Anyone watching this season?

How are you finding the new judges with all new contestants? I find it rather refreshing from the other 3 judges.

Who do you think will win?

Yep. And when the print on the cake didn't work that should've been the moment to use it.

I also remember someone else going home with a pin in an earlier series.

Just watching tonight's. Being on mat leave means I'm completely caught up. Usually I am weeks behind lol.

I bloody love it. I'm behind two episodes and will catch up on my day off tomorrow. Beans for the win.

Depinder is a fab cook, a masterchef should have more than one type of cuisine on display. There are a lot of cooks, Depinder included, that have not really been tested.

SueblueNZ · 10/09/2021 06:06

I agree that the should showcase a range of cuisines. With open challenges some often default to the food of their own culture which doesn't demonstrate their versatility.
I have seen the entire series. I won't give away any spoilers but ... prepare for a heartbreaking episode and for a surprise (well, to me) winner.

HeronLanyon · 10/09/2021 06:15

I tend to watch this in chunks of catching up. Recently I’ve got through around 20 episodes and caught up (to uk live broadcasts).
I’ve always liked the show other than some of the early episodes when there is just too much whooping and too many contestants.
It’s also one of the more time greedy of these. It takes so long fir the simplest thing to be said. Frequently I just shout - ‘we’ve just been watching, you don’t need to spend yet another minute telling us what we’ve just seen’. The interminable insert narratives (filmed after the event and so they just don’t make sense to me) where contestants literally say what we’ve just seen. I fast forward a LOT in this - hence ability to catch up 20 episodes fairly easily.

This season - think standard is higher than recent episodes.
I like all three new judges and didn’t ever think I’d say this. I miss George in particular.
There is still so much whooping and sometimes I do think - ok so this is a chef from Melbourne - really really not sure why contestants are sometimes kind of shaking with excitement.
Final thought - there will surely come a point where every Australian alive will have been on the show (or have family member who has?).

Beens or Pete to win.
Don't like it when they bring back previous contestants. They were out for a reason.
Agree they should taken out of their comfort zone, although the fish episode on Friday was quite a challenge.

KateyKontent · 19/09/2021 11:58

Love Beens and Brent. I get a bit fed up of Depinder, she cooks a variation of the same think over and over.

I much prefer Mel, she is a great addition of heart. Andy and Jock are always together but are ok. Jock takes over too much.

I like the second chancers. I think some of them are miles better than the remaining contestants.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/09/2021 09:11

Just caught up on the last episode and actually cried. Won't give any spoilers.

willselfdestructin10seconds · 28/09/2021 21:09

There does seem to be a lot of 'playing to my strengths' this time, i.e. various regional curries or SE Asian flavours which is a little uninspired. Do like Tommy's Vietnamese inspired dishes though as seem quite varied. Love Pete who is never predictable! I did shed a tear when one of my favs 'made his announcement'.

KateyKontent · 30/09/2021 15:47

I was gutted about fave too. They could have won imho.

Beens to win. I'd be happy with Pete or Linda too.

willselfdestructin10seconds · 13/10/2021 09:52

After the fine dining challenge I thought the elimination in the stunning setting of Simpson's Gap was the right outcome, missed the brief and paid for it, you'd think it would be obvious by now! Pete just gets better and better and such a lovely guy.

KatieMcKatie · 13/10/2021 18:20

I think so too, she was the reason they lost the fine dining challenge. I'd like Pete to win. I also really like Kishwar, Tommy and Linda.

KateyKontent · 14/10/2021 00:19

I love Linda, Beans or Pete to win. I'd be happy with Tommy. I not bothered who wins tbf, As long as there are some remarkable cooks coming up.

VerbenaGirl · 17/10/2021 09:30

The new presenters have really grown on me and it was a smart move doing the comeback series with them first, so that you still had some familiarity there. Matt Preston’s hands used to really freak me out (they are too small and don’t look real)

KateyKontent · 21/10/2021 22:20

My friend loves Jock, guilty pleasure. I don't see it.

It annoys me that Andy and Jock always go around together. I wonder if Andy and Mel don't get on so well? I love Mel, she brings a much needed energy to the whole thing.

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/10/2021 10:49

I'm just waiting on the final now. I know who wins but want to see how they win as can't see it just now.

OP posts:
Davros · 23/10/2021 11:13

I'm part way through the finale but, before that, what is it with the deserts? They're rubbish! Ice cream, granita, semifreddo etc variations on that theme but sometimes weird flavours. Crumb, soil, crumble etc. Then some fruity element. I'd love to see a desert with NO ice cream or similar

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/10/2021 21:30

Just watched the final. I don't agree with it being a pressure test. It should be them cooking their own food to see how far they've come in the competition.

I totally agree, especially since my fav has never been the best in pressure tests! I didn’t like how they were all cooking with different ingredients and processes in the second round.
GrandTheftWalrus · 25/10/2021 22:13

Yeah it makes no sense.

OP posts:
Davros · 26/10/2021 09:29

I'm watching now but agree that the recreating other chefs' dishes is the least interesting challenge on the show. I think "inspired by" would be acceptable. They don't do nearly enough of the "guess the ingredients" etc type challenges (nit in the final!), they used to do loads in the series

PurpleDaisies · 26/10/2021 10:24

I really like those guess the ingredients challenges.

This was a great series overall-there were a few I was happy to be the winner. The actual winner wasn’t one of my top favourites but I was glad it wasn’t the one in second.

When are spoilers allowed!!?

Peridot1 · 26/10/2021 11:00

Really enjoyed this series. Agree it was a great move to do the comeback series last year to let the new judges bed in as it were.

I lost a tenner to DH last night. I had the one who came second as I really thought they would win.

Also agree it wasn’t fair it was a pressure test. Much better for them to do their own food.

Really enjoyed the episode where they competed against the judges etc.

Have to say Beans annoyed me towards the end. I thought she became quite cocky. I can’t remember who was cooking when she was up in the gantry in her own and she kept shouting “encouragement”. It got very old very quick - way OTT I thought.

willselfdestructin10seconds · 26/10/2021 13:08

Agree with other PP's not a great finale format, much preferred the old style individual menus. I'm disappointed with the winner, can't remember any of their previous dishes compared to the other two finalists who had very distinct styles. Feel a bit meh....

MrsDoctorDear · 27/10/2021 08:57

Agree @Peridot1 re Beans. Talk about wanting camera time, then when she got picked to judge Jock and Andy I was rolling my eyes so far back. She was a nightmare. Manoli was another very vocal one!

I'm just glad person 3 didn't win, they hadn't shown to me anything MasterChef worthy, compared to the other 2.

Davros · 27/10/2021 10:14

Agreed, the winner was a surprise. I couldn't stand the "Italian" one with glasses, forgotten her name. How much sodding pasta can one person make? Oh, she did make risotto once. I think they should limit the number of times someone is allowed to make their "heritage cuisine", it gets boring and shows less development
