Looks looks interesting. I like seals whether house wife etx

This brand new Channel 5 series follows tenants in social housing who are looking to swap their homes across the UK.

It will show how people are changing their lives by changing their postcode.

In every episode tenants search for their ideal property, going on a series of viewings to find and hopefully agree an exchange. And with home swapping there are no estate agents, so it is down to the tenants to do the convincing and seal the deal.

It is a vital part of life for many council house tenants who bid for a better life, or simply a change in scenery, the series sets out to be a heart warming exploration into this hidden world.

Commenting on the commission, commissioning editor at Channel 5 Daniel Louw said, "Property shows can sometimes feel like ‘how the other half live’. This series takes us into an exciting but unexplored world of trading up and moving on."

Exec producer Tayte Simpson added “Now more than ever, people are taking stock and rethinking their lives, particularly when it comes to where they live. Priorities are changing, from wanting more space and moving further out, to being closer to family...or perhaps further away! Set in the world of social housing, this series provides a fresh take on the property show”

The 6x60 series was commissioned by Daniel Louw and will be executive produced by Tayte Simpson. Coco Maclehose will series produce the show which will air at 9pm.

I got really pissed off watching this especially the last episode.

Some of the people wanting extra space for art when families are squashed into 1 bedroom. Surely there needs to be a farer way of doing things so everyone gets the space they need?

Also seems unfair for people to get prime location properties when others have to scrimp and save for private rent in the same area when there is often little between the individuals circumstances.

planetme · 20/04/2022 22:35

That couple with the twins, way too picky I thought as the first house they saw was lovely.

And then at the end when they said something along the lines of we are getting fed up waiting, might just rent private, well if they can afford to they should IMO!

They had a twin bugaboo pram and a Land Rover, why not sell them, there's a rental deposit 🤷‍♀️

And the snobby comment about one of the houses they saw "it looks really council estatey"

Just so entitled

TheFairyCaravan · 20/04/2022 22:48

Fran and Dave were bloody awful.

”It looks really council estatey” and “it’s really basic…” are they actually for real? They live in a council house, thus want to swap it for another one. They need to stop being such snobs and come back down to earth. They didn’t choose to have twins, granted, however even if they’d had one baby that flat would have still been too small.

I8toys · 21/04/2022 15:48

I honestly don't know how they fit so many bodies into 1 space.

Fran and Dave were just so annoying. 6 of them in a 1 bed flat - madness. Those poor teenagers having zero space. Never mind getting married sort out where you are going to live and put your money into that - priorities were skewed.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2022 19:48

Just seen last nights

i thought that. It is a council estate. They are moving from council to council

not sure what was wrong with the 3 bed house by farm. Yes bedroom no 3 was a bit small but that’s the average size of 3 bed. 2 large. One small

first house I get the hill isn’t great with a buggy but it’s for a year or two. They will be toddlers walking soon

James Bond was a little insane about mum checks but meant well

the 3 way swap was good

one lady looked like a bad Katie price gone wrong 😱

Didn't like Fran and Dave at all ! Going on about how small the third bedroom
Is yet they don't have a third bedroom ...
James Bond man was sweet and not nasty in any way
I would love to live near the farm :)

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2022 00:09

I don’t think one of the teenagers lives there all the time. The dads one

so I would put twins in largest room

bunk beds in smaller /teenager room for when other one stayed

I think James Bond man was making a big mistake leaving his lovely London house for that godawful flat. I worry the seaside dream won’t live up to his expectations. He’d have been better to stay and get a job to pay the bedroom tax while he spent time looking. The couple who had the flat (blimey they looked like they’d had a hard life) were amazed he wanted it too. It was the sort of flat councils allocate to druggies or the homeless.
why do so many people have multiple huge tanks of reptiles when they clearly have no room to move?
it’s quite fascinating. Not convinced any of these people will move. I say that as someone who grew up in council housing and can’t remember anyone swapping back then.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2022 07:55

James Bond was a postman who had to give up job due to long effects of covid

he was being sensible to doenaizs

he doesn’t need a spare room to his hobby

esp if can’t afford the rent

I am amazed tho how cheap council rents are a week 😱

Yes I saw that. Can understand the physical job being hard going with long covid. But he might have managed a supermarket or other job just to give him a bit of time. I felt he was forced into making a bad choice with that horrid flat. Plymouth was his childhood dream, not Portsmouth.

Yes so cheap. A fair rent rather than paying the mortgages/pensions of buy to let investors / Tory chums.

DressingPafe · 22/04/2022 11:00

If he’d really wanted to stay there he could have rented out the second bedroom. This is allowed and in fact, in some circumstances, encouraged. He would have made enough to not only pay the bedroom tax but a decent profit. So while it may have prompted him to think of moving, he didn’t need to. I do suspect that when the novelty of moving had worn off he might regret it. But hopefully it’s worked out for him.

What got me was the couple in Plymouth saying “actually we don’t want to move to London”. They could have told the poor guy before he went traipsing all the way down there! I would have been fuming if it was me. Nowadays with all the technology they could have done a virtual viewing with him, explaining it would need a 3rd person to go ahead.

The couple with the twins were being unrealistic. But if they’re fool enough to give up a secure tenancy to private rent, well that’s up to them I guess.

I've lived in council housing my whole life. I did my first swap in 1985 before technology made things so easy. There used to be a big book in the council offices that you trawled through, making notes of any possibilities. Then there would be phone calls and possible viewings. It was a far more drawn out process then, but at least people were serious. You had to be to make so much effort! Love the programme.

planetme · 27/04/2022 22:18
