It is good but quite odd as the casting is strangely similar to the film version, ie they all look and sound very alike.

That's what happens when you post with a six month old on your lap. Sorry.

onebatmother · 11/01/2008 13:43

no part time at home, the rest of the week i ignore my kids a lot.

onebatmother · 11/01/2008 13:46

and anyway, my freelance contract has just finished amidst a general air of dismal failure and disappointed hopes, and I am supposed to be using the 2.5 days of childcare to do tax and invoicing for also freelance dp.
which is why i am on here rather a lot at the mo.

Swedes · 11/01/2008 13:49

ShrinkingViolet · 13/01/2008 15:43

it's clashing with the Dancing on Ice results

I caught the Mansfield Park adaptation on BBC4 last night. Lovely. Although it made Fanny out to be much more perky than she was in the book IIRC. And missed out most of the childhood stuff. And we actually saw Maria and Henry C in bed together in Mansfield Park itself.

Heated · 13/01/2008 16:16

Whilst all Maria does in the book (pre-elopement) is climb over a locked gate, trying to avoid her skirt getting caught on the spikes, with Henry's assistance & disappearing together into the wilderness (redolent with suggestion) lol.

ruty · 13/01/2008 17:11

oh i didn't like that Mansfield Park film too much!

JackieNo · 13/01/2008 17:19

And Lark Rise to Candleford is on before it tonight. But it's prime putting to bed time, so probably won't be able to watch that.

edam · 13/01/2008 17:49

I know! I found the dramatic licence there rather extreme. Obv. it wouldn't work for film to have someone reading a letter about the elopement but I thought at least they could have spent a few quid on a studio or different location.

can you forgive me?
can you love me?
can you loan me a fiver till Friday?

I liked the way the film implied that Col Brandon fought the duel with Willoughby for both his treatment of Marianne and later we realise for the seduction of his ward. But of course in the book he duels just to avenge his ward, shortly after leaving Barton. He is not present either to catch a fainting Marianne at the assembly when Willoughby publicly rejects Marianne.

Shame we never got to see Mrs Robert Ferrers ingratiating herself with her new mother-in-law and she and her sil, Mrs Dashwood living in mutual jealousy and acrimony - getting their just deserts.

JackieNo · 13/01/2008 21:45

I almost pmsl at Brandon saying 'She needs to be stripped and chafed all over'.

ANd when Elinor came into Marianne's bedroom after she'd been found, I had a bit of an 'Exorcist' flashback (well, actually I've read the book, but I've only ever seen the French and Saunders version).
