Rafa’s in Indian Wells! Hope he manages to keep up his good run Smile

Raahh · 02/03/2022 16:47

Blimey, those laver Cup prices are steep.

I read about Stakovskiy- his children think he's at a tournament Sad.

I hope Rafa does well in IW- I'm still thinking he might choose to skip Miami though, but I could be wrong.

Raahh · 09/03/2022 07:07

Bit of an early morning rantGrin
I have just checking the draw for IW- to see how tricky Rafa's draw might be, mainly (a bye in the first round, obviously, but could meet Seb Korda, I think, in the second)-

and Djok is still in the draw!!ShockAngry

More bizarrely, IW have an 'I miss you' wall, with cardboard cut outs of top players who are not there( bit odd in itself Grin) I spotted Ash Barty- and presumably there will be one of Roger lurking.
There is a cut out of Djok. Hmm

So what is going on? I thought he couldn't enter the States unvaccinated- why are tournament directors /ATP being so weak when it comes to Djok? It's really not a difficult concept this- can't enter the country- don't add him to the drawHmm.

Fizzywinegum · 09/03/2022 17:12

I will be VERY cross if they allow him to play at Indian Wells Raahh Angry. I think he’s hoping for a loophole - just don’t let him in - why should the rules be different for him (hasn’t he learnt anything from Australia?)

He’s split with Marian Vajda (again) - the last time they split he didn’t win a GS tournament during that time so hopefully they won’t get back together again!

I see that Andy Murray is back with Lendl - will be good to see old grumpy trousers back but not sure how much he’ll be able to help Andy

I think IW starts randomly on Thursday but not sure when Rafa will be playing

Raahh · 09/03/2022 17:28

I saw Djok split with Marian-I'm also hoping that it will be like last time and he does badly (if he's allowed to play). The thought of him being allowed to play is making me cross. He will more than likely end up being able to go play during the clay season, the way rules are relaxing- so I at least want him to have to miss the US ones now.

I will be very happy to see Lendl around the tournaments again- but to be honest, I'm not sure changing coaches all the time is the answer for Murray.

It's always been a funny one, IW- called the '5th slam' and has a bigger draw than the other Masters (apart from Miami).

Raahh** now that they moved Emmerdale to 7:30 I've left Doctors on and feel like I'm tripping Grin

Grin

Jane even I can't watch it twice a day. Reminds me of when Neighbours was repeated when it first started - if i was off school, I would watch it twice. Grin

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2022 19:23

This is my first time viewing though Grin the lady in bed with all the green lights was very psychedelic Grin

Jane on the Doctors thread, we have decided that for someone who is meant to be dying at any moment, Winnie looks very well. (she will be gone by the end of the week, no doubt).

Val was wearing her badger dress, which is always a highlight. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2022 19:29

Her hair is lovely. Must not get drawn in...

I just caught the end of Doctors - what’s going on - I thought it was the afternoon Grin

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2022 19:33

They've changed all the soap schedules Fizzy after nearly 30 years of Emmerdale I am out of sorts!

OP posts:
Raahh · 09/03/2022 19:35

Fizzy It's strange hearing the theme tune at 7Grin.
I don't actually get the point of repeating it- in this day and age, any self respecting saddo fan like myself, would just have it on a series link, Grin.

Raahh · 09/03/2022 19:37

I don't like the changes, Jane .

I don't watch Corrie, and having that on at peak time of 8pm several times a week for a whole hour, kind of makes the whole of the tv schedule in the evening feel like just soaps.

When I was little, I'm sure Emmerdale Farm used to be on at lunchtime and in the evening. In the days of Annie and Amos.
Might have dreamt thatGrin.

I've always watched way too much rubbish telly.

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2022 19:45

It used to be daytime telly originally Raahh I remember my auntie watching it back when they just sat in the kitchen chatting Grin I don't see why they changed it to 7:30 just to air even more depressing news though Sad

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 09/03/2022 19:55

Well that’s confusing! Grin

I don’t watch any soaps now but remember Emmerdale Farm with Annie Sugden and Amos Brierley - not sure if was on the afternoon though - I also remember Crossroads Grin

I did used to watch Doctors years ago - just hearing the theme tune took me right back! I think I once put it on the telly when we were on holiday - DH wasn’t impressed!

Raahh · 09/03/2022 19:56

Jane I think it was one of those programmes that was on after the lunchtime children's tv - all 15 minutes of it (Pipkins was my favourite)- and then the news, and probably something like 'Crown Court'.

Raahh · 09/03/2022 19:58

Oh yes, Crossroads! With the wonky sets and Miss Diane.

impossibletoday · 09/03/2022 20:09

I started watching around 1974/75. It was on at 5.15 after children's programmes and before the news. I don't remember how often it was on. It was mainly based around Annie's kitchen table. There were farm animals a-plenty!!!

impossibletoday · 09/03/2022 20:11

Impossible - we are brilliant at de-railing our own thread. Mostly my fault. Sorry. Blush

To get back to the tennis (much as I like the soap chat - my favourite was the double bill of Home and Away and Neighbours after school!) I was idly flipping through channels last night and came across highlights of something I had never heard of before - Tie Break Tens. Eight women, and they all just basically play a tie break (first to 10 points wins) until they end up with a winner. It was quite entertaining! Anisimova won. Anyone else heard of this before?

Raahh · 10/03/2022 07:02

Chessie I saw that advertised, but didn't get chance to see it. It's been going for a while, though I've never really got my head around itGrin-I have a vague memory of Tim Henman having something to do with the first event in London.

And back to the farce that is becoming IW- it is now being reported that Djok has withdrawn from IW and Miami- it totally messes up the draw, (Dimitrov takes his place) which should never have had him in it in the first place Hmm.
