Is anyone going to be watching? I absolutely love it despite only ever having one go at throwing a pot at school, forgetting to take my foot off the pedal and watching as the clay shot off the wheel into the adjoining open-plan science area. Looking forward to the new host too as I felt the last one made it a bit like a vehicle for her stand-up comedy routine.

Yes a single apple was a very odd choice especially as presumably, they all knew beforehand that the end product would be white clay with only black underglaze. Perhaps with hindsight he may have opted for an apple tree or an apple pie or even a bottle of cider!

SoupDragon · 17/01/2022 14:03

I suppose a tree would have been very fragile and difficult to make, especially with how they managed with that clay.

IntermittentParps · 19/01/2022 14:56

Wasn't really wowed this week, TBH. The black and white thing is OK but I suspect needs a really superior potter to do full justice to it.
I did like Nick's but agree it was a bit small. And it was almost too detailed and busy. He is talented though.
I think Cellan's might have been better; so characterful.
Didn't think AJ's was all that; it was a bit of a big lump and the trees were rather naive.
Love raku though, so yay for next week!

Innocenta · 19/01/2022 15:30

Raku is my absolute favourite and always makes me want to start doing pottery!

So, weirdly I've been sat on the table next to Keith all afternoon whilst out with coffee with a friend. I did ask him who wins. He looked at me very seriously and said 'its a spoiler, but they all die at the end' then laughed a lot.
Lovely man.

Have to love him, it's great what he does for our local industry, he's been at a local factory this morning too.

The filming location for the Throwdown is a local working pottery museum and the local council has just cut funding to all our museums, including Gladstone. Hopefully whilst there is interest and TV companies filming here (the Colour Room movie also filmed here), they can cling on.

Saucery · 19/01/2022 16:17

Oh that’s brilliant! What a fab man he is Grin

Maybe raku week is going to be even more exciting than we thought!

I read about this. It's shocking. You'd think the current high profile of the area and activities would have protected the museums.

Gladstone has been a staple of the local community for many years, I was taken there as a kid, as were my own children. It's a place I try and support, even if it's just the cafe. Hopefully seeing it on TV will encourage people to visit, especially those that make the trip to visit Emma Bridgewater etc

Innocenta · 19/01/2022 16:46

I'd love to visit one day. Really hope the pandemic ends soon.

I'm intending to go, maybe in the spring.

Wolfcub · 23/01/2022 20:05

I would t want to be Rose carrying all those pots down those rickety stairs

Jellykat · 23/01/2022 20:10

Im thinking the same as the presenter there Grin

SoupDragon · 23/01/2022 20:11

I fully admit to being puerile enough to find this amusing and nothing will stop me sniggering.
