Well this is boring.

OP posts:
Mydoghealsmyheart · 02/01/2022 19:16

Does anyone think Trixie will end up marrying her new man and that will write her of the series out as she’s just had a baby in real life?

Akire · 02/01/2022 19:49

She was bound to end up with someone rich with her background so I will not be surprised. She must be quite old was watching the first series today. Say 4 y to qualify as nurse and midwife so 22. Then she’s been there while in 1957 so knocking on 33-35 in 1967. Although not sure if she sort ever have own child so maybe no rush.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/01/2022 20:22

Anybody watching tonight?

oohmama · 02/01/2022 20:25

Meeee

oohmama · 02/01/2022 20:25

Literally rolled my eyes when doctor turned just happened to be the on duty police doctor...

Still love it tho

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/01/2022 20:30

If they make Phyllis the unmarried baby killing mother i shall kill them.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/01/2022 20:32

Skull seemed a bit big for a newborn mind.

orangesandlemons3 · 02/01/2022 20:40

Did the babies die of natural causes or were they killed?

oohmama · 02/01/2022 20:42

No way would the rich dashing man would be doing physical work 😂😂

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/01/2022 20:45

Dr T saying a good psychiatrist will always wonder why seems to be forgetting how they dealt with mental health back then.

itsgettingweird · 02/01/2022 20:47

@orangesandlemons3

Did the babies die of natural causes or were they killed?
Stillbirth by the sounds of it.
GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/01/2022 20:48

I thought that about the size of the skull (shown wrapped in the blouse). I also wasn't expecting them to show it 😬

I thought that about the rich guy fumbling in the chimney. Surely it would've been a policeman??

jay55 · 02/01/2022 20:48

We just had the nurse in the asylum storyline, which showed no one gave a shit about women with mental health issues or trauma.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/01/2022 20:49

I wondered if the 'respectable' grandfather was going to be the father of the dead babies.

Akire · 02/01/2022 21:02

What are odds of having double still birth? Sad story line glad she didn’t go to prison at least.

Poor Phyllis looking unwell! Come on let’s not kill get off.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/01/2022 21:07

2 still births is terribly convenient for the happy clappy everything works out and nobody is ever bad mockery that CTMW has become. I believe it wasn't unheard of for adults of young girls having babies to ensure that they never made a sound so the girls believed their baby had been still born. Older series would have shown that and tried to show the difficult choices people had to make. This one has us all believe people were saints.

Like the Christmas special there is no character development. There was no exploration of the heroin which was a pity and felt like they missed a big chance there. Instead they filled the time with some comical busy night bollocks. Drugs for mum, drugs for baby and everyone was calm again with some brief chat about rehab and seeing what social services said.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 02/01/2022 21:09

Marigold didn't say anything about trying to revive the babies, so who knows if they could have lived. I also thought the skull looked bigger than a neonate, but then I've only seen adult skulls.

Pegasussnail · 02/01/2022 21:13

Didnt think much of if tonight and I usually love CTM
Don't know why - just didn't grab me.

StormyCornishSeas · 02/01/2022 21:16

I was watching. Even if it is just to watch Trixie and the fit rich guy.

I do feel like it needs pepping up somehow

ruthydoodles24f · 02/01/2022 21:18

I miss the old cast tbh

It's so sentimental now and obviously a different time period from the books which I loved ..
I always watch the Xmas one but don't think I will watch the series

Rhannion · 02/01/2022 21:21

The hidden babies had shades of Ruth Rendell/ Barbara Vine but without the suspense or twist at the end, but then it is Call The Midwife.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 02/01/2022 21:50

I rolled my eyes once again at the Turners. Of course Mrs Turner found the time to type up comprehensive notes/collate the information while she was off work with three unwell children.

Elderflower14 · 02/01/2022 22:12

So pleased that Audrey and her husband got their happy ending. I posted after their original storyline to say that my ds1 was born in similar circumstances... He was born very early and only lived for two hours...
I didn't enjoy being pregnant with ds2... I was permanently scared so I could empathise with Audrey... My consultant was a very kind man who insisted on seeing me every two weeks... When I developed pre eclampsia he had me admitted and spent time with me assuring me all would be well...
After ds2 was born he left word on the maternity ward that I wasn't to be discharged till he had been to meet him... It was a very touching moment for my DH and I to share with such a thoughtful man... 💙 ♥

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 02/01/2022 22:39

It was nice to see a recurring couple tonight, one of the things I found implausible about the earlier series was in those pre-Pill days of larger families, it was almost unheard of to see the same mother coming back for a subsequent pregnancy or ongoing storyline. The only one I can remember was the Mullockses (parents of thalidomide baby Susan).

Re Fred’s comment from last week and his daughters - didn’t he say he’d never given away someone in church before? I assumed his daughters had had register office weddings.

I don’t mind the dashing widow but I hope they don’t marry Trixie off and write her out, assuming Helen George doesn’t want to be written out; I love the fact that she’s such a competent and non-judgemental midwife. I was watching an old episode on Drama earlier where she oversees the pregnancy and birth of the stripper who then conveniently buys Valerie’s aunt’s dance school (that I’m not sure we ever heard of before or since) with the potential Rhesus factor baby, and she’s just so damned calm and knowledgeable.

StormyCornishSeas · 02/01/2022 23:02

It doesn't really bother me that they don't have more reoccurring mothers. They sort of merge into one. I remember the stories behind the births but not really the actual people
