dh and I do. the only place we have ever seen such perfection is in John Lewis. the whole lot, right down to the strategically placed child-related clutter, it's all John Lewis

ironic really. men are incidental. in a program whose very title is a label for a woman based on her relationship with a man.

there was an interesting piece on the radio a few weeks ago - about the language of "mistress". 2 interesting things I remember: 1. there is no male equivalent. 2. its origin was in the royal courts - where a number of powerful women were woo-ed by men lower down the pecking order - thus getting the men a bit more political influence. and in these cases the woman was very much the mistress - ie she was in charge of the relationship and called the shots. oh how things have changed.

Talking of Max Beesley I had a bizarre encounter with his mother on a train about 10 years or more ago. She was sitting in the seat next to me and we started chatting and she was talking about her son. She said he was going out with Mica Paris and he was going to be quite famous soon and that his name was Max Beesley. I remembered the name but thought yeh right. But right she was.

beansprout · 17/01/2008 13:50

Did she look like a chimp?

SaveScrabulous · 17/01/2008 13:55

lol. erm maybe she had some facial hair but no.

I don't remember to be honest. Just remembered the conversation as it was quite odd.

noddyholder · 17/01/2008 13:57

I LOVE it!Pure womanly gossipy tv Big glass of wine fire on heaven

ladylush · 17/01/2008 16:51

I wouldn't want to watch it with dh - I bet dadada's dw feels the same

ladylush · 17/01/2008 16:52

Not cos he might be lusting after the women in it but cos he talks all the way through my programmes

carmenelectra · 17/01/2008 17:02

I still cant get over the fact that Siobhan is 46. I know im boring. I even showed dp her last night to guess her age(he remembered her, surprisingly from the wk before in her undies)and he guessed at 37. Im seriously jealous.

DaDaDa · 17/01/2008 17:06

Are you calling me a gobshite, ladylush?

ladylush · 17/01/2008 17:09

lol dadada No, just thought maybe your dw might like to watch it without commentary. You might be well-behaved when you watch tv with your wife but my dh takes great glee in winding me up by talking like he does when the football is on I wouldn't mind, but I don't watch tv much!

blousy · 17/01/2008 17:15

My dh and I were saying how beautiful Orla Brady is when we were watching this the other night. I am most encouraged by the fact that she is ALMOST 48!! Over 10 years older than me.
There is hope for us all. (Mind you, I probably look older than her )

DaDaDa · 17/01/2008 17:20

To be honest I think it's the kind of programme that's more fun with a commentary:

'How many nights out is that she's had this week?!'

'She'd never go round for dinner with that weirdo'

'No one would ever say 'who's he sticking it up' (urgh) just because someone walked out of a bloody cupboard'

Posh Footballers Wives is about right. I was addicted to that for a while too.

ladylush · 17/01/2008 17:37

You're not my dh are you

hatwoman · 17/01/2008 17:43

carmen - I got dh to guess too: "late 30s" . when he discovered he was just very rude about her chances of getting pg. except it's completely obvious she's going to.

the more I think about it the more I;m loving this program. tho not sure which I love more: the program or this thread...

bramblebooks · 17/01/2008 17:56

enjoying the commentary here as much as the programme

Oblomov · 17/01/2008 18:03

Will read whole thread later. Am loving it. Dh too.

Oblomov · 17/01/2008 18:30

Have now read thread. Like bramble, enjoying thread prob more than programme !
9/11 dh must have had affair, like Cod said, or else, 9/11 wife would not be a mistress, right ?
I asked Dh which one of the 4 was most attractive. He said wonky hair one. I thought he might.
Laughing at JL and baysitting issues ha ha.
Some of the scenes look like Clifton - I lived in Clifton - well pooosh.

carmenelectra · 17/01/2008 21:52

oblo,
Which is wonky haired one?Is it the shagging one?

carmenelectra · 17/01/2008 21:55

Oh and where have I seen dad from the school before?

Did he used to be in Brookside years ago? I must text my sister, bet she knows!

beansprout · 17/01/2008 21:56

It's the event organiser one who is about to have a ladyshag.

beansprout · 17/01/2008 21:56

DrNortherner · 17/01/2008 21:57

He was in that medical draam with Max Beesley and was David Brent's boss in The Office.

carmenelectra · 17/01/2008 21:58
