Based on a true story.

a true crime tale of the killing of a British family al-Hilli

saad and Iqbal a married couple from Surrey and her mum suhaila were killed in a violent attack

their two daughters zainab 7 and seems 4 survived

a French cyclist sylvain was also at the scene and shot

they were shot dead whole holidaying in the French alps

ten years later their murder is still unsolved

weirdly enough the wife iqbel was once known as Kelly and was married to a man called James Thompson

he died the same day miles away. His sister judy think he was poisoned ………

was it a crime of passion , political assassination or homicidal family feud

I’ve always been fascinated by this. It’s all very strange but I had no idea about the wife’s ex-husband also dying though! I’ll be catching up with them all later in the week.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 26/06/2022 22:21

Very interesting documentary. Trying to stream all episodes tonight, but it's taking a while to go on all 4

Fuckitydoodah · 26/06/2022 22:25

I have never read that about the wife's ex husband either. That seems one hell of a coincidence.

sashagabadon · 26/06/2022 22:29

Yes I watched it and remember it at the time. It seemed to be pointing to the brother ordering the hit over an inheritance dispute. Sounds plausible to me although how would a hitman know they would be driving along that road at that time and they would stop the car and park exactly where hitman was hiding. All very strange!
i missed if the two girls survived ok and presumably if so they will inherit their parents house? ( if that is what it was about?)
no answers really. I did not know that about the wife’s ex husband. That is a very weird co incidence.

TokyoSushi · 26/06/2022 22:40

I remember this when it happened and watched tonight. I didn't now about the wife's ex husband. It's a fascinating case, I can't decide if the brother has anything to do with it yet.

It said that they agreed that Saad should stay in the family home, I assume it was their Mother's house and he maybe lived with her? It looked like it would be worth a lot of money, but still not something to have your brother assassinated over.

Looking forward to the next episode...

Was this where the children or at least one was hiding under her mothers skirt and it took the police a long time to realise she was there? It makes my blood run cold thinking about what she must have gone through hiding there and not daring to come out.

Yes that's right, apparently she was there for over 8 hours at 4 years old, awful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2022 22:56

She probably converted to Islam and changed her name to reflect that.

FurFan · 26/06/2022 23:52

Bit of an odd reaction by the brother at the end. I can’t imagine laughing when asked if I’d organised a hit on my brother’s family. However long ago it was and however unreal the question felt? Lighthearted laughing rather than vehement denial? I wish the Faking It experts could get their hands on the footage!

Maves · 26/06/2022 23:59

Yes agree the brother was acting a bit off./strange.
The cyclist at the beginning was a bit off too Brett...I'd have thought that scene would have traumatised him, but he was very Blaise about it the holes in heads comment 😐
I don't think they will ever know for sure what happened. Also I was quite shocked he got in the car without his daughter and tried to drive away? I knew about this case at the time but didn't know that.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2022 11:48

It’s all very strange

I've just watched the first episode, the rest is available on the Channel 4 player.

Re a previous question about why the wife changed her name, presumably she changed it to Kelly to fit in with the US culture when she was living there and married an American, but reverted to her original Iraqi name when she came to the U.K. and married her Iraqi/British husband.

Shopgirl1 · 27/06/2022 13:33

I was watching a report on it on YouTube - apparently Iqbals mothers home in Sweden was also broken into at the same time and documents stolen. All very odd.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2022 13:40

Def sounds like the family was picked. But why

guess we will never know

I watched it too, and can't wait for the second episode this evening. I remember it happening, and also being fascinated then as well.

I hadn't heard about the ex-husband dying on the same day, but sometimes these strange co-incidences do happen. But the break in at the mother's home in Sweden - that's one co-incidence too many IYAM.

I hope we find that the girls are both alive and well and leading a happy live at the end of this, they must both be in their mid teens now.

Shopgirl1 · 27/06/2022 16:04

I believe they were both given new identities but to protect them.

Does that mean they aren't living with a family member them? I had assumed that they would be with the uncle.

Shopgirl1 · 27/06/2022 16:51

Not sure about that. Heartbreaking what they went through.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2022 17:30

Oh. I thought they would live with family

tho true if the eldest was Shit at their lives are in danger

They went into foster care and given new identities not to family,
I have watched all 3 episodes I’m still unsure what I think but I don’t think the brother/uncle was involved
