Connie Nielsen plays jo Harding

A woman who seems to have it all - big house -wonderful kids -doting husband - Rob , played by Christopher eccleston

But

Following a fall, an entire year is wiped from her memory and jo relieses that her perfect life may not be perfect and all that it seems

Worse still someone is keeping a terrible secret from her

Looks good and right up my street - wondering if hubby is having an affair or even if jo is playing around

Def strange. But I like it

Not sure it had an affair with gardener

Hopefully not her daughters son

Why is hubby trying to get in her phone

Then chucks it

Is son dead

I enjoyed it, just binge watched whole thing!

Rollergirl11 · 08/11/2021 19:22

@butterpuffed I don’t like the inner monologue either, it seems at odds with her personality in her other interactions.

@Blondeshavemorefun I wondered that initially about the son being dead but then I remembered the daughter said something like is Finn gracing us with his presence and the Mum said I doubt it he’s at uni and the daughter and Christopher Ecclestone shared a look which she clocked. The daughter wouldn’t have said that if he was dead.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/11/2021 19:35

Yes I saw the look

Somethinf isn’t right about Finn

Forgot it was on yesterday so will have to do an All4 catch up.

According to Amazon I bought the book (Kindle version) when it came out. Can't remember it at all! (Not a good omen...)

dayswithaY · 08/11/2021 21:02

Weird hammy acting and she keeps going on about her phone.

Lovely house though.

Rollergirl11 · 08/11/2021 21:38

On episode 2. God this program is sooo bad! The acting is appalling and it’s just ridiculously odd. Don’t think I can muster the energy to continue past this episode.

Why does Chris Eccleston always have such dreadful hair styles.

MrsFin · 09/11/2021 18:39

Lovely house though

Why are these crime dramas always set in a modern, expensive, barely furnished house with a dodgy staircase, in the middle of nowhere?

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2021 08:07

Never set on an estate with terraced houses

Personally I am finding it very gripping. I am using Catch Up and have seen the first two episodes so far.

purpleme12 · 10/11/2021 22:15

I think it's brilliant

purpleme12 · 10/11/2021 22:16

Ps the people on here who've gone past episode one, there is a thread with spoilers further down the telly addicts section which you might want to join

Winniewonka · 10/11/2021 23:54

Just watched first episode. It's very odd. I initially thought it was going to be like the real life mystery The Staircase on Netflix.
Is it just me know or does the current trend for dark green interiors and natural wood everywhere make everything so depressing?
The mermaids on the beach was bizarre but there were mermaids on her red pyjamas so maybe not too strange for them to be in her dream.
Are we to take it that the lady with the dog (last seen in Motherland) is the neighbour rudely referred to as ' World of Leather' and why is she permanently puzzled looking.
When Jo was being driven home from the hospital did she see herself at a bus stop holding a scythe (Grim Reaper reference) or did I imagine it and also confused. Too much trouble to have to sit through all the adverts again by birdwatching on Catch Up.
Lastly and I know I am being a bit pedantic but when Jo has a conversation with herself in her mind, wouldn't it be in Danish😀?

Winniewonka · 10/11/2021 23:57
  • I definitely did not type birdwatching. Should be re-watching!
purpleme12 · 11/11/2021 00:05

I was a bit confused! 🤣

KingofQueens · 11/11/2021 00:09

I have only just watched Ep1, but I really liked it. (Apart from the usual trope of the fancy expensive house -why can't people live in normal houses?)
Lots of mermaid imagery and references - she's Danish, she sculpted a mermaid, mermaid pyjamas, and of course the washed-up mermaids. The Little Mermaid of course gave up her voice for the chance to walk - what has Jo given up and for what reason?

I didn't think it strange that her internal monologue was in English - I switch between languages in my head, but I did think it odd that she didn't speak to her daughter in Danish. She's a translator - her mother language is obviously a big part of her and I would have thought she would have brought her children up bilingual. When she was trying to figure out what was going on, I thought she would have spoken in Danish to her daughter so that her husband wouldn't understand.

Where is Finn? Have they also had an argument, like the friend?

purpleme12 · 11/11/2021 00:19

Oooh I like the inference from The Little Mermaid

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2021 09:33

Didn’t even notice her pyjamas

Wonder why she didn’t talk to her friend - is it as of an affair

OP posts:
Winniewonka · 11/11/2021 13:04

When I watched first episode I did notice The Little Mermaid sculpture on her desk and connect it with her being Danish but I had forgotten it by the time it came to the beached mermaids dream.
I am going have to watch the first 15 minutes again to see if Jo saw herself at a bus stop with a scythe. It's too strange for me to ignore.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2021 13:45

Let us know @Winniewonka

Winniewonka · 11/11/2021 15:05

@Blondeshavemorefun - I haven't imagined the woman at the bus stop holding a grim reaper style scythe but whether it's Jo, it's hard to tell as we only get a brief glimpse. It's a middle-aged woman but could be Jo before she dyed her hair. They also drive by a True Crime museum/attraction. This drama is full of symbolism before we even get to the mermaids!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2021 15:52

Ok. Will check. What time roughly thanks

OP posts:
Winniewonka · 11/11/2021 19:36

@Blondeshavemorefun - I can't get the first episode to work again on Catch Up but I would say under ten minutes in. It's when she gets dressed in the skinny jeans to leave hospital and her husband drives through the town past the True Crime museum. She asks him has he taken up smoking again and immediately after we see the woman with the Grim Reaper scythe standing at a bus stop. Most peculiar.
