Good Girls on Netflix- has anyone watched season 4? WARNING SPOILERS

I have a question about the last episode if anyone who has seen it is around.

I didn’t understand why Beth said Rio now works for her. How did that happen. I know brousin Nick is in prison but she didn’t get his job on city council. And he wasn’t in charge of Rio.

We've tweaked your title now, OP, as requested. Smile

MrsRobbieHart · 08/09/2021 20:58

I didn’t request it. But okay. Grin

Bump.

Anyone know?

I’m about to start season 4 and will get back to this thread! There’s lots on the subreddit for the show. Your question might not have an answer, as a lot of people saying the writing is a mess.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/09/2021 18:05

I assumed it was because she was now a city Councillor but don't really understand unless he was working for his brousin. Which seems doubtful.

PalmarisLongus · 16/09/2021 18:08

I watched it.

Huge spoilers...

Rio handed Beth a brown envelope. 'her acceptance speech'
It had loads of evidence in it that put Cousin Brother behind bars.
As Beth is now the town councillor, she runs the scams and schemes that brother cousin did, so Rio works for her...

Massive other spoiler..
Not that it matters, the shows cancelled so there'll be no ultimate closure on the story lines anyway.

MooChops89 · 16/09/2021 18:11

Did you know it's been cancelled?? We'll never have closure 😭 I found out halfway through season 4.

I fancy Rio so much!

I knew before I watched season 4. I hoped season 4 would wrap it all up, but it didn't. Then I looked into why it's been cancelled and wasn't impressed.
CaptainMyCaptain · 16/09/2021 18:49

Why has it been cancelled?

I quite fancy Rio too. Repulsed and attracted in almost equal measure.

Season 5 was going to be made, but the makers asked everyone to take a pay cut, everyone agreed... Except Rio.. or the actor that plays him. So they cancelled it apparently.
MrsRobbieHart · 16/09/2021 19:02

Thanks for all the responses. I didn’t realise it had been cancelled until I went googling and found a Reddit thread discussing it.

As Beth is now the town councillor, she runs the scams and schemes that brother cousin did, so Rio works for her.

See this makes no sense. Beth got a city councillor spot, but not nicks spot. And even if she did, there is no way she would just be able to take over all his dodgy operations. She wouldn’t have all his contacts, or known all his dealings. even Rio wouldn’t have known everything nick was up to. And also, Rio didn’t work for nick.

Wow! Thanks @PalmarusLongus so he did his co-workers out of a job too. I was hoping they would be able to find their way out and manage to 'go straight'.

I though Rio did work for nick? Nick kept talking about the big picture? Then in the bar, he said there would be no shelf without him, meaning Rio wouldn't even have a bar without him etc.

You know, I just don't know.. I'm making assumptions that are seemingly.based on nothing. Grin

MrsRobbieHart · 16/09/2021 19:09

When he said there would be no shelf without him I assumed he had helped him get a bar license or something as he is the city councillor.

OP posts:
PalmarisLongus · 16/09/2021 19:19

Maybe. .but Rio had all that decumentation about what Nick was into and the big bald bad actor guy that shot Beth was on Nick's payroll too.
I don't think they made it very clear at all tbh, no wonder it's hard to follow.

MrsRobbieHart · 16/09/2021 19:25

I think it was very poorly written tbh. Lots of the last season was poor but I stuck with it. Prob best it was cancelled! Grin

Isn’t that scape goating an actor when they were going to cancel it anyway? It’s a show about the 3 main women after all, I don’t believe it hung on a male supporting character.

Here’s where the story came from tvline.com/2021/07/07/good-girls-cancellation-why-nbc-season-4/ which also says the studio was looking for an excuse to cancel.

And here’s the perspective I put above, comments are interesting www.themarysue.com/scapegoating-good-girls-manny-montana/

To save others from going down the google hole I went down the other day!

I just think it’s such a shame we won’t see more Retta , she was amazing.

ginghamstarfish · 16/09/2021 19:40

Yes, watched it all, a bit disappointing. She might like danger but that guy is a murderous thug, don't get why they wouldn't have all gone off to Nevada or wherever. Beth was not a likeable character, always thinking she could get the better of those criminals and getting deeper in debt and trouble. Still it was mostly enjoyable.

ginghamstarfish · 16/09/2021 19:41

Pity they couldn't substitute the gangster man with a similar actor and go for the next series.

No idea, I wasnt involved and it's just what was reported. I did read they were hoping to go to Netflix but that deal fell through too.
AgnesNaismith · 17/09/2021 22:36

Argh, her sister was the only character I wanted to be ok Angry

Beth pissed me right off this series, absolute narcissist.

MrsRobbieHart · 17/09/2021 22:38

Beth is a horrible person isn’t she?

I loved stan and Ruby.

OP posts:
AgnesNaismith · 17/09/2021 22:52

Stan deserved better - I thought Ruby was an enabler!

bonfireheart · 17/09/2021 22:54

What a stupid last episode

PalmarisLongus · 17/09/2021 22:55

I don't actually think I can pick a character I liked this season.

Even Ben was treating Annie pretty poorly imo.

Shame it ended early, but I'm not that bothered it's ended if that makes sense.
