Looks looks interesting. I like seals whether house wife etx

This brand new Channel 5 series follows tenants in social housing who are looking to swap their homes across the UK.

It will show how people are changing their lives by changing their postcode.

In every episode tenants search for their ideal property, going on a series of viewings to find and hopefully agree an exchange. And with home swapping there are no estate agents, so it is down to the tenants to do the convincing and seal the deal.

It is a vital part of life for many council house tenants who bid for a better life, or simply a change in scenery, the series sets out to be a heart warming exploration into this hidden world.

Commenting on the commission, commissioning editor at Channel 5 Daniel Louw said, "Property shows can sometimes feel like ‘how the other half live’. This series takes us into an exciting but unexplored world of trading up and moving on."

Exec producer Tayte Simpson added “Now more than ever, people are taking stock and rethinking their lives, particularly when it comes to where they live. Priorities are changing, from wanting more space and moving further out, to being closer to family...or perhaps further away! Set in the world of social housing, this series provides a fresh take on the property show”

The 6x60 series was commissioned by Daniel Louw and will be executive produced by Tayte Simpson. Coco Maclehose will series produce the show which will air at 9pm.

I’m really enjoying this snow being a seasoned swapper (I’ve done it around 6 times). My last move was a 4 way swap, huge hassle but I lucked out big time. Went from a very grotty 3 bed in Hertfordshire to a gorgeous 4 bed Victorian in London. (The people who took mine wanted the right to buy that came with the house).

Some of the London properties (and I include mine) are amazing. Every else I’ve lived has looked “council” but here you really wouldn’t know. My street is a mix of privately owned or rented and HA. I pay £700 p/m which is at the higher end of a SH rent, but the same home rented privately would be 2k or more so I still feel lucky. I will of course never have the equity that comes from owning but I live somewhere I could have never afforded to buy. So swings and roundabouts in my view.

The rents are so cheap!

Won't work for me on the tv. Does look like it will work on my phone - went to ads anyway which was more than the tv.

I couldn't either via the app but I managed to get it on Virgin catch up.

I love this programme. I live on a huge council estate and have been here over 40 years. I think the right to buy came in because rent never covered the actual cost of maintenance.

Our estate was built for the GLC slum clearance programme. It was an amazing place to live. The houses are tiny, but the area was all pedestrianised, with safe areas for children. We felt so lucky to be moved out of rooms running with rats and no facilities.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 06/04/2022 09:58

It's not on tonight. Has it finished?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2022 17:33

I thought was 4 episode

Not sure why not on tonight

I heard it was 6 episodes but maybe the latter 3 have been scrapped. I don’t think it’s gotten much attention at all

coldlistened · 08/04/2022 00:03

Does anybody else find the narrator women incredibly irritating? Her voice really annoys me, and I have family from the north-east who don’t sound nearly as annoying as her. The ‘quips’ she comes out with are cringe and sometimes just insulting towards the people!

The website says episode 4 is on 20th April.

As somebody who did a couple of council house swaps years ago, I met people like that blonde curly haired woman from the first episode MANY times over. Constant snobby comments about your furniture choice “I will make this a show home”, overly-friendly and then as soon as something crops up with the swap suddenly becoming incredibly nasty, seeming the type who will end up with neighbourly issues wherever she goes etc. In all of the council tenancies I lived in most were genuinely normal lovely families but you’d get people like her who were over the top nice, but it wasn’t genuine and you’d be terrified of getting on the wrong side of them.

There were also nosy people who didn’t actually seem interested in considering a with with my house, but would come and view it anyway. I’d go to the effort of making it spotless, they’d come round, look around for half an hour and then declare that they didn’t actually want the area! Or reveal that they hadn’t actually decided whether they wanted to move yet. WTF! This programme is full of that sort of thing. Prime example is that couple from Leicester in episode 2 who went all the way to fucking Devon to view a house KNOWING it was a lot smaller and not even bothering to check the rent.

Viewing really is just a day out for some people.

coldlistened · 08/04/2022 15:59

The people in the most recent episode were a lot more genuine I think about actually wanting to move. Though I didn’t like that one that couldn’t make up her mind about whether she wanted to stay in London or go to the countryside. Make your mind up about that first before wasting people’s time!

The London flats all look absolutely beautiful! I’m no longer in social housing now but if I were I’d probably have a crack at swapping my area (Cheshire) for one of those. I love Victorian flats and I’d absolutely die to live in London.

Dairymilk50 · 08/04/2022 16:01

@whatsthestory123

that blond curly haired one was a right cow

her house was immaculate but she was awful

There was something not right with her. Her house decor wasn't to my taste. She was OTT. The women who pulled out of the house swop last minute... her house was gorgeous bit small but I loved it.

I think it's better though. You have the area.. and that's what people pay for. Your repairs.. are not your worry. I would much prefer it this way.
Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2022 16:13

the furniture is going with them

You can paint the walls

Look at the size of the room via the ceiling and imagine furniture being placed there

I’m not saying everybody attempting a long-distance swap is disingenuous. As I said if I were still in a council property I’d be trying to go to London (for several reasons, my own preferences, for family and to cross my fingers for of those nice flats) but the difference is I’d actually WANT London and be choosing London specifically. I’d make sure me and my family were 100% certain. I’d go and have a look around areas first. I wouldn’t bother going to view properties that I didn’t like the look of purely for box-ticking.

But that Leicester couple going to Yeovil really annoyed me. They knew it was too small and didn’t appear to want Yeovil in particular. I think the woman just though “Oooh, new build!” and that’s the only research she did.

coldlistened · 08/04/2022 16:26

@Dairymilk50

Deffo more going on there. She said her house was ‘bad’ for her son Alfie and he was climbing up the walls. But I think the house she’s gone for in the end had a much smaller lounge and bedroom didn’t it?

I agree with PP that I bet she’s pissed off the neighbours.

Dairymilk50 · 08/04/2022 16:37

@EachandEveryone

All of it. The price is a third of what I pay. Im talking mainly about the two gay men. You would never come away and go private. I wonder what they did for a living. I knew someone who had a three bedroomed terraced in Fulham which you would never have guessed was council we just dont have those kinds of council places up North. And to go to one in Covent Garden for £125 aweek its unbeleivable. I think next weeks looks alot more realistic.
North here too I think the problem with the North they let the houses get so run down to a drastic point. The London life even on a good salary is astronomical so unless your from that way originally I wouldn't want it. I don't think I will live it down how expensive it is underground to travel constantly tapping your card... I would be worried for my child's future too and how they would afford it. London is a great city to experience for a break away. I'm quite thankful I don't have sky high rent like that though.

@whatsthestory123

watching,i cant get over what utter snobs these women are i know local authority are like hens teeth hut they act as if they are better than the others swapping

has anybody told them that they dont own the place they rent and will never own it

yes some of the houses are well looked after but hate the big attitude

Totally !!

I used to be a council tenant and did a swap. While looking for swaps, the superior, snobby attitude of those in "better" areas was laughable ...in our area it's the absolute luck of the draw where you're housed

We ALL got our houses for the same reason, that we were down on our luck and unable to buy or rent privately

I loved this programme wish they'd made more

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2022 20:18

It’s on again next week as well according to sky e5 - a 4 bed wanting to downsize as kids leave home
