Anyone watching this season?

How are you finding the new judges with all new contestants? I find it rather refreshing from the other 3 judges.

Who do you think will win?

Elena? Was that it? I agree she was a one trick pony.

I got sick of the native ingredients this series. Every other dish seemed to have a wattle seed crumb or warrigal greens in it.

Davros · 27/10/2021 10:21

God yes, the native ingredients. They look and sound vile!

willselfdestructin10seconds · 27/10/2021 14:30

Agreed, Geralton wax anyone? Grin

Davros · 27/10/2021 16:33

🤮

GrandTheftWalrus · 28/10/2021 12:47

What is warrigle greens? Sounds revolting.

Person 3 only ever cooked 1 thing as well. At least the winner cooked a variety.

I don’t have a problem with the native ingredients use. I think it’s quite good really to show how native ingredients can be used.

Warrigal greens are a type of spinach. Geraldton wax is a lemony zesty flavour.

Except from 2019 (the old judges final year), the final has always concluded with a pressure test - difference this time was it was two courses rather than just one.

This years format wasn't much different from normal, a service challenge in the semi final and then a three round final, a mystery box starter, contestant's choice main and then the pressure test set by Peter Gilmour or a similar level of chef (Heston Blumenthal did it one year).

I think it works well as it 'tests' ability to plan, to think on their feet and then to emulate a show stopping desert - and I was pleased with the outcome, a worthy winner I think.

I’ve never liked the pressure test in the final. I really liked the three course own menu service challenge from the semi final type round.

I don’t have anything against using native ingredient but it seemed bonkers how many times they turned up. I guess every year there’s something they all do to death…powders, foams, samphire, deconstructed things etc.

I like Beans and Pete

There seemed more people than usual that only cooked one type of cuisine. Elise and Kishwar were both encouraged not to experiment. I'd rather people were all-rounders and tested.
