Finally watched the last episode.

Stand by what I said about Jake and Jenny. They are both unhinged imho.

Still don't know how old Lucy was supposed to be. Must be 16 as both parents seemed OK about her partaking in sexual activities with this Alex boy that Jake then killed 😯

Also, I don't know why the pp was saying about how they would hate to have a friend like Kate. Imho, she was the only adult being honest out of all 6 of them. Alastair and Russ were trying as well. But both their wives were keeping things from them. Rowan's secret about being pregnant was the weakest. I mean wtaf?

To respond to the Irishness thing , quite a lot of the cast are Irish (the two sons, for example - the young one was a magician on BGT!) so am wondering if it was a co production?

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2022 21:15

Also Adrian McCardle who plays Swedish one's DH...

He is Steve Coogan's cousin! You can even see it!!

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2022 21:16

Oh! And the daughter! Bloody hell, they all are!!

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2022 21:20

OK, on further investigation, the only ones who aren't are Jill Halfpenny and the one who plays Izzy. And the Swedish one.

Thought I recognised the Daniel actor from somewhere 😉

It was absolutely rubbish. They looked absolutely freezing most of the time too!

Didn't they?!! It was obviously filmed out of season with the wind blowing and quite chilly. I thought it was utter rubbish too. None of them seemed to even like each other, let alone be best friends since school or uni or whatever. It was 'The Holiday' from hell long before one of them got pushed off a cliff.
the80sweregreat · 07/03/2022 09:31

Most books of this genre is the same these days , a red herring or four and a twist or two at the end!
I watched something on Netflix ( long weekend or something like that ) set in Croatia, it was a film , but it had a similar ish plot.
I didn't realize Croatia was so nice though !!

Meredusoleil · 07/03/2022 12:41

I still can't get over the complete lack of communication between ALL the characters in the story. I mean, had they all forgotten how to actually talk to each other about things rather than trying to second guess and read body language signals all the time ffs?!?

SpanishFly · 07/03/2022 16:00

I'm really confused. Have watched episodes 3 and 4, but episode 5 doesn't seen to exist on Sky or my5?

I'm confused about the episodes too.

The last one I saw ended with Kate deleting Lucy's voucemail to Jake and then smashing her phone and the mirror in the bathroom!

SpanishFly · 07/03/2022 16:11

@meredusoleil same here! I thought it was too abrupt to be the ending, and everyone on here is talking about episode 5 🤔

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/03/2022 17:12

There’s only four

@Blondeshavemorefun

There’s only four
Thank you. It seemed an odd ending to me, then. Very sudden/abrupt.
Meredusoleil · 07/03/2022 19:16

Yes me too. I agree. It wasn't clear if by ripping her ID badge off her neck that she was going to quit her job as a copper or simply not report that her daughter was involved in the hit and run/murder?!?

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 07/03/2022 19:16

My take on the ending is that Kate decided to delete evidence of a crime, hence pulling off her police ID and throwing the phone at the mirror - she’d gone against all her training / instincts / conscience as a police officer to protect her daughter.

Yes that's what I thought too.

She was all set to drop Jake in it. But then it all changed when Lucy admitted she was actually there too 😐

It was a really weird programme
None of them were likeable
And I don't think anyone acted very naturally. None of it seemed very natural to me

SpanishFly · 08/03/2022 15:46

The Swedish one reminded me so much of Linda Barker

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2022 16:01

On the subject of Swedish, someone said upthread she wouldn't call her son Jake because 'Yake' but her name was 'Yenny' Grin. Presumably she isn't Swedish in the book??

purpleme12 · 08/03/2022 16:31

Is the book like the programme?
Is it better?
