Man Yee is very talented and very modest. Always saying 'I don't know much about ...'. i hope she wins now.

DoubleGauze · 16/06/2022 15:56

@CaptainMyCaptain yes , her handling of tricky fabrics is what impresses me the most. I know she didn't finish the edge of her side seams , but there were no puckers at all. She's fantastic.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2022 16:19

She has had bad weeks as well so she's not infallible though. Which is nice to see! it can be annoying when they never put a foot wrong 😂

this week I've made a hat and a beach bag and have managed to sew wrong side to right side on both of them - it's reassuring when the contestants do similar things.

BattenbergdowntheHatches · 16/06/2022 16:23

Man Yee has been amazing from the beginning, but Debra has had more of a “journey” I think. She was definitely shonkier at the start of the series, but she gets better every week.

I think Brogan is a sweetheart and I love her accent. I’ve noticed they showed her giving Man Yee side-eye a couple of times and I hate that they’re trying to ham up the competition between them - so tedious how they try to create drama.

Man Yee for the win, for me. Sad to say I think Annie will be next for the chop… glad she got GOTW though, well deserved.

I made a new cover for my dds v pillow out of a lovely used duvet cover. Put it on, one side perfect, the other I had managed to cut it out upside down. I thought I had double checked, but seems not🙄

I saw this earlier today on Brogans Instagram story

That's so mean :(

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 16/06/2022 18:00

Brogan seems to have a great personality and I think she's very pretty. Her voice has also grown on me and now I find it quite soothing.

Maireas · 16/06/2022 18:18

Yeh, I'm sure Steve has a gorgeous voice, beautiful eyes and amazing legs, can teach MFL in a secondary school and make lovely clothes. Not.

Frenchfancy · 16/06/2022 18:30

Brogan looks lovely with dark hair on her Instagram.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2022 18:32

Brogan has relaxed as the series has gone on. She seems like a good laugh.

OperationRinka · 16/06/2022 18:45

I think it can be a bit off-putting when a contestant on GBSB / GBBO is always seen talking you through what they're doing, and Brogan does do a lot of that. It always gives me the impression that they've got their eyes on a post-competition media career.

However, I know it's unfair to judge on that basis given that a) she's of the Instagram generation so it probably comes naturally b) she's an actual teacher for a living c) we only see what the editors choose us to see d) we probably weren't shown the director saying "Can you please just explain to the camera what you're doing now Brogan?"

I really like that. I think they used to go into the techniques more in previous series' and I miss it.

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2022 21:41

Just watched on Catch Up. Sad to see Cristian go. His dress was lovely but that's because it was a more forgiving fabric.

Wish someone had made a dress in beautiful Atonement green.

I loved Sara's 30s look this week.

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/06/2022 22:24

Ulysses · 16/06/2022 07:22

Yes, shame about Cristian's fabric choice. The dress was beautiful as well but I think when things are so close between all of the contestants that's an automatic fail for the quarter final.

I loved Man-Yee's blouse as well, the design of the collar was so unusual but yet so art-deco 30s. Brogan had a bad week but so might have Annie if she didn't pull it out of the bag with her dress. Saying that I don't think Brogan's won GOTW has she? There's still no clear winner though.

It's been such a great series, I wish the episodes were two hours long. Amber Butchart's fashion history parts are a nice touch. She did a programme called A Stitch in Time and part of it was recreating historical garments using techniques from that time. It's a shame it's not on iPlayer anymore.

Stitch in Time was a superb programme.

I hoped there would be a second series, but alas not. I'd love them to re-show it though.

I agree that they shouldn't try to rack up drama or manufacture rivalries.

One of the things I LOVE about this programme (and Pottery Throw Down) is how kind and generous they are to each other. In previous series people have helped each other work out patterns, shown each other techniques, lent each other equipment.

It's just delightful!

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 16/06/2022 23:45

I didn't even like the editor's choice in an earlier episode to show Man Yee accidentally giving the wrong advice. She clearly felt awful and it just wasn't in the spirit of the programme to include it.

Summer15coming · 16/06/2022 23:50

@Emotionalsupportviper the supportiveness thing, or lack of it, is one of the biggest things which makes the American versions of this type of programme so much less charming.

Emotionalsupportviper · 17/06/2022 09:14

I haven't seen a lot of the US shows, but they're certainly more cut-throat.

I watched a few episodes of some glass-blowing thing, and it was brutal!

I like something that makes my heart go warm and fuzzy.😊

LadyAddle · 18/06/2022 11:13

@Emotionalsupportviper @Summer15coming I don't know, I've been watching an American baking show on Food Channel, Best Baker in America, and they've all been pretty supportive to each other throughout the weeks - downright cheerleadery in the bake offs and very appreciative of each other's skill. (Even the judges say things like "you go girl", imagine that falling from the lips of Prue Leith.) The final with last three bakers last night was really heartwarming. One woman who looked all along as if she could well be the winner was in a mess with her timing - the other two pitched in, and helped her assemble her showstopper. There was 25000 dollars at stake as well as prestige, so I thought that was lovely. I don't know how I'd have felt if she'd won, though - perhaps the judges took the fact she'd been helped into account.

Emotionalsupportviper · 18/06/2022 18:45

Oh, that's lovely @LadyAddle !

It heartens me so much to see things like that.

Wbeezer · 18/06/2022 19:08

@SoupDragon my Mum made a Humpty Dumpty for my brother, I think they used to put patterns in Family Circle magazine (or might have been Living). She also made us Hollie Hobbie Ragdolls, a giant tartan Nessie you could sit on stuffed with the discarded tights of our entire cul de sac, an Emu puppet and her piece de resistance an life sized dummy for my brother to wrestle with that he once alarmed a passer by by throwing out of his bedroom window!
She was a very industrious woman.

Wbeezer · 18/06/2022 19:15

Sewing Bee has inspired me, i couldn't find what I was after to wear for DS2s graduation bought a pattern and some lovely cotton lawn and made a blouse to go with some wide legged trousers I already had. I did French seams for the first time after seeing them on the show, what a difference they make to the finish.
I was rather pleased with the result and am looking forward to someone asking me where I got it so that I can say "Actually, I made it myself" 😁

👋

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 18/06/2022 19:49

It's not just Brogan who talks through what she's doing - they all do. They must be asked to. She's the one who's been the most unfazed all the way through. I think she should win, but the fact that some good sewers have gone home shows it's not just about sewing well - you have to be imaginative, hit the brief and be able to solve problems.

Sewing Bee has inspired me too! I've never done much sewing but I designed and made something for DD - it came out really well!
