Looking for a long running 'warm' series

I find myself needing to watch 30-60 mins of TV to unwind before bed.
I used to read but my eyes aren't what they used to be and they get too tired.

I don't have Netflix or the like at the moment, so I can't have a browse, but happy to pay for a subscription service.

I have loved:

Desperate housewives
Gilmore Girls
Gossip Girls
Mad men

That sort of thing is what I'm looking for.
I love period dramas too, but couldn't get into call the midwife or downtown abbey.

Anything with too much tension or jeopardy doesn't work - I need something gentle!

I'm ideally looking for lots of series to see me through to Christmas! Smile

Heartland on Netflix for me through the first lockdown. It’s about a Canadian horse ranch. Very calming tv and 14 seasons ❤️

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 01/03/2022 22:40

The Bold Type
Sweet Magnolias

123ZYX · 01/03/2022 22:41

@VashtaNerada

Outlander?
Outlander is a great series, but I found it much too violent when I wanted something gentle
headintheproverbial · 01/03/2022 22:42

Schitts Creek. Warm, sweet, funny, silly.

This is Us is good but oh so sentimental and I cry loads each time I watch.

Downtown Abbey if you've never seen it or worth a rewatch if it was a while ago.

WinterCarlisle · 01/03/2022 22:45

The Good Place
Schitts Creek
Detectorists
Derry Girls
We Are Lady Parts
Grace and Frankie
Ghosts
Call the Midwife (though obvs a bit emosh!)

123ZYX · 01/03/2022 22:45

I agree with

Ghosts
The Good Place
Death in Paradise

I also like
Drop Dead Diva (Prime, but you need to pay extra for series 3 onwards)
Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 Colin Firth version)
All Creatures Great and Small (channel 5)

HiCandles · 01/03/2022 22:46

Schitts Creek
Sweet Magnolias

Outlander I'm not sure fits the bill at all! I love it and could watch and watch but it's in no way easy warm switch-off TV.

CovidCorvid · 01/03/2022 22:47

@MrsMigginsCat

A Place to Call Home - Aus drama set in the 50s/60s.
I was coming on to say this. Love it.
MsHampton · 01/03/2022 22:49

I didn't think I'd like it but the US Office is doing that for me. I didn't love the first few episodes but it's so sweet and funny.

LovedayCL · 01/03/2022 22:49

Suits
The Good Doctor
Virgin River
Chesapeake Shores

123ZYX · 01/03/2022 22:50

I'm trying to remember if there was much violence in White Collar. I don't think there was

AnyFucker · 01/03/2022 22:50

This is bugging the hell out of me. What was that series (or film ?) called that showed a boy growing up through his childhood life stages. It was just about that. Maybe his parents split up ?

Nothing much happened, but everything happened and it was so bittersweet but heartwarming.

That’s a film called Boyhood 2014.
TheVillageShop · 01/03/2022 22:56

What you need is The Waltons

AnyFucker · 01/03/2022 22:58

Boyhood of course, thanks

That was great. Does anyone know where you can still watch it ? Sorry for derail, but it does fit the brief.

Maflingo · 01/03/2022 22:58

The Good Witch (Netflix)

iridescentpaint · 01/03/2022 22:58

Anne with an E
Quite emotional in places but overall feel good

WeirdlyKind · 01/03/2022 22:59

@VashtaNerada

Outlander?
Outlander is one of the most violent shows I've ever seen. Not what I'd call "warm"!!!

Derry Girls is good!

Lorddenning1 · 01/03/2022 22:59

Call the midwife, bbc 1,

iridescentpaint · 01/03/2022 22:59

Also Parks and Recreation for a good comedy

afrikat · 01/03/2022 22:59

The Office and Schitts Creek

WeirdlyKind · 01/03/2022 23:00

@Lorddenning1 the OP literally says that they couldn't get into CTM!
