Wish my labour was all of 10 min with a lot of panting and no screaming

OP posts:

yes it's like with the pregnancy isn't it - you get to see a bit of morning sickness and/or life threatening very rare complication - but do they ever show a character waking up in the middle of the night screaming with cramp - or discovering they've started leaking onto their tops? Oh no they don't!

SueBaRoomForAMincePie · 14/12/2007 22:18

ooo, no, my waters were broken and that's when reality bit. Damn right I'm a falling to the floor and screaming in agony.

XmastimePelvicfloorsandwine · 14/12/2007 22:21

I think the scriptwriters on Eastenders have used the birth of my dd2 ,the only difference being the room and the fact that i was screaming like an animal....."It's coming,it's feckin coming ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 14/12/2007 22:31

expat my ds1 was 'born in a caul' all the midwives were giggling and fussing over it
theu asked me if i wanted to keep it - had no idea wht it was and said no .they held up this piece of grey membrane i was horrified
wish i had kept it now

sparklygothkat · 14/12/2007 22:43

My waters never broke first, I had a c/s with DS1, they were broken in the 2nd stage with Dd1, and they broke just before I started pushing with Dd2 and DS2.

EricScrooge · 14/12/2007 22:46

It's always the same on telly though.

Waters break - baby comes out a few minutes later.

I think they need a reality check.

Mind you - if the truth was shown, it wouldn't make good viewing.

So that's me contradicting myself.

Damn this stream of conciousness!

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 14/12/2007 22:49

I had a homebirth with DD2 ran upstairs inbetween contractions whipped off bottoms and pants shouting at MW quick examine me. Ended up naked with window open (Scotland January 3am) pulling headboard off bed whilst DP mopped up the poo and gunk from the other end, don't ever show that do they.

S1ur · 14/12/2007 22:51

So Max delivered baby okay.. But why did she then go to hospital??? did I miss that explanation? entirely possible I admit but I'd have thought time snuggle up in bed not head into London in an ambulance?

And yes WTF with Honey? forget the being skint bit, she has two under two! how dare she look so good and well groomed and happy and relaxed. That is just plain unfair.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 14/12/2007 22:51

my waters broke baby quickly followed all but 7 hours laterGinwish i lived in soapland

S1ur · 14/12/2007 22:54

My watrs didn't break with first time and then only at very last mintue with second. I had two hbs and with my first my mw suggested I break my own waters with my fingernails!

My second was amazingly quick though, still longer than an episode of eastenders thoguh

onepieceoflollipop · 14/12/2007 22:56

Also anyone notice that Honey was b/f continually earlier in the week, yet today left babies - Janet and the fully b/fed William - with Pat all day?

And both her LOs slept the whole night through until 7.30am on an episode last week!

So realistic.

p.s. anyone know why Tanya had to stay so long in hospital with the baby (or even went to the hospital at all for that matter?)

XmastimePelvicfloorsandwine · 14/12/2007 22:57

Yes i wondered that too.

S1ur · 14/12/2007 22:58

x post lollipop

My dp suggested she went for a rest

Niecie · 14/12/2007 23:00

I was wondering that, Slur. Why was she taken to hospital the minute the ambulance arrived. Surely they would send a midwife round to do the checks. Thats what they did for me when the same thing happened. And for her to be there long enough to have loads of visitors.

No I would have been out the door as soon as I could if they had made me go in.

S1ur · 14/12/2007 23:02

Plot flange!? So that house is Tanya-free for revelations and repercussions? Perhaps she'll be home at 'poignant' moment

S1ur · 14/12/2007 23:04

Bloody stoopid though. Course she wouldn't go in, the mw would be round and prob gp in morning.

Anyone else thought "ooh she should be skin-to-skin"?

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 14/12/2007 23:33

we had an ambulance, dh having panicked after the baby was born and called 999, but the crew just hung around until the MW eventually turned up - and then hung around some more until I delivered the placenta. At least they got here a bit quicker than the MW!

zippitippitoes · 14/12/2007 23:39

i had an unplanned homebirth and went tohsopital in ambulance...baby was hypothermic due to neing born in freezing house and i split all the way up a previous episiotomy plu nstear and was beleeding al ot

i also gave brith wearting tights as i woke up and went to the loo waters broke and i got dressed and then realised the baby was coming

was so desperate to try and keep baby in never got indressed again

lou33 · 15/12/2007 00:06

i had a 22 min labour

longest one was 2hrs 20 mins

2 unexpected homebirths

1 arriving 3 mins after i got to hospital pushing baby out into my tights lol

Niecie · 15/12/2007 00:26

I don't think her labour was that quick. She took a while to get hold of Max and then for him to get back and then they called the ambulance. It probably would have lasted longer than an episode of Eastenders but it just seemed that quick because it had to be condensed.

Zippi, that sounds nasty. For me the ambulance crew were on standby whilst the mw checked me over so that they could take me to hospital if I needed stitches but thankfully I only had a minor tear so not necessary. I am very glad I got away with it.

Still think it was unrealistic that as soon as the ambulance men arrived they were loading her into the ambulance without the mw even attending.

Why is it bothering me! It isn't real, is it?

zippitippitoes · 15/12/2007 00:29

bizarrely i have been in an ambulance twice both times me and dd2 the day she was born and on her 18 th brithday when we were called to the club she celebrated in as she was unconscious ..rohipnolled..it was very odd thinking of the day she was born as she was lying there or incoherent

Niecie · 15/12/2007 01:31

That must have been very scary and a bit surreal Zippitippitoes. I hope no real harm came to your DD. Did the get the b**d who gave her the drug?

PuppyDogEyes · 15/12/2007 03:48

i swear Tanya found out her pregnancy after me, and was suppose to be the same months preg as me at some point early on.

Then how come i've still 5 weeks to go!!!

Anyway after she gave birth, DH turned to me and said, "see honey, its not that bad is it?"

he's in a for a big reality check.

i know its a soap, but some reality please??

don't get me started about Dawn and her baby!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 15/12/2007 06:48

Was it just me thinking, blonde mum (albeit slightly 'tinted'), ginger dad, Black haired baby.

Anyone seen Sean lately? Or did they not actually shag?

Niecie · 15/12/2007 16:40

According to the TV schedules, Sean is back next week or the week after - soon anyway.

Both my boys had dark hair at birth even though me and DH are naturally mousy brown. DS1 ended up mousy brown too but DS2's hair has stayed a lot darker than the rest of us. He takes after my mum I think and has her brown eyes. So I think they can get way with such things in Eastenders - genetics are a funny business.
