Is anyone else really excited about the new series tomorrow? I'm not sure if it's going to be a weekly episode or available to binge, but the trailer looks brilliant.

I can't wait to see what happens next although I'm dreading it too, as it inevitably will be the end of Kim in one way or another.

Strange to think that Lalo was dead within an hour or so of killing Howard. Because of the break, it didn't feel that way.

How were the photos switched? (I fell asleep)

bluestripeymug · 18/07/2022 23:54

As they were sitting on the bed, Jimmy looks at Kim a few times but she stares straight ahead. Has she decided she can't take any more and will leave him?

PrawnGoDookaDooka · 19/07/2022 14:14

Oooooooooffffff.

MargotMoon · 19/07/2022 18:58

HOLY SHIT.

Well of course that was going to happen- of course.

There's a lot to unpack in this episode. I'm too hot to actually do this though so going to have an ice pop and read the subreddit (thanks @0blio Smile)

Kind of expecting that this week but it was sad. Dh and I were getting excited expecting Walt & Jessie to walk in at the end!

I'm glad BCS is released weekly. I like the time to think about it and I generally watch twice as there are so many subtleties that can easily be missed.

Was there supposed to be a clear reason Gus suddenly left the wine bar, or is it open to interpretation?

I assumed he didn’t want to put him in danger.

MyLordWizardKing · 19/07/2022 23:23

That makes sense. Someone on Reddit said it was about him choosing hate over love, whereas I thought maybe someone had poisoned the wine...

KatharineofAragon · 19/07/2022 23:49

I was wondering if he intended to kill the wine waiter and use his body as a Howard double. Obviously I was way off the mark. The half empty wine bottle was obviously supposed to mean something too.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/07/2022 08:26

We noticed a throwback to the episode where Mike's DIL was talking about the first morning when she woke up and didn't immediately think about Matty. The bit when Jimmy was saying to Kim- one day you'll wake up, have breakfast, brush your teeth, and then you'll realise you haven't thought about Howard. It's pretty much identical wording.

Also - Gus seems to have huge affection for nerds. There's the wine guy, and Gail Beddeker (sp?) and possibly he even agreed to work with Walt against his better judgement because he had that nerdy quality? Wondering if maybe they reminded him of his business partner who was murdered by Don Eladio.

PuppyMonkey · 20/07/2022 08:37

I think Gus really wanted to celebrate his victory and sit and have a nice time with the wine waiter and chat about great wine and chill out, then he remembered he was a big drugs baron and better leave and get on with doing that.Grin

I spotted 2005 in Saul’s tax disc thingy in his car, so assuming that is maybe the year we’re in now. I think that’s a bit early for Walt and Jesse yet isn’t it? Some more time has got to pass yet - unless they’re going to speed it all up and jump forward like they did with the scene with “Jimmy” waking up with the prostitute in fully evolved Saul persona?

WombatChocolate · 20/07/2022 09:02

So, do we think that although Kim was preparing to leave, actually what happened was Jimmy ‘left’ or certainly allowed her to leave when he found out that she hadn’t told him she’d known about Lalo? He went from begging her to stay to silence. Is that what this means? That although we all thought Kim must leave Jimmy and he would be devastated, it could have been the other way? Kim said how much she had enjoyed doing the scams and that frightened her. She knew that her and Jimmy together were bad news for the world.

And what about full-scale Saul, living in the tacky mansion and with the hideous office with plaster pillars? That was a big leap. Is it just that the end of the relationship with Kim was so devastating that he decided to go whole hog with his Saul persona and dodgy legal work, or will there be more info to fill the gap in time? Perhaps we don’t need any more info?

I also didn’t understand why Gus had to leave the wine bar so rapidly. It looked like something g occurred to him…but I wasn’t sure what. I guess he allowed himself 20 mins of pleasure and relaxation and celebration of his success, before pushing on - he has total focus - Mike was to restart building the super lab instantly, even though that was a ridiculous ask, without the relevant team etc.

And what about Mike speaking to Nacho’s father? Was that an error with future implications? Is that info going to get out beyond the father and impact the Gus/Salamanca relationship?

Why did Mike go and speak to him? Was it that as a father he had lost his own son and thought Nacho’s father needed closure and so did it even though it might not have been very wise? He seemed to decide after looking at his Granddaughter’s toys - perhaps thinking of her as fatherless? Mike was looking very jaded. He’d just slogged his guts up clearing up the mess of Lalo and Howard and yet Gus didn’t utter a word of thanks but wanted the lab rebuilding to start immediately - totally unreasonable. Shows he’s a very focused man.

Sorry….needing lots of help. Really enjoyed the episode though.

That really confused me, too.

This is my favourite explanation. 😁 No time to flirt with bar staff when you're a crime lord!

What about the glasses of water that Kim and Saul left on the staircase on their way to speak to the widow? What was that about?

Mike comes to his decision over a beer? Gus decides not to ask out/murder the sommelier over wine?

what’s it with the drink?

Interesting! Yes, I was confused by the lingering camera shot of the glasses of water.

MargotMoon · 20/07/2022 13:05

The Gus abruptly leaving thing was a callback to the thing Jimmy said (and Mike said earlier) that he suddenly remembered that he hasn't been thinking about his murdered partner (maybe more than just his business partner?) and suddenly he had to get on with the job in hand.

Mike and Nacho's dad was about Mike slowly losing his morals - Nacho's dad said all you gangsters are the same, but Mike was always trying to be different. Now he's getting sucked in.

There's so much subtlety to this show and BB, it's brilliant. I like the point about Kim and Jimmy, where it could suddenly have been the other way round and he wanted her to go, I hadn't considered that.

Either way we've come full circle now and Jimmy is dead, and Saul Goodman is alive and kicking (until he runs to Nebraska). I think we certainly see a different person now than we did in BB - not so much a lovable rogue as a broken man drowning his emotions in booze and prostitutes... Sad

I studied content analysis many many moons ago - and this is rammed with symbolism. Must dig out some old text books.

Water was a bit of a theme. As was looking at reflections in the water etc. Narcissus? It's fascinating.

It hadn't occurred to me that Gus could be gay, but so many things make sense if you take this angle!

bluestripeymug · 20/07/2022 14:00

I also wondered about the water! It must mean something...

I think the reason that Gus put down the wine and left is that the sommelier described the wine as having a bloody taste with iron notes. This seems to have shocked Gus out of his enjoyment and back into drug-lord mode. It seemed very obvious when I watched that it was this comment that did it.

KittenKong · 20/07/2022 14:09

I thought Gus was gay. Wasn’t his boyfriend murdered ages ago - so that’s why he backed off ?

They described themselves as business partners, but thinking back now to Gus's reaction when he was killed, and the lengths he went to to get revenge, it makes perfect sense that they were in a relationship.

I'm just so dense about these things, I can never tell that a character has feelings for another unless it's spelled out to me. I didn't twig that Jorah loved Daenerys until he said it Blush
