area.
