I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

MPK has to toe the party line for now but he’ll be aware of the immense criticism of Che and so I doubt he’ll bring them back for the second season, if there is one. He won’t want poor viewing figures. Well, maybe Che will be back for the first episode so they can break up with Miranda but I can’t see them staying long term.

I’m relieved it’s over. Too much box-ticking at the expense of character development and authenticity. Cynthia Nixon has had way too much input/control. I feel like I’ve barely seen Carrie.

readwritelove · 07/02/2022 10:11

I agree @hellobunny, the Paris thing was odd. One romantic moment when he rescued Carrie from the horrible Russian, but he also fell in love with Natasha there! He was New York through and through and maybe he would have liked to be with his family! Paris is so far away and so far away from Carrie. I think he’d be quite cheesed off!

Purpleraspberry · 07/02/2022 11:38

I have watched some old SATC episodes, and people aren't joking when they say there are inconsistencies in AJLT! It is like the writers have no idea about the old episodes. I spotted the ones already mentioned in this thread: Miranda previously kissing a woman and saying she could never be gay; the berger post it note bejng overlooked at the podcast; etc.

In an early episide, Charlotte had to finish with a guy because she refused to do blow jobs. She said she could never do them yet was happily going to give Harry one in AJLT .

Wanderingowl · 07/02/2022 14:42

Charlotte and her comfort in what she would do sexually depended on the level of relationship she was in. She would do more than the others within marriage as shown when even Samantha said she would never give anal rimming while Charlotte was happy to with Trey.

deeplyambivalent · 07/02/2022 15:00

I liked the original series, skipped the movies, have found AJLT unbelievably depressing. Artificial, superficial, unbelievable, inauthentic, charmless and alienating. All the fluff and froth of the original without any of the wit or authenticity.

TheMeditativeRose · 07/02/2022 17:18

Overall I liked it. It was like catching up with an old friend you don’t see much anymore because your lives are now very different. You enjoy it, but you remember why you are no longer as close as you were.

I’d be happy for there to be more seasons. Like meeting up for a drink every Xmas.

Nailed it! It’s familiar but in a way that has all of the bad bits and very few of the good bits!

DaggerIsle · 07/02/2022 19:12

Forgot to say in the other thread I felt a bit sorry for Big's brother.
His brother's ashes scattered in Paris? It meant nothing to Big in the first place!
(Apart from meeting and falling in love with Natasha).

Thing with Che is that they were so.... boring. One dimensional and only spoke of gender identity.
I supposed they expected the audience to find the character edgy and ground breaking?
Instead they were shallow and had no chemistry with Miranda.
The 'love affair' felt like a 'let's seduce the straight lady' project.

Youngatheart00 · 07/02/2022 21:00

@TheMeditativeRose I totally agree with your summing up!

HelloBunny · 07/02/2022 21:39

As others have said, I’m kind of relieved it’s over... I liked Anthony, Rock & Carrie’s new neighbour. And Seema. I thought Steve & Harry were seriously dumbed down.
Also, even though Carrie is a fashion icon... And I don’t expect to see her in GAP chinos. I do think that wearing ball gowns was the preserve of her younger self. I liked her style in the beginning, in the BIG episodes. However it seemed regressive to have her moving back to her old apartment & wearing her old wardrobe.

HelloBunny · 07/02/2022 21:41

Also, the Natasha storyline could have been followed up! There was a lot of loose ends... And opportunity for more drama / OMG moments.

Needhelp101 · 07/02/2022 22:48

I thought Natasha came out of it, in that short scene, showing some serious grace and class. It could have been an interesting sub plot, perhaps Carrie and she developing some sort of.. friendship? Something, anyway.

ABitOfAShitShow · 07/02/2022 23:07

Not to piss on anyone’s chips but it’s illegal to scatter ashes in Paris. I assume the writers didn’t check.

I totally forgot that’s where he met Natasha!

GreenClock · 07/02/2022 23:42

I’d have liked more scenes with Natasha. A few posters on the other thread thought that she may have had his child (now an adult) which would have been interesting.

Mistressofnone · 08/02/2022 12:23

@GreenClock that would have been good! Maybe a child will come out of the wood work. I liked the Natasha episode too and hope she comes back.

Would like Aiden's wife and kids to feature too. She must be intrigued by Carrie.

The casting of Big's brother was fab. Their voices are so similar.

Youngatheart00 · 08/02/2022 13:25

Yes the brief Natasha appearance was really strange

I heard there were also a load of Big flashbacks that were hastily edited out due to the allegations made against Chris Noth

Maybe they’ve done that with his child as well? I think that would have been an excellent storyline

Kitsinthehood · 08/02/2022 23:14

I always thought Natasha was very classy. She had her marriage and her life wrecked by Carrie (and Big too) through no fault of her own, and has spent too much time trying to get away from Carrie's repeated attempts to drag her into drama. During that scene in AJLT, I just kept thinking leave her alone Carrie!
TheRealHousewife · 09/02/2022 10:35

I loved AJLT. I especially thought Rabi Jane was a great character and that she brought something to the table. Loved all Carries outfits too! As I'm a SITC virgin I'm tempted to watch those now :)

NewYearNewMinty · 09/02/2022 10:42

I felt really sorry for Carrie in that scene. She was his wife and next of kin and I thought Big's brother was quite confrontational.

Admittedly a raw nerve for me as we lost my dad last year and my mum keeps telling me we 'have to' make a decision about his ashes, despite the fact she's kept her own mum's in her wardrobe for the last 40 years.

Agree Paris for Big was a somewhat leftfield choice though. Didn't he have a vineyard in California at some point?

ElizabethG81 · 09/02/2022 11:31

When Carrie was talking to Big's brother in the restaurant and he asked her "where's Big?", for a moment I thought Carrie had forgotten to tell him that he died. That's exactly the kind of self absorbed thing she's do.

JacquelineCarlyle · 09/02/2022 22:40

Just watched the last episode and absolutely loved it - made me realise I loved the whole series and I hope they make a second one!

DDMAC · 09/02/2022 23:16

That last scene where Carrie and the radio producer guy kiss, I didn’t buy it, no chemistry. I thought the other guy was way nicer.
The tampon thing was so cringe!

RoyKentsChestHair · 10/02/2022 01:57

Yeah I liked the teacher guy too, we didn’t see enough of the producer to give a shit. Obvs he’s handsome but who even is he?

NewYearNewMinty · 10/02/2022 08:47

He's a radio producer...let's be honest, Carrie is never going to date someone 'ordinary'.
boogiewithasuitcase · 10/02/2022 10:36

I couldn't help but wonder Winkif they will bring back Big's brother if there is a second series? Didn't he tell Carrie that he was splitting up with his wife?
