Based on a true story.

a true crime tale of the killing of a British family al-Hilli

saad and Iqbal a married couple from Surrey and her mum suhaila were killed in a violent attack

their two daughters zainab 7 and seems 4 survived

a French cyclist sylvain was also at the scene and shot

they were shot dead whole holidaying in the French alps

ten years later their murder is still unsolved

weirdly enough the wife iqbel was once known as Kelly and was married to a man called James Thompson

he died the same day miles away. His sister judy think he was poisoned ………

was it a crime of passion , political assassination or homicidal family feud

I remember this story . Very sad .
So many theories though and those poor girls .
I wonder who raised them .

Bit of an odd reaction by the brother at the end. I can’t imagine laughing when asked if I’d organised a hit on my brother’s family. However long ago it was and however unreal the question felt? Lighthearted laughing rather than vehement denial? I wish the Faking It experts could get their hands on the footage!

Yes I thought that .

You'd normally be totally indignant at being asked that not just chuckle / laugh .

AuntViv · 27/06/2022 20:27

Such a strange case. Definitely felt like a hitman. Horrible that he shot the child and also I was surprised the dad tried to drive off without his child.

I can't figure out if the target was the cyclist and the family were collateral damage or vice versa.

The poor kids.

The brother seems shady but can't work out if he'd really wipe out his whole family over a dispute. It seems unlikely but stranger things have happened.

I agree regardless how someone would know at what time and when they would be passing. I know there was talk (rules out apparently but I'm still not convinced) that the cyclist was the target and maybe if so the hitman would have more of an idea of his whereabouts and timings if he regularly cycled the route on his off days.

NetballHoop · 27/06/2022 20:43

Thanks for posting this. I drive past their house on my commute and remember the TV crews parked outside. I'll watch on catchup when I have time.

I'd really like to know what happened, and I hope the two girls are well looked after. In my minds eye the cyclist saw something and was killed trying to help.

FayeGovan · 27/06/2022 20:49

What dad tried to drive off without his child, i missed that

Winniewonka · 27/06/2022 22:16

I watched it last night, I don't think it said he tried to drive off without his daughter. It said how awful it must have been for him realising she was still outside just before he was shot.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2022 22:21

Seems weird the cyclist was shot

but was the target meant to be him

unless the family was followed somehow

how would the killer know was going to stop there

Just seen the next instalment, the brother is very shady , seems guarded like half his story is missing . If he's not guilty he is at least guilty of being suspicious so the police waste time on him .

Given the multiple avenues of investigation and the time that has lapsed I very much doubt it'll get solved .

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2022 22:23

Im Watching on +1 as was watching sherwood

I'm sure the cyclist must have been the target.
I think the family must have happened upon something dodgy going on by chance and whoever it was couldn't have risked them going to the police.
The cyclist must have been there with someone else (more than
one?)

Bagpuss2022 · 27/06/2022 23:24

I think the cyclist was the target too he was te first shot and the last and the most! Hmm too much of a coincidence for a witness I think

Why didn’t they release the photo fit of the bearded motorbike

Why didn’t they release the photo fit of the bearded motorbike

Operational reasons apparently - the French police thought it was the killer and didn’t want him to know they knew what he looked like. Apparently it was a source of tension between British and French police.

user1471517095 · 28/06/2022 22:01

I've just finished watching this. The French investigators did not cover themselves in glory did they? Letting the first witness on scene go home in his bloody clothes and his wife washing them. Then finding the missing passports in the victims jacket pocket after 2 years!

gingersplodgecat · 28/06/2022 22:09

Pretty damning, wasn't it - how on earth did they miss those passports? What other vital evidence did they miss?

How come they concentrated on one angle so much? Why were they so convinced that the crime was due to an inheritance feud, yet totally disregarded a similar financial feud involving the cyclist?

MidwichCuckoo · 28/06/2022 22:29

I watch a programme where 2 criminal barristers re examine historical cases to see if they think the original conviction should be upheld. Some of the French police methods remind me of how things were done in the UK in the past. Decide what they think happened and then don't pursue any other avenues and then try and wear the suspect down aggressively until they give in.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/06/2022 17:09

Sad no closure 10yrs on

FayeGovan · 29/06/2022 17:16

Yes, if the French detectives hadnt mucked it up so much there might be a better outcome.
The poor brother, losing your brother like that, not having chance of custody as you're a suspect, then living with false accusations for years. Terrible.

LadyEloise1 · 29/06/2022 17:31

I'd love to know the background to Iqbal's time in the US and where she met her, what appeared to be, much older husband. Was it a marriage of convenience ?
I haven't seen the whole series yet.

LadyEloise1 · 29/06/2022 17:51

@Shopgirl1
Where did you see that Iqbal's mother lived in Sweden ?
What about her family - had she siblings ?
All so strange.

Shopgirl1 · 29/06/2022 18:12

I think it was on that Channel 4 documentary, but if not, then on another account on YouTube, I watched a few in the last few days.

Shopgirl1 · 29/06/2022 18:16

I’m pretty sure I read Iqbal had also lived in Sweden at some stage too, I think before the US.
