Looking for a long running 'warm' series

I find myself needing to watch 30-60 mins of TV to unwind before bed.
I used to read but my eyes aren't what they used to be and they get too tired.

I don't have Netflix or the like at the moment, so I can't have a browse, but happy to pay for a subscription service.

I have loved:

Desperate housewives
Gilmore Girls
Gossip Girls
Mad men

That sort of thing is what I'm looking for.
I love period dramas too, but couldn't get into call the midwife or downtown abbey.

Anything with too much tension or jeopardy doesn't work - I need something gentle!

I'm ideally looking for lots of series to see me through to Christmas! Smile

MindTheGapMoveAlong · 01/03/2022 23:30

@AnyFucker I was going to say Boyhood, or were you thinking of the very old US comedy/drama The Wonder Years?

MinglingFlamingo · 01/03/2022 23:31

Where calls the heart on Netflix and I think there's a spin off but not watched it

Middle class teacher goes to frontier gold rush type village.

MindTheGapMoveAlong · 01/03/2022 23:33

If you haven’t already seen them Rita or Call My Agent on Netflix, The OutLaws on All4

midsomermurderess · 01/03/2022 23:37

Death in Paradise, 12 series, and Shakespeare and Hathaway.

Hart of Dixie is very Gilmore Girls-ish. Dopey, sweet, easy to fall asleep to and a good handful of seasons.

LaBelleEpoque · 01/03/2022 23:42

My votes are for
Jane the Virgin
Lovesick
Schitt's creek
Definitely Anne with an E!

Madame Secretary

@AnyFucker

This is bugging the hell out of me. What was that series (or film ?) called that showed a boy growing up through his childhood life stages. It was just about that. Maybe his parents split up ?

Nothing much happened, but everything happened and it was so bittersweet but heartwarming.

The wonder years?
RobertsRadio · 01/03/2022 23:50

Us, tv series currently showing on iPlayer, absolutely wonderful.
I also loved Detectorists, Motherland, Alma’s Not Normal, Back to Life and Mum - all fantastic shows.

If you like long running US tv shows I would also recommend ER.
