Thank you!

So glad to see this thread. Thought it was just me!

I seem to be hoovering up way more (streamed) TV than I’ve ever watched before and I’m awfully aware I’m just scrabbling to fill the yawning gap.

Wonderful to see I May Destroy You mentioned in this context! Pure genius. I’d say if you want to feel, then the TV adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend (particularly the first two seasons) is unbeatable. And quite staggeringly beautiful too.

I haven’t yet seen Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul so can’t comment. Assume you’ve seen Money Heist? It provokes the same knawing breathless, hunger for More. Now as Succession.

On a much smaller scale, and home grown - the four episodes long Marriage has been quietly astonishing. It will definitely appeal to anyone who likes being required to pay attention to a screened narrative.

Oh, also - entirely different context but the new Irma Vep serialisation is really excellent! Strange but appealing mix of the surreal and the naturalistic. Wonderful viewing.

Billions?

first season is good

Good call - Billions is fantastic, so many twists and turns in the plot, keeps you engaged.

The Blacklist is pretty good too.

Thanks to this thread I started watching Industry last night. Absolutely brilliant. I stayed up far too late to watch it. Thank you for the recommendation I would never have found it myself.

I found Industry via MN telly addicts thread too! I can't wait for 2nd series.

Billions watchers - I liked the first season but the second started with a very irritating non-binary character (I probably share Logan’s view on people identifying as non-binary) and it put me off a bit. Is it still good otherwise?

Thanks Muddler I’ve started on Marriage as I loved Mum and liking it so far.

Don’t know Money Heist at all, that’s one for the list. Do you need to have read Elena Ferrante first?

Oh! Oh! Oh! If you haven’t seen Money Heist yet you may count yourself blessed. It’s stupendous. Several seasons - you won’t realise how entranced you’re going to be straight away, but you will be. And then of course, after a few seasons you start to complain about this and that. But truly, it’s a phenomenal triumph.

As for My Brilliant Friend - no, definitely not. (Though I found myself kindling the novels between TV seasons.) It’s pretty much the only thing I know that is better as a TV adaptation. Just so lovely to look at.

There are at least two Marriage threads here. Lots of indignant posts from people who didn’t like having to fill in the gaps themselves …

MuddlerInLaw · 26/08/2022 15:52

OG Money Heist, though. There’s another, maybe Korean (?) version I haven’t seen.

aus12 · 26/08/2022 15:56

The Americans, Russian spy drama set in the 80’s. It’s brilliant, my favourite show ever. Think it’s on Disney+

The Great

MuddlerInLaw · 29/08/2022 09:58

<Showing just how much time I’ve spent staring at a screen these past two and a half years …>

Had forgotten to mention Boardwalk Empire! It is Succession with knives and guns. (That makes it sound like Peaky Blinders - there’s definitely some mirroring. And Stephen Graham x2.)

I got totally hooked on Shtisel during lockdown.

Thisbastardcomputer · 31/08/2022 19:27

Thanks for the Yellowstone recommendation, it's great x

Zott · 01/09/2022 12:34

@Thisbastardcomputer oh good, someone else likes it! It’s huge in the States but I don’t know any one other than me has watched it and loved it.

Netaporter · 02/09/2022 17:41

@Zott there are a few of us on the Yellowstone chat. Feel free to come and wax lyrical about moving to Montana and getting your very own Rip 😂
