Any detective programmes suitable for an 11yo?

DD loves a good murder mystery and I thought she might enjoy some programmes. I'm sure I was watching Morse at a similar age.
I rarely watch TV so don't know if there is anything current/more recent that she might enjoy. Nothing too gory or involving sexual assault or similar. I'm thinking along the lines of finding a dead body in an awkward position with a pool of blood next to it. On the other hand, I think things like Murder She Wrote would
be too old fashioned.
We have Netflix & Amazon Prime as well as the usual channels.
Thanks!

I also love aurora teagarden Blush in fact the hallmark detective programmes are good fluff.

My then-13 year old was utterly obsessed with Death In Paradise a few months back, and binge watched the lot over a couple of weeks!
Also I remember when my nephew was about 10/11, he was mad on Jonathan Creek. We're going back 20-odd years but I'm sure you'd find them somewhere, they were brilliant!

horseymum · 14/09/2021 08:59

McDonald and Dodds, Shakespeare and Hathaway, Jonathan creek, poirot

Greenhillfaraway · 14/09/2021 09:02

I’ve just rewatched the Last Detective on the UKTV Play app. Very gentle with some humour.

Keladrythesaviour · 14/09/2021 09:03

Foyles war!

YouLando · 14/09/2021 09:19

My 12 year old DD has watched all of Death in Paradise twice over 🤣

She also enjoyed Shakespeare & Hathaway, and the old BBC Miss Marples.

Mallorca Files was good too, a bit more 'racy' than DiP, but nothing particularly inappropriate.

Not Endeavour surely, quite dark and he is such a
miserable, bed jumping, arrogant sod

mogtheexcellent · 14/09/2021 10:02

I expect she will love Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries. Strong female lead and lovely 1920s fashions. Sadly not on tv at the moment but they often repeat on Drama. You can watch on Acorn Tv if you get that channel.

Ive just ought the DVDs as was only halfway through the series when Netflix took them off.

TangledUp789 · 14/09/2021 22:39

It’s probably a bit old fashioned for what you’re looking for, but Hetty Wainthropp Investigates is a nice gentle detective series. Britbox has all four series and UKTV’s free streaming service has a few episodes.

@WinterHoliday

What about the Brokenwood Mysteries? It's set in New Zealand. No swearing and it's not particularly violent.
It's a great series but you can't unsee the bizarre murder scenes.

@alphabetspagetti

Thank you so much for all of these. We've watched Endeavour this evening and are looking forward to watching that each Sunday (although I think we might have to do half on a Sunday and half on a Monday). DD was slightly disappointed at how few people died but enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on.
Midsomer Murders, if she wants a high body count.
tintodeverano2 · 20/09/2021 07:36

Rosemary & Thyme might be good too.

TheMarzipanDildo · 24/09/2021 16:34

Do you think it being old fashioned will really bother your DC? I bloody loved Poirot at that age.

Love Endeavour, Foyles War, Miss Marple too. And Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are a lot of fun.

Oakdog · 24/09/2021 16:38

As other's have said Death in Paradise. But watch out, my DC watch it over and over again and there are a lot of episodes. I think they may be addicted Grin

JacquelineCarlyle · 25/09/2021 22:20

Magnum PI on Sky - it's a remake obviously and not the same without Tom Selleck but my 10 & 12 year olds enjoy it (as do I, especially as the theme tune is the same as the original!)

SlidDownTheElephantsTrunk · 25/09/2021 22:57

The mentalist.

Not hard hitting but 'who done it' is great - funny too. My DC loved it at that age.

FrancesFlute · 26/09/2021 09:24

My love of cosy detective dramas started about this age when I come home from school on my own and watched old Miss Marples (Joan Hickson) or Morse about 4pm!
Some Jonathan Creeks probably OK if you are there with her?

PegasusReturns · 26/09/2021 09:29

Death in paradise
Sherlock
Jonathon creek

We’re all big hits at that age

crumpet · 26/09/2021 09:32

Dd had a thing for Murder She Wrote at about that age

Camandmitch · 26/09/2021 09:44

My siblings and I all enjoyed Jonathan Creek when tween/teenagers.

DO NOT let her watch Criminal Minds(!!)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/09/2021 10:24

When she's well up in her teens, Scott &Bailey, but not before. Great to have a police procedural drama with three female leads but there are many adult themes, not least in the crimes.
