It turns out, that his original tweet actually tagged the wrong Medvedev Grin.
(I don't actually use twitter, but I found it in an article).

So that's quite funny.

Raahh · 30/01/2022 19:42

(The MedWed33 person in the quote I pasted, it turns out, is not Daniil).

Grin
Raahh · 30/01/2022 19:53

I will get post-Slam blues in the morning.

Be prepared for inane ramblings about nothing to with tennis, just to keep me distracted. Grin.

ChessieFL · 30/01/2022 19:55

Thanks Raah. Not as effusive as Fed!!

Raahh · 30/01/2022 19:58

Chessie noGrin. The twitter equivalent of 'through gritted teeth' or 'my mum made me write it' really. Grin.

StartupRepair · 30/01/2022 21:00

Ok off to work after 5 hours sleep! I thought Daniel's speech was quite sweet. I think he has turned off the crowds here with arguing with the umpires etc. And Rafa has always been adored here. Agree the crowd should be more admiring.
Really hope I can get to the AO in person next year. The Covid situation is so volatile ATM that we decided to give it a miss this time.

Raahh · 30/01/2022 21:15

StartUp it's been a great tournament (and not just because of today's resultGrin)

I am really pleased that Ash got her win at home, (I know what it meant when Murray won here- I'm not a Murray fan, but it was a massive deal) - and that Evonne was able to give her the trophy. Ash is a true ambassador for the sport, and her country- it must have been so special.

StartupRepair · 30/01/2022 21:23

It really was @Raahh . It has been a tough two years in Melbourne and it is lovely to have something so good happen. Ash is such an antidote to players like Kyrgios. It is possible to be both humble and brilliant.

Raahh · 30/01/2022 21:27

StartUp Absolutely- Rafa and Ash are both testament to that. I love Ash. She is in a great place, professionally, and personally.

Kyrgios is, was, and always will be - an under achieving knob. I don't care what he wins. He's part of the reason the crowds were like they were.

WellTidy · 30/01/2022 21:48

Can’t believe I’m going to bed tonight in the knowledge that Rafa has won another slam. It’s been an absolutely superb day.

Raahh · 30/01/2022 21:50

It's pretty amazing, isn't it, Well. I'm still feeling quite emotional. I've been wanting Rafa to win a second one in Aus for so long.

My dc think I'm nuts. Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 30/01/2022 22:11

Yes it has been an amazing (if stressful!) day - I also can’t quite believe that Rafa has won another Grand Slam and in Australia!

I think it’s been a really good tournament - some brilliant, close matches and two amazing Champions

I also think I’ve enjoyed it more because you know who hasn’t been there - there will always be debate about what might have happened if Djok had been there but as Rafa said he could have been there - it was his choice in the end and no one can take this away from Rafa

WellTidy · 30/01/2022 22:25

I’ve absolutely loved not having Djok in the mix. It has added enormously to my enjoyment levels. Like watching the matches because they were all enjoyable, rather than watching because I didn’t want to miss, say, a semi final, and just having to tolerate that Djok was on the court against the player that I actually wanted to watch. The more time goes on, the less tolerance I have for him, and let’s face it, nothing he has done in Australia is going to improve that.

I have such a warm and fuzzy feeling for Rafa tonight. I really couldn’t be happier.

TurquoiseDress · 30/01/2022 23:37

I'm so happy for Nadal, what an amazing match from both players!Smile

JaneJeffer · 30/01/2022 23:52

What a day! I don't think I've come back to planet Earth yet.

Aww, Rafa and his dad.

I still can't quite believe yesterday happened.
I wonder how he's feeling today? If he can move at all! Grin

WellTidy · 31/01/2022 11:07

Do any of you listen to podcasts about tennis? The only podcast I listen to (apart from Desert Island Discs Smile) is The Tennis Podcast. I discovered it this time last year when I started walking to try and shift some weight and I’ve been a fan ever since. They have a huge back catalogue including some great interviews and in depth looks at players past and present. I listened to their take on the mens singles final this morning and it was so nice to hear more Rafa love.

Raahh · 31/01/2022 11:22

I don't Well - but I think I might - just to fill the gap, until the next tournament I can watch Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 31/01/2022 11:24

Ah lovely pictures of Rafa with his Dad and cuddling his trophy Smile

Yes I hope he can walk today - think he might be a little but sore!

WellTidy - I listen to the Tennis Podcast - I really like it but I’ve not listened to any other podcasts about tennis. I’m just listening to the one about yesterday’s final right now!

I haven’t got any ‘tennis’ friends in real life so I really appreciate this thread and the Tennis Podcast as my go to place for tennis chat (and occasional randomness Grin)

Hope everyone’s coping with the post slam blues today Sad

WellTidy · 31/01/2022 12:23

I really like it too Fizzy, they have great rapport and I too like the opportunity to hear all things tennis. My mum likes tennis too, but only has terrestrial channels, so she doesn’t watch as much as I do and my tennis chat is sort of tolerated (at best) by others!

Raahh they record every day during slams and I’d say twice a week in average at other times. The week in week our podcasts are best listened to just after they’re released I think as they go out of date quickly. But the interviews they do, the deep dives into players past and present and the re-lived matches in past slams and olympics are a joy to me. And they keep me company when I do long walks, which helps me now keep my weight under control. I have a lot to be grateful to them for!

Fizzywinegum · 31/01/2022 12:30

WellTidy my mum is also a tennis (and Rafa) fan and like yours only has terrestrial TV - I’ve just been in the phone to her now - she was complaining about Daniil’s t shirt yesterday - she didn’t like the colour and said that it didn’t look as if it had been washed properly Grin

I need to get her on this thread!

Raahh · 31/01/2022 12:36

That sounds really good Well. I think I will check it out.

Will have to get some blue tooth ear phones at some point. I replaced my phone in September (?)- and only realised 3 weeks ago the new one doesn't have a regular earphone jackBlush Grin. I don't listen to things on my phone often, to be fair. Grin.

Raahh · 31/01/2022 12:41

My mum loves tennis- well, as she's got older/stopped work she just watches any sport really. Especially cricket. Grin. She is the reason I started to watch tennis. She probably isn't as obsessed as me- but she lets me waffle on Grin. She's not really a Rafa fan though- so we agree to disagree on that. Grin.

magimedi · 31/01/2022 17:55

So thrilled with Rafa,s win.

If you go to the Guardian, sports, tennis and scroll down a bit there is a lovely photographic tribute of Rafa's 21 slam wins. Sorry cant do link on my ancient and irritating tablet.

JaneJeffer · 31/01/2022 19:57

Thanks magi here's the link https://www.theguardian.com/sport/gallery/2022/jan/30/rafael-nadal-21-grand-slam-salute-in-pictures-tennis-australian-open. I had a little giggle at Roger's crying face in 2009. Sorry Roger Grin
