Is anyone else really excited about the new series tomorrow? I'm not sure if it's going to be a weekly episode or available to binge, but the trailer looks brilliant.

I can't wait to see what happens next although I'm dreading it too, as it inevitably will be the end of Kim in one way or another.

I’m sure one of the other gangsters was goading him about his boyfriends death?

I also wondered about the water! It must mean something...

I think the reason that Gus put down the wine and left is that the sommelier described the wine as having a bloody taste with iron notes. This seems to have shocked Gus out of his enjoyment and back into drug-lord mode. It seemed very obvious when I watched that it was this comment that did it.

Ah! That makes sense. There was a big thing made of blood too, cleaning it up and Jimmy eating something that resembled blood.

KittenKong · 20/07/2022 16:21

It was very nicely shot and set up. I enjoyed watching it.

0blio · 20/07/2022 16:39

I'm feeling really sad after watching this latest episode. No more Jimmy and no more Kim - unless they meet up in Nebraska (where Kim is from) in the future. For some reason I was convinced Kim was going to tell Jimmy she was pregnant.

I hope we see what happens to Gene.

PrawnGoDookaDooka · 20/07/2022 20:44

I thought the wine guy made Fring realise he couldn't get close to anyone or they would be a target.

I've always thought of BCS as how Jimmy became Saul but it's not just his journey, is it, it's also Mike's journey from stand up guy to putting dead men in fridges and becoming the type of person Nacho's dad would detest.

The water - wasn't that the pool that Fring's partner was killed in?

Whataboutno · 20/07/2022 22:05

Yes it was the pool where they drowned his partner. I can't believe there's only 4 episodes left!

Furries · 20/07/2022 23:58

Great episode.

I’m obviously a lot more basic in my thinking. I felt like Gus was enjoying going back to a venue where the staff obviously knew him. And was enjoying (or not) the glass of wine he had.

For me, I was muttering “why on earth would you accept a drink from a bottle of wine which, supposedly, was opened due to some flash bastard the day before?” So it felt like Gus suddenly realised he needed to take way more care, that there could be danger anywhere.

Then I remembered that his first glass of wine came from an already opened bottle!

I am rubbish at seeing the hidden meanings in stuff like this. Which is why I like threads like these. They do the hard work for me 🤣

MargotMoon · 21/07/2022 10:26

Ooh yes good point about the wine tasting like iron/blood! 🍷 And also that he could be potentially drinking poison.

And yy to it being Mike's journey too

BCS is a many layered thing! I can't wait to rewatch BB after it's finished

I'm the same!

I stand on the shoulders of giants when it comes to decoding the very subtle messages in these series.

HuggyWuggy · 21/07/2022 18:50

What an episode! Probably the best in the series. I believe Rhea Seehorn has been nominated for an Emmy and I hope she gets it.

It was a sad episode. However, Don Eladio's impression of Hector, cruel as it was, was a laugh out loud moment Grin.

glomerulus · 21/07/2022 22:26

I'm just re-watching the episode to pick up on the small details I missed the first time around.

My take on the scene with Gus and the sommelier is that he's trying to find a small amount of pleasure in his life, then quickly realises that the choices he's made in life means that he can't enjoy the small pleasures of flirtation etc. It's a more revealing scene about Gus than any in breaking bad.

What a stunning couple of episodes. It sheds a completely new light on Saul's motivations too.

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/07/2022 08:07

I think Kim leaving Jimmy hurts him really badly - to the extent that he is determined never to let anyone emotionally near him again. He cuts himself off completely from being open, being the roguish but ultimately kind Jimmy who got the compensation for the little old ladies in the retirement home, and turns himself completely into Saul - ruthless - money first, last and always. He has been let down in love, abandoned, and from now on it will be sex, that he pays for, and no entanglements - being hurt is not happening to him again.

The other possibility is that in order to see Kim safe when she leaves, he pretends he doesn't give a damn about her so that nobody will think to try to use her against him?

I'm wondering if Walt and Jesse will show up soon - we're at the spot where the timelines are due to cross surely?

bluestripeymug · 25/07/2022 17:17

Emotionalsupportviper
I agree that Saul's lifestyle and behaviour post Kim are barriers to the great pain he is feeling.

HuggyWuggy
The don Eladio scene at the pool where Max was murdered was a great one. The twitch in Gus's face as he was searched; his total stillness on hearing Hector's accusations; the tension in Bolsa and his relief when don Eladio bought Gus's cover up. And the humour was great: "ting, ting, ting"! And Hector was utterly humiliated as he was taken off to bed.

Poor old Mike, you can't help but feel for him. Nacho's father's rejection of his offered consolation of "justice" placed Mike firmly in the criminal camp, much to his pained discomfort. And the fence that separated them emphasised the gulf between the decent life of Nacho's dad and Mike's path of criminality.

Can we assume that Jimmy and Kim are safe from Gus? Jimmy was the Salamancas' chosen lawyer and Kim knows where Gus lives and spoke to him on the phone, even if she didn't see him. No, I don't think we can assume they are safe.

Emotionalsupportviper · 25/07/2022 19:57

I agree about Mike. Until Nacho's father told him that he wa no better than the other criminals he was able to tell himself that he was, at heart, a "good guy" - he only killed villains, not innocent people, so that was alright, but now he sees himself through different eyes. He knows that no matter what he tells himself, not matter what his motives (financial security for his grand-daughter), he is no better than Lalo, or Hector, or any of the others. He's a murderer.

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/07/2022 17:23

Has anyone seen this week's episode?

It was excellent - and very intriguing . . .

I'm wondering where it's going to lead.

SeeSawSeen · 26/07/2022 17:28

@Emotionalsupportviper I saw it and LOVED it. This show just blows me away. Only three more eps to go 😭

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/07/2022 17:37

I loved it too SeeSaw - it's breaking my heart that there are so few episodes left . . . and wondering how they're going to tie up the loose ends.

But the B/W episode was really good - (I thought my telly had broken for a minute or two 😅)

Have you seen Breaking Bad?

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/07/2022 19:18

I have watched Breaking Bad - twice (I have no social life 😁). I loved it, but this is even better,

AnyFucker · 26/07/2022 19:53

I have watched BB twice and plan to start back at the beginning of BCS after these last few episodes. I love the atmosphere it evokes, proper escapism but with realism.

PuppyMonkey · 26/07/2022 20:26

Loved tonight’s episode - what a mood change. I really fancy a sticky bun now too.Grin

WombatChocolate · 26/07/2022 21:56

Did Gene’s plan work? Has he got rid of the dim brothers or will they be back to bite him on the bum? I thought he was going to kill that bloke and put him in the packing crate.

What did we think was the purpose of that episode? how did it move the story along towards the resolution we need very soon? Does it mean Gene I struggling to keep Saul suppressed int eras of doing scams? He wanted to take the shirt at the end that would be what Saul would like….and just managed to walk away. Does it mean he can’t bear to stay being Gene and has to go back to being Saul? It feels like a trigger that will end the Gene story??

yesbutnobut · 26/07/2022 22:18

Loved the episode tonight - virtuoso acting from Bob Odenkirk. Love the way the show confounds our expectations. Just when I was looking forward to seeing what happened after last week's episode, they throw this curve ball.

So much going on and i'll have to re-watch it. The elaborate plotting of the theft reminded me of the Jimmy and Kim scams. But Gene having to threaten the brothers at the end showed how desperate his life has become - I don't think he can sustain this Cinnabon life much longer.

Another scene that really struck a chord with me was when Gene had to improvise to keep the security guy from turning round. His story of having no one - his brother's suicide, no wife - seemed to me to show how close to the surface those painful memories are.

A brilliant episode. Funny, clever, sad, poignant and thought provoking. Can't wait to listen to the Better Call Saul insiders podcast dissect it all.

Whataboutno · 26/07/2022 22:26

It was so good, so tense! I think the cab driver is not done with him yet, he has a taste for it now.

Just depresses me that there is nothing else on TV is good as this! I've watched BB twice and BCS twice, I don't know how many times I can watch them! 🤣

bluestripeymug · 26/07/2022 23:39

I have also seen BB and loved it.

These are intriguing insights....I felt that the 'Jeffie' loose end was tied up with this episode after I watched it, but now your comments above have got me thinking it might not be and Jeff and his mom might come back to bite Gene.

Saul/Gene's outrageous and complex plan had tones of fixer Mike in the cutting of the wire on the wheelchair and concealing Jeff in the crate. Saul is back with a vengeance, no more cowed, depressed Gene. Saul is back and devised his high-risk, crazy plot without Kim's input (as far as we know). He has been energised by the threat that Jeff posed.

I felt so excited when the high school chemistry teacher was mentioned!
