Any detective programmes suitable for an 11yo?

DD loves a good murder mystery and I thought she might enjoy some programmes. I'm sure I was watching Morse at a similar age.
I rarely watch TV so don't know if there is anything current/more recent that she might enjoy. Nothing too gory or involving sexual assault or similar. I'm thinking along the lines of finding a dead body in an awkward position with a pool of blood next to it. On the other hand, I think things like Murder She Wrote would
be too old fashioned.
We have Netflix & Amazon Prime as well as the usual channels.
Thanks!

Another vote for Shakespeare and Hathaway, my kids first watched at around 8/10

The4Seasons · 12/09/2021 20:58

I rewatched Sherlock (on the iplayer) over lock down with my two (11 and 13 at the time). They loved it.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 12/09/2021 21:02

Benedict Cumberbatches Sherlock, watch them first some are appropriate and a 12 others are less so and a 15 so we avoided those. DD also read my Sherlock books at 10, she sat with a dictionary or asked me words she didn't know he 'ejaculates his speech alot ie so make sure you explain that one and don't let her look it up. You also have the enola holmes books, Benedict society on disneyplus is from a book series but is a mystery so you can guess what happens next, Dd enjoy the mystery of this. We are watching Brooklyn 99 at the moment in Netflix, which she enjoys but the police work is secondary to the comedy and character relationships.

Elementary. It's not on Netflix or prime but is on one of the sky channels

QueefofSheena · 12/09/2021 21:12

New Tricks? From memory that wasn’t heavy on the sex and violence

anothernamechange224466 · 12/09/2021 21:20

Home before dark is fab

NowTheDucksAreBarking · 12/09/2021 21:30

Agatha Raisin would be perfect for this age group.

MrsEWeatherwax · 12/09/2021 21:31

Murdoch Mysteries, Castle, Bones and rizzoli and isles. My DD stated watching all of them at about 11.
Plus if you have Hallmark there are some good murder mysteries like Garage Sales etc

SpacePotato · 12/09/2021 21:36

If you get the Alibi channel there are loads on there like Murdoch mysteries.

Going back about 20 years but Veronica Mars was aimed at the teen market. American high school murder mysteries.

weebarra · 12/09/2021 21:38

Enola Holmes, my sensitive 13 year old loved it.

Cyw2018 · 12/09/2021 21:39

Philip Pullmans "ruby in the smoke" was adapted for TV, she might like that.

mrswenthworth · 12/09/2021 21:43

Mine like death in paradise, miss marple and murdoch mysteries. They loved Enola Holmes but not Sherlock.

We did also watch the irregulars on Netflix which they really liked but was a bit scary/touch and go that I didn't turn it off in some episodes.

Oblomov21 · 12/09/2021 21:45

Endeavour would be good.

eew1988 · 12/09/2021 21:48

My 13 year old favourite type of show. She started off with Poriot, Miss Marple - yes all episodes! I’d start off with these and Father Brown.

ParisNext · 12/09/2021 21:48

My Ds11 whole form are obsessed with Death in Paradise and watch it at school as a treat.

eew1988 · 12/09/2021 21:48

Enola Holmes on Netflix is also fab.

spotcheck · 12/09/2021 22:34

The Hardy Boys

They were so dreamy

PineappleCakes · 12/09/2021 22:39

Colombo (I prefer the original 70s ones)
Castle

tintodeverano2 · 12/09/2021 23:26

@MotherTruckerr

I was about to say that! There's an ITV one called Shakespeare and something that's not gory
Shakespeare and Hathaway.

My dd also loves Agatha Raisin, Aurora Teagarden and endeavour.

negomi90 · 12/09/2021 23:34

I love Jag and NCIS - NCIS is available on Prime and I think Jag probably is too.
Some dead bodies, and some gun fights and terrorism in NCIS. Not a lot of sex. Though in season 2, episode 2 is not appropriate for an 11 year old - all the episode summaries are online for you to check appropriateness.

DameAlyson · 12/09/2021 23:44

Poirot and Miss Marple? Particularly the latter.

As long as it's Joan Hickson.

waltzingparrot · 12/09/2021 23:47

Rosemary and thyme

alphabetspagetti · 13/09/2021 20:57

Thank you so much for all of these. We've watched Endeavour this evening and are looking forward to watching that each Sunday (although I think we might have to do half on a Sunday and half on a Monday). DD was slightly disappointed at how few people died but enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on.

What about the Brokenwood Mysteries? It's set in New Zealand. No swearing and it's not particularly violent.

TheWeeDonkey · 13/09/2021 21:18

What about McDonald and Dodds? Not a lot of episodes but quite easy watching.

Death in Paradise, and Agatha Christie and Columbo are a must. In fact I like the Peter Eustinov Poirot's, they would be ideal.
