Has anybody else watched this tonight? I thought it was compelling.

I've recorded it, will come back later to discuss Smile

sunshineclouds24 · 13/02/2022 07:53

Yes I enjoyed it, I loved Spiral (prob my favourite TV police series ever) and it's created by the same person.

Rshard · 13/02/2022 08:16

Really enjoyed it, managed both episodes which is unusual for me - staying up that late 😂

Iwantacampervan · 13/02/2022 09:23

I enjoyed it but need to watch the last part again as I dozed off (I rarely stay up that late!).

midsomermurderess · 13/02/2022 09:35

So far, so pedestrian.

WeAreTheHeroes · 13/02/2022 09:45

It can be hard work staying awake till 11, especially when you have to read the subtitles.

Why do you say that @midsomermurderess? I feel there is some irony in your comment given your username Grin

Just watched the first two episodes, really enjoyed it,will probably watch the rest later today as it's pissing down here and all plans to do the garden have disappeared!

midsomermurderess · 13/02/2022 11:17

I thought it was pedestrian because, in ep 1, the detective knows they have the wrong man, but why will no one listen! In his frustration he trashes his office and is taken off the case, maybe facing a disciplinary. It up-ends his life, his family and he's dead by 51. Step in his daughter, will her old dad be vindicated? Nothing new there, it's been played out many times before.
However, the showrunner has said it's an exploration of police failure, whereas Spiral was about success, finding the real baddies. So, it might end up being more interesting than at first it seems. And 8 mil an ep in France, they can't all be wrong.

AnnieRich · 13/02/2022 12:12

Also a big Spiral fan and really enjoyed this. I even stayed up to watch both episodes.

Those were my plans too and I'm now thinking of watching the rest instead.

I'm getting really tired of dramas that involve a child being abducted/murdered/add your own depressing variation here.
I didn't realise how strongly I felt about it until I got partway through the first episode and thought, "Nah."
Maybe this is the series that breaks the mould, I hope so.

Same. The subject matter was a bit grim, but I enjoyed it and look forward to the next episodes. The lead actress is stunning.
diddl · 13/02/2022 16:30

What channel please?

IcedPurple · 13/02/2022 16:33

BBC4

diddl · 13/02/2022 16:37

Thank you!

Oh I didn't know that! Sounds very promising in that case. I'm saving it till next week as am currently finishing a binge watch of Waking the Dead, which I never saw originally.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/02/2022 20:54

On planner. Is this tv pace so weekly

species5618 · 13/02/2022 21:11

I was a little wary too pickingdaisies but far I've not felt too uncomfortable given the subject matter. The abduction plots seem to be quite discreet and only placed to set the scene/character development.

species5618 · 13/02/2022 21:19

If you all like a gritty, suspenseful, murder thriller, then may I suggest Scandi offering The Chestnut Man on Netflix.

I thought it was only OK. Rather generic "Nordic noir by numbers" style of thing.
diddl · 13/02/2022 21:29

Only got about 5mins in & the main guy is pissing me off already!

Doubtless he'll be proved right, but he annoyed me so much I can't help wishing he'd be wrong!

It's about the girl in the red coat with the bike?

11yrs old?

Looked about 6/7 to me!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/02/2022 21:55

I've watched the lot Blush

florentina1 · 13/02/2022 22:16

I gave up after 20 minutes. Same old same old.

diddl · 14/02/2022 08:20

@florentina1

Yes that's what I thought.

Was really disappointed & don't think that I'll bother with it.

WeAreTheHeroes · 14/02/2022 08:37

@diddl - I'd persevere beyond 20 mins as there's a twist. Well I thought it was twist.

If you binge watched, please no spoilers or discussion not at tv pace.
