Interesting!

I’m wondering whether I should watch Squid Game or Midnight Mass for my night time viewing.

RubyJam · 27/09/2021 23:01

Finished it now and loved it
So different

Garriet · 27/09/2021 23:12

I liked how it ended, though both me and my husband pretty much figured the whole thing out in episode one. From the priest’s identity, to his daughter, and even the vampire thing.

However, it was so very slow, lots of exposition and dragging dialogue scenes. Could’ve been told in less than half the time, and would have been better for it.

Rollergirl11 · 28/09/2021 09:19

It’s too wordy and all the interactions are so very contrived. Some of the acting is really bad (Riley’s Mum, the doctors Mum, even Riley to a degree). And I don’t want to hear a 5 minute monologue about campfires in the sky in answer to the question “why have you brought me here?”.

charliebear78 · 28/09/2021 11:36

I wish they would have used the actor who was in the two haunting series.
Sorry can't think of his name..but he was rather nice! Did it for me anyway!!

@charliebear78 yes I know who you mean, Luke in Haunting and Peter in Bly Manor? He would have suited Riley well. The doctor should have been the eldest sister in Haunting.

I’ve watched the ending now, and although quite sad at the end, I’m just thinking…some of them like Bev came back to life when killed without drinking blood? So why didn’t Miss Green come back to life after being sucked by the “angel”? Or does she get burnt up too?

It was okay series. But vampires that are religious? Quite funny.

I liked the many references to how shit the world is right now, loved Sheriff’s story, very poignant. Also loved references to covid I suppose; “hand washing”, “they must not leave the island”.

I’m not a fan of vampires, would have preferred gothic horror again tbh.

The mean redhead lady explained towards the end why some came back and others didn't. Most of the people who had been to communion or were "fed" in their final moments were able to regenerate and heal. I think one was just too badly injured to recover.

I understand why, in the holy land, the priest saw the thing and assumed it was an angel. It's true, the bible does describe people as being terrified in their presence.

But I don't really understand the nature of the creature. Why feed and regenerate the priest but keep the other bodies in a pile in an empty house?

And why did the priest come in foaming at the mouth and die in like the 4th episode? I'm assuming redhead poisoned him, but why?

ScreamingMeMe · 28/09/2021 21:44

I liked this better than Bly Manor - now that was boring.

I thought the ending was great.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 28/09/2021 22:01

We finished this Ystd and were completely underwhelmed, why did nobody say the word vampire?!

Depressing ending and so drawn out.

ISaySteadyOn · 29/09/2021 08:11

How far up can we discuss spoilers? Because I have some ideas but I don't want to ruin it for anyone.

lucysnowe2 · 29/09/2021 13:33

I really liked it! but around episode 5 the pacing got really really slooooow. Luckily it perked up a bit.

Love the priest, I am partial to (quite) hot vicar types.

I want to discuss the ending too @ISaySteadyOn !

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 29/09/2021 14:49

I think you have to ask mn to add spoilers to the title?!

ScreamingMeMe · 29/09/2021 16:48

It's @charliebear78 's thread so she is the one that can put spoilers/no spoilers in the title, depending on what she wants. You could always make your own spoiler thread Wink

oneglassandpuzzled · 29/09/2021 17:01

I liked it! Some good lines.

Though how anyone, even someone demented, could think that was an angel…

Wasn’t it increasing exposure to the sunlight that killed him? At first he had enough non-vampire Blood not to be affected.

I finished watching it and loved it. I loved the monologues and thought they really built up the characters and that is what I love about his work that you really get invested in the characters as feel as you know them. The Haunting of hill house was amazing. But Bly Manor did not like at all and tried to stick with it but it was excruciating to watch. But stick with this as it is beautiful in parts and really good. But then I love all things dark. I love the characters in this but shocked that no one had punched Bev who was always sticking her nose into everything. Love the way it was shot also and the way it handled the different religions with respect.

Janaih · 29/09/2021 17:15

Don't usually like supernatural things but I enjoyed episode 1 so will stick with it.

Yes is was definitely the err vampire in the room!

I'm just taking it as a statement that people will believe what they want to believe, especially if they get something out of it.

ScreamingMeMe · 29/09/2021 17:49

But Bly Manor did not like at all and tried to stick with it but it was excruciating to watch.

I felt the same about Bly Manor! I could not understand the praise it got from a lot of people. But it looks like some think the same about Midnight Mass.

We can all at least agree that Hill House was brilliant, right?

WhoWants2Know · 29/09/2021 20:48

Hill House was indeed brilliant.

ZombieEthel · 29/09/2021 20:54

I really enjoyed it. Thought it built up the foreboding well in the first episodes before cranking up the full horror. I enjoyed Hill House too. Bly Manor grew on me - but I think it was the crap English accents that let it down.

category12 · 29/09/2021 21:04

I binged the whole thing and enjoyed it too - they had some lengthy(!) conversations and it was quite slow at times, but I got drawn in.

And the imagery of Christianity is pretty gory at core - eating flesh and drinking of blood and all that - so a terrible angel makes as much sense as anything else.

charliebear78 · 29/09/2021 21:47

Oh God! I wouldn't know how too- Seriously I do not mind- discuss away.

Just report your own thread and say why, and MN will edit it for you.
IrishMel · 29/09/2021 22:22

He has a new show coming out next year called The Midnight Club so will be watching out for that.
