I am watching this for the 100th time. It's become a yearly event Grin

Just wondered what your favourite deaths were?
Who did you love?
Who drove you crazy?

I'm on season 3 at the moment and I absolutely can't stand Lisa. She's so passive aggressive and controlling. I think it's my least favourite season.
Also thought Vanessa and Keith (in the earlier seasons) were awful
I loved Bettina.

Loved all the fisher family, so wonderfully dysfunctional

@SurfBox
ive seen the actor Jeremy Sisto (?) in some dreadful series recently only saw one episode something about the FBI it was all CGI and terrible acting

The 1st 2 seasons were great;after that it never was as good.

I don’t know what season it was but Brenda’s narc mum and her french boyfriend Who was Claire’s art tutor was a low point for me. Joanna Cassidy was brilliant in the role of her mum, you could easily see why her and billy had problems
I remember the father being okay though - they were both ‘therapists’ weren’t they?

I’ve also just remembered the brother of Brenda, Billy …..felt so sad for him

Yes he was so handsome.

Yep🔥
he was ‘Channeling Jim Morrison’ in the leather trousers (pants) as they say ! You could just see how a young woman like Claire was influenced and impressed by him for a while

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 19:11

@TomAllenWife
he did take advantage of her naivety I think….and he knew that she thought he was cool / dangerous and played on it… didn’t Nate get very protective about the situation ? I can’t completely remember.
I can’t remember how it ended between them

@JudyGemstone
the Laurel Canyon episodes,were great with Patricia Clarkson and Kathy Bates and so funny Claire getting on really well with the Hippy atmosphere
Then when she heard her mum singing ‘Woodstock” in the kitchen later and you could see her thinking ‘my mum is actually cool’
(And they sang calling all angels for their friend who fell off the cliff) 😢😢

They were so good - I loved that Ruth sacked off George at the end and moved in there with Sarah and Bettina, she so needed to be with women and to stop having to care for others the whole time.

I can’t think of another show of its type with such a high calibre of actors.

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 19:59

@JudyGemstone
I had completely forgotten about George ! he made me so angry how he lied to Ruth - even though he was a very sad character he definitely played her
It was strong women looking out for her and she needed that and I felt that Ruth could have had a completely different life, you’re right the actors were all superb, it only went a little bit wrong a few times, mostly it is exceptional television.
I truly think it is time I did another rewatch

TomAllenWife · 21/07/2022 20:01

Oh Bettina was one of the best characters

She was so honest, we would definitely be friends in RL

I also loved Nathaniel Fisher 💗

Yes Nate hated Claire & Billy being friends or in a relationship

David was probably my favourite though, he was so flawed but grew so much and his relationship with. Nate went from non existent to something beautiful

Season 3 with Lisa was my low point but 1-2 and 4-5 all great

Best show ever made. Never found anything to surpass it yet. And although he was highly dysfunctional and made Keith’s life hard in lots of ways, I’ll always love David- he had the best “journey” of any of the characters (although I’m quietly fond of Billy too, mad as he was!)

if I ever need a cathartic cry I watch the final five minutes of the final episode. Even thinking about it in detail makes me well up!

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 20:07

@TomAllenWife
Michael C Hall is a really great actor, very talented

such expression in his eyes, he is perfect in SFU and Dexter I love him ❤️

Do you remember the completely unexpected kidnap by the crack addict in the van episode ?
it’s really all coming back to me thanks for the thread and replies everyone 🥰

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 20:09

@BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ
The Smiths and SFU 🥰

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 20:11

I always Loved Keith too, he was so understanding and calm and he truly loved David unconditionally aaaw I’m getting a little teary now 🥲

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 20:30

Great video 20 years on talking to the cast ❤️

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 20:48

I had completely forgotten ‘Arthur’ 😭

yea both therapists, I couldn't stand Lisa. Was so happy when they killed her off although I wish they'd done flashbacks of her demise when Hoyt confessed as it irked me we never truly knew what happened.

JudyGemstone · 22/07/2022 11:44

Keith and David’s relationship was so beautiful 😍 was the most nuanced and complex gay relationship on screen there has been at that point I think.

I know what you mean about Lisa’s death, it wasn’t made super clear, the fact Hoyt shot himself made it clear he killed her, we just didn’t really understand why.

SurfBox · 22/07/2022 17:07

i think it was because she wanted to confess; I think what the writers were going for in Hoyt's death was exploring how death doesn't always bring closure and that in death it can leave so many questions for those left behind. In other words, the audience were supposed to be bewildered and uncertain over exactly what happened as this can often happen in death.
