Anyone watching?

OP posts:
NotMyCat · 29/09/2021 22:09

I switched it off Blush was distracted because I couldn't get into it and it was all a bit.. mumbly

Wabola · 29/09/2021 22:10

ITV must have a load of big houses they can use for their dramas, the houses are never small

Wingedharpy · 29/09/2021 22:10

I really enjoyed it.
Dark subject, granted, but I was gripped.
I'm not too worried about reality in a drama so long as it holds my interest - which it did.

StormyCornishSeas · 29/09/2021 22:11

@AnyFucker

It’s got a strange atmosphere. And looks like it was filmed during a lockdown because all the actors are about 12 feet apart. When Anna MM was disclosing her attack and started crying they were still at opposite ends of that massive chopping board

And why do so many of these dramas have folk chopping shit up all the time ? And how they are all so minted ?

Exactly! I was like give her a hug fgs. An ant would be more comforting in that situation than her DP was
Hdhdjejdj · 29/09/2021 22:12

Working class mother’s kid gets kidnapped and all we are supposed to care about are the posh women.
Fuck off.

TheSpottedZebra · 29/09/2021 22:12

See, we have great taste, Cocolapew Grin

I have lots of tester pots of greens. I think I shall commit to sploshing them on the wall this weekend. #excitingtimes

LadyCatStark · 29/09/2021 22:13

It reminds me of those Harlan Corben shows on Netflix. Why do mysteries always take place in middle class suburban estates? I’m a bit worried as we live on one 😂. It’s too obvious to be the kids. My money’s on the one from Motherland. She was gone a long time and why did she drive then the park was close enough for the kids to walk to?

Cecillie · 29/09/2021 22:13

And in case it was bothering anyone else, small girl was the child in the haunting of hill house
And she is apparently peppa pig Smile

Clawdy · 29/09/2021 22:14

I feel as if I've read this as a book years ago, but probably not. Will keep watching, for the moment, anyway.

Iamtheweedonkey · 29/09/2021 22:17

Ah I was trying to think where I've seen her before...
Cocolapew · 29/09/2021 22:20

Watching your paint dry will be more exciting than the program Zebra 😊

eddiemairswife · 29/09/2021 22:29

I t all seemed a bit sterile. Agree about the long drive to the park.

midsomermurderess · 29/09/2021 22:33

I really like Rachel Stirling's voice, low and husky.
I think the Harlan Coben comparison someone made upthread is on point. They manage to look quite classy while being essentially vapid. I'll stick with it. I quite enjoy waiting for the next episode.
I do wonder though about peoples' basic comprehension on here.

emmylousings · 29/09/2021 22:36

I think you are all being a bit harsh - I enjoyed it and thought it was exploring some quite interesting issues. Mind you, I think I would watch anything with Anna Maxwell Martin, for some reason (good acting)?

JemimaM00n · 29/09/2021 22:51

What on Earth was that U.K. government thing at the end of the credits? Does everything have to have a Union Jack on it these days?

Jux · 29/09/2021 23:18

I quite enjoyed it, but very mumbly. What is it with so many dramas these days being too quiet to hear the dialogue - and you turn the volume up and ten BAM BAM BAM some music comes bashing in at 10x the volume.

It's the sort of thing we'd watch once or twice, but give up after that. DH lurves Anna MM though.

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 30/09/2021 06:48

I like dramas like this but I’m struggling to care about any of the characters so far. Georgina, the step/daughter, is the only vaguely sympathetic one.

I’m not a fan of Rachael Stirling’s speaking voice, it sounds stilted and as though she’s just finished a course entitled “how to talk lower and slower so people will take you seriously”.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 30/09/2021 06:49

Two ovens, no dishwasher.
Think I'll stick to my urban 3bed semi, at least I have a dishwasher!

Fadingout · 30/09/2021 06:56

I’ve just watched it. I wondered if the fact that they all “live on the drive” was meant to be like some Stepford wives style drama. Can’t say I found it very good. Odd. But I’ll probably keep watching as I’ve not got much else on the go at the moment.

Wabola · 30/09/2021 07:08

Yes it was very Stepford wives, I almost expected Nicole Kidman to pop up in it

absolutelynotfabulous · 30/09/2021 07:29

Also wondered why AMM drove to the park when the kids walked there.

It reminds me a bit of The Slap, somehow. Finding it hard to like/empathise with the characters.

JustDanceAddict · 30/09/2021 07:30

It was so stilted with ridiculous holes, but I’ll prob carry in watching.
No dishwasher
Send two 10 year olds to a park 10 mins drive away - wtf!! I just about let my ds walk to/from school (5 mins) with no roads to cross at that age.
Plus all the mumbling so I had to put the subs on.

Clawdy · 30/09/2021 08:12

Quite refreshing to have a teenage daughter in it, who's not the usual sterotypical stroppy angry kid.

Onlinedilema · 30/09/2021 08:19

I enjoyed it but I am a huge fan of Anna MM.
loved the parts she played in line of duty and Motherland.
Her child is too obviously ‘bad’ for want of another word I think to have done it.
Perhaps he will show a better side to his character as the plot develops because I found him to be a spiteful horrible child.
I think the constant hand washing / not using a dishwasher is part of OCD and her need to make things clean after her attack at the party.

lazymum99 · 30/09/2021 08:36

The flashback scene where there were hands over her mouth looked like a kids hands. Did anyone else notice that. It gave me a hell of a fright so I could be mistaken
Very Harlen Coben setting.
Head teachers office immaculate with no papers, huge desk etc can’t be accurate
