Just started ‘This is us’ does it get any better?

Late to the game I know. I’ve only watched the pilot and am not as impressed as I thought I’d be. I honestly found Jack quite annoying. I can’t get over the fact his wife tried to give birth to TRIPLETS vaginally?! When high risk? Ummm no wonder they got that outcome! How awful.

Then there’s that guy trying to push his way into Kate’s home.

And that guy (Randolph?) bringing an absolute stranger ex druggie into his home and meeting his daughters? And his wife having no issue with it??

Maybe my standards have got too high these days but it was just so woolly and unbelievable and cliched!

I watched the first season when it came out as everyone else seemed to love it. Meh!

I like it, and I didn't need anyone to "sell" it to me. We're all different.

It’s ok to ask different opinions. There are other shows I haven’t been sure about initially but stick with after discussions about what aspects change or don’t and have been glad I did. See Parks and Recs. Also schitts creek (although I liked that since day 1).

I find it good and annoying in equal measure.

Am on season 6 now though. Will watch episodes as soon as they are available but also fast forward some if I am too irritated.

I love it, I’m on series 4, one of my favourite things for ages. It took me a while to get into it, maybe 3 episodes, I only persevered because of recommendations from friends. It took a little while but I’m totally engaged by almost all of the characters and they manage lots of tricky topics really well. Keep going!

I love the back and forth in time. I'd say it's worth a few episodes to check.

They’re very long. They need some good scenery if they’re going to be so cheesy.

Only character I like so far is Kate.

I am sticking with it because I want Kevin to get back with Sophie. But the actress who plays Sophie now has her own Netflix show. I thought the first 4 seasons were great. It was ok season 5 and ok but not gripping season 6.

I know this is an old thread but I’ve got covid and am powering through the series! I got stuck half way through series one but am now really enjoying it

Ok I’ll get back into it. I want something light. I’ve also finally discovered modern family which I like, although is still quite dated and sexist imo.

I liked it to start but then far too cheesy and hallmark

I stopped when they showed the pandemic - all the masks it was too much on top

I’ve just started season 5. I don’t know if I’m supposed to actually like the characters though? I think they’re all self absorbed twats. I don’t know if they’re just badly written or were supposed to see them this way.

I find it amazing how they go back and forth in time and have the stories intertwined. How do they keep track of the hair 🤣🤣

I am definitely in the minority, I have watched it I find it extremely Schmalzy and the writing is so transparently manipulative to make the watcher ‘cry’ It actually had the opposite effect on me and made me laugh out loud, my favourite moment being when Philip was describing how he had a row with his wife and then she drove off in a strop and got killed by a drunk driver - (it was the way it was delivered ) only on This is Us would this happen !
I did love Beth - Randal’s wife and their daughters when they were young though .

I loved it, LOVED IT. But not immediately. I had to watch the pilot 2 or 3 times before I got into it. But then I really liked it and I grew to LOVE it. The way it flashes between timelines gives it some amazing foreshadowing. And I loved some of the characters - mainly Beth and Randall and Kevin.

I found "old" Rebecca REALLY irritating though. But the penultimate episode had me in pieces crying.

Toby is a twat. Kate is great when she stops trying to be nice.

(I couldn't get into Virgin River, despite loving the actress. It was like watching a Mills & Boon novel.)

I want something light. Crikey, don’t try and get back into it then. So emotional! I made it through two series before giving up!

Currently binging US Shameless and it’s so good! Not uplifting on the surface but actually it’s quite a nice light one I think. I’d recommend it to anyone who listened right now 😅
