You haven’t missed much, newbies straight in straight out apart from one for danica

Donaldducccc · 26/07/2022 19:22

I watched LI this year because of Tasha, my DD has 2 implants since age 3 we signed with her until then. It’s actually pretty disheartening to see the abuse she got. I think her and Andrew now seem to genuinely care for each other.

Without the magnets on the head my Dd can hear nothing, we needed to get a flashing light fire alarm as at night she wouldn’t hear without her implants on. my DD also finds listening extremely tough and often after lunch it’s hard to keep her engaged in any sort of school work, it’s called listening fatigue. It is tough.

I do think we all needed educating. It was assumed by a lot of us (myself including) that a cochlear implant would result in near normal hearing.

Perhaps this is the problem within the Villa.

Either way, I hope we all learn.

Love to your Tasha @Donaldducccc

There is nothing wrong with Andrew saying Tasha was a terrible singer - she was! It is patronizing to people with disabilities to treat them differently and pretend everything they do is amazing. His comment was exactly the truth and I am sure Tasha know she can't sing. So many of them did things they were terrible at. She had fun just like the rest of them.

Would you say some one who has a limp walks terribly? I understand what you mean but Tasha voice is impacted by her deafness. It would be better to say nothing regarding her vocals, but l don't think Andrew was being deliberately rude.

I think excluding people from good natured ribbing that everyone else is part of because that person has a disability is not really a good thing. Tasha can dance to music and be very rhythmic (watch her dance videos) so she can hear music - she just isn't an amazing singer (deafness or not). I actually have a disability affecting my leg / foot and I hate when people think they have to be super sensitive and politically correct and not joke or include me in things...because I have a disability. I get everyone is different and some people are really sensitive and want to be excluded from jokes and ribbing because it would hurt them but given Andrew and Tasha have been around each other for 8 straight weeks and this was everyone doing badly - not singling her out in some way, then likely Andrew knew she wouldn't be hurt and offended by a comment about her singing. When you have a disability not everything has to be about the disability all the time.

And if we were all tripping over rocks, I would be perfectly fine with being included in the comments and jokes about tripping over rocks and would actually like that....versus others joking about it but saying don't say anything or joke about MLM because she has that leg problem.

This. Agree wholeheartedly.

@Midlifemusings I guess it depends on the context and person saying it? I'm autistic and if someone comments on my awkwardness I feel uncomfortable. Although my dh makes fun of my illogical brain sometimes and that doesn't bother me. My ds stims a lot and I'm very defensive over people making fun of him.

SouthOfFrance · 26/07/2022 21:03

I definitely agree, I've learnt a few things about cochlear implants from these discussions. I had no idea they took so long to be fixed, or how tiring it can be to wear them. I do wish LI had taken more opportunity to discuss these types of things with the islanders. Then again, they only seem to be showing endless convos of people asking inane questions about what someone's type is, or how last night went. Yawn.

Right but she intentionally chose to do this - something she wasn't good at for laughs - just like everyone else. She chose to sing in front of the group, knowing it isn't a talent. She also knocked the cup over and got mixed up with the lyrics. This was a light hearted talent show and pretty much all the contestants did acts that made people laugh at their lack of talent.

Maybe she actually thinks she is an amazing singer and Andrew was just being cruel but that wasn't the vibe I got from the talent show at all. It wasn't serious and everyone was laughing at each other given what people chose themselves to do as their 'talent'.

FiloPasty · 26/07/2022 21:06

I need the low down! What’s going on?

PancakesWithCheese · 26/07/2022 21:07

I don’t get what is up with Ekin.

jay55 · 26/07/2022 21:08

I don't get it either. They'll all go and get wasted and let their hair down after been in there for weeks with limited drinks and no phones

Here family explained the same, they said one ear has no hearing and the implant side has a constant light buzz and the position of the microphone makes hearing still difficult and she has to lip read, when people are drunk or shouting it distorts their lips making it hard, wearing it for hours, plus this makes her tired, frustrated and emotional, she has been ripped apart on here over the last few weeks, some really nasty posters.

PancakesWithCheese · 26/07/2022 21:26

This challenge is so stupid. Well, I mean, they all are…

CarpyDiem · 26/07/2022 21:27

Challenge is appalling.

And, even more unforegivably, it's dull

Aquarius1234 · 26/07/2022 21:28

This challenge seems like its been going on for 30 minutes!!
