I am watching this for the 100th time. It's become a yearly event Grin

Just wondered what your favourite deaths were?
Who did you love?
Who drove you crazy?

I'm on season 3 at the moment and I absolutely can't stand Lisa. She's so passive aggressive and controlling. I think it's my least favourite season.
Also thought Vanessa and Keith (in the earlier seasons) were awful
I loved Bettina.

Loved all the fisher family, so wonderfully dysfunctional

This was also one of my favourite shows, absolutely loved it. Have to agree the finale was so emotional and one of the best ever. Will def watch series again. Great messed up family and yes Lisa sooo annoying. The only show have enjoyed as much as this is Succession. It is just brilliant.

HeronLanyon · 01/10/2021 04:08

Can’t read this thread for fear of spoilers but wanted to confess I am one who has the whole boxed set (on old stylée dvd!) to watch. Have just not got round to it. My dp despairs as ‘it is absolutely brilliant’.

Helocariad · 16/10/2021 20:07

Omg I've found my people! Love love love this series. The mum...Brenda....Nate, adorable and beautiful yet can be a real bastard. Claire is my favourite character though

BeaucoupFish · 17/10/2021 14:21

when Ruth took David’s Ecstacy by mistake on the camping trip is one of the many highlights

BeaucoupFish · 17/10/2021 14:22

@JudyGemstone
Wasn’t that with Nate on his bike on the Pacific Coast Highway ?

TomAllenWife · 17/10/2021 15:21

Nate took it for a family dinner

I think Ruth's camping thing was a weird dream sequence

OP posts:
BeaucoupFish · 17/10/2021 15:56

@TomAllenWife
David hid the ecstacy in the aspirin container in the bathroom cabinet then when he was getting ready for a night of clubbing realised Ruth had taken it camping - was definitely real
And Nate and taken one as well by mistake, remember it was Brenda’s first dinner at the fishers !
Found this on Entertainment ‘stars favourite episodes’

  1. Frances Conroy (Ruth Fisher)

“Life’s Too Short,” Season 1, Ep. 9

“Ruth was sort of frozen — she was a punching bag. If you think of people who are the principal caregivers, they become nonentities. It’s hard to get away from caregiving. This episode is gorgeous. Ruth ends up taking Ecstasy by mistake. She runs through the woods happily and doesn’t know what she’s happy about — just that she’s released from this terrible burden. My husband reminded me that my hair was down for that [scene], running through the woods. They had my hair up for three years to make me look older. That was something that always bothered me…. But oh, so many simple scenes were brilliantly loaded with anxiety and angst and conflict.”

Link it’s a great read actually
Making me want to watch It again for the 4th time !

Helocariad · 17/10/2021 18:32

One of my favourite episodes as well. I also love the one in S3 where Lisa throws a party for Ruth's birthday and Claire goes to see the mad architectural artwork. Funeral of a man whose partner wants a set built of the opera of Turandot. Just so surreal and beautiful.

SurfBox · 20/07/2022 10:31

The 1st 2 seasons were great;after that it never was as good.

SkeletonFight · 20/07/2022 10:48

I always mean to watch this again. The final episode was so unexpected and shocking - I cried for ages !

inmyslippers · 20/07/2022 11:55

Where can you watch it?

TomAllenWife · 20/07/2022 12:23

one of the greatest series of all time
two of hundreds of memorable moments ….
Ruth on E’s camping with Hyram the hairdresser
David caught with ‘Brad’ the escort in Vegas

loved that it was so funny in places and also heartbreaking as well
loved Lauren Ambrose as Clare a lot don’t know why, she was just so real
memorable deaths to me are the people that took LSD in the 60’s and the lad jumped off the building (then they later used his ‘cremains’ to pretend to be Lisa’s)
and the woman who thumped her boring husband round the head with a frying pan
I do a rewatch every couple of years

TwoMonthsOff · 20/07/2022 20:07

Oooh bit of a six feet under zombie !
well it is always worth a rewatch so resurrecting the thread isn’t a bad thing 😭

SurfBox · 20/07/2022 21:09

loved Lauren Ambrose as Clare a lot don’t know why, she was just so real

same,she has a brilliant presence on screen.Loved her character and she played it so well.I was of her character's age (16) at the time it started in 2002 on channel 4 so totally related to her.

Loved this episode. I think I'm going to have to rewatch. I haven't seen it for so long but remember it being so good

TwoMonthsOff · 20/07/2022 21:27

@SurfBox
Clare /`Lauren, disregarding how beautiful she is, it was her attitude, her lime green hearse and all the bad choices of partners and how she really didn’t fit in with the ‘cool kids’,at school but you always knew she was so much more than them, the fact she suffered the loss of her dad and how it affected her, So much depth to her, I don’t think she gets the credit she deserves for that role at such a young age

Do you also remember a very young Ben Foster as one of her over intense boyfriends he was brilliant too.
To this day it still stands as a masterpiece and let’s not forget Michael C Hall ❤️❤️
I love it

TwoMonthsOff · 20/07/2022 21:29

@Sisisimone
some legit tree hugging going on 😭
so brilliant

Yes! His widow gifts the bike to Nate the next day.

I had surgery earlier this year and used the 8 weeks off to rewatch SFU, loved it just as much the second time.

love Ruth’s sister Sarah’s home in Laurel Canyon, that would be the dream!

SurfBox · 21/07/2022 08:13

no i only recall her boyfriend Gabe, the tall guy whos kid brother shot himself.

I have started rewatching season 1 as I not seen it in years, 1 and 2 were my faves. Ambrose is in another highly acclaimed drama called servant which has very good reviews, i might watch it.

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 12:54

@SurfBox
he was Russell she met him at art school
I’ve also just remembered the brother of Brenda, Billy …..felt so sad for him

Yes he was so handsome.

Yes but also totally fucked up

He was so mean to Claire when they first met
And his manipulation when they dated again was terrible

@JudyGemstone
the Laurel Canyon episodes,were great with Patricia Clarkson and Kathy Bates and so funny Claire getting on really well with the Hippy atmosphere
Then when she heard her mum singing ‘Woodstock” in the kitchen later and you could see her thinking ‘my mum is actually cool’
(And they sang calling all angels for their friend who fell off the cliff) 😢😢
