I'm 36 and have such fond memories of great things shows from after school like art attack, how, fun house, byker grove! What happened to it all and live n kicking and smtv live on Saturdays!

I feel like now there are that many options people aren't watching the same thing so how do kids share their tv experiences? We only had 5 channels back then but it kind of felt like everyone was watching the same shows now fo kids just watch loads of stuff over differnt platforms? I have a young daughter and feel so sad she'll never watch fun house or the many amazing 90s shows there were for kids when I was young, or am I missing the boat, where is all the fun at for them nowadays??

Speaking of adult TV as well, I give you Eastenders the Den and Angie years. How was I allowed to watch it aged about 8?! Totally brilliant though.

AhCheeses · 12/08/2021 11:05
@AhCheeses Brillint!! Is that on you tube you got the re runs??
It says a lot about how my week is going that I read 'you got the runs' instead of 're-runs' 😩🤪

We've been watching them on iPlayer. I didn't realise how many episodes there are, we're only about half way through them!

itscomplicatedlife · 12/08/2021 12:26

@Zaragirl84 omg we had the exact same childhood!!! Wasnt it just brilliant!! And as someone said above as it's not on demand you made sure you watched it as once it was gone it was gone forever! With no rerun tv. And yes so sad about the corner shops it really is! The raccoons that was aMazing I loved that one!!! I'm from stoke on Trent I don't know if that makes a difference but we all loved our time at home and the shows were just great! Evenings too I was allowed to watch 999, causality all the best ones! I don't know even like know what to watch atm as no one has a central place as wet on differnt platforms so it's kind of affected having that commonality with everyone hasn't it...all in the name of progress but maybe it was just a time when things were just right, personally I abs loved that time of my life it all just made sense x x x

A lot of the kids ones I can actually only remember the excellent theme tunes and nothing about the show at all!

I loved Blossom! Definitely wanted to be her

BessMarvin · 12/08/2021 13:12

Someone mentioned that now it's all about trying to sell merchandise. I think there were shows like that back then, my little pony, care bears, he-man and she-ra, jem and the holograms.

@OneMorePieceofCheese

How come nobody has mentioned Press Gang? Greatest kids TV show of all time.

Would have sold my soul to be Lynda Day.

Came on to say exactly this, I think it won awards. I have the episodes lurking on our home server.

Willo the Wisp was great and quite funny even for adults.
The Wind in the Willows, Cosgrove Hall production with David Jason, Peter Sallis, Etc was very beautiful

The making of children’s drama from quality children’s literature was very important, I remember one that had Kate Bush’s ‘Running up that Hill’ as a theme tune and Chris Ellison as a baddy. Slightly after my time but didn’t they make ‘ Harry’s Mad’ as well?

I don’t see kids tv now but wonder if the quality has deteriorated….l

itscomplicatedlife · 13/08/2021 12:31

Quantum leap!!! That series was ace

Great thread! Loved 80s children's TV, the regular routine of Blue Peter Mondays and Thursdays, Grange Hill Tuesdays and Fridays and a children's 6-part drama on Wednesdays.

The best children's drama in my opinion was Break in the Sun in the early 80s. I was completely obsessed by it at the time and was so happy when it was repeated. I read the book too. So beautifully written and utterly heartbreaking. Anyone remember this?

Imagiraffe · 13/08/2021 13:24

I loved press gang. I still have a bit of a thing for dexter fletcher.

Progress2019 · 13/08/2021 14:28

We’ve recently got BritBox, and I’m working my way through Grange Hill - only 7 series on there so far though. Next I’m going to watch Press Gang, then Childrens Ward.

Theres also stuff like The Worst Witch, 28 series of Doctor Who, Worzel Gummidge, The Famous Five.

I love BritBox!

SylviasMotherSaid · 13/08/2021 14:55

My memories are Kids Incorporated ,Sylvanian Families cartoon , The Henderson Kids , Postman Pat, Gran,Bertha, Cockleshell Bay , the Pondles , Rosie and Jim , The Riddlers as I got older I liked Byker Grove and Grange Hill but there were so many others . We used to get a lot of Australian kids tv shows during the summer I remember loving one where Josh from Neighbours was one of four kids up to adventures . Also watched some 70s shows like the Herbs and the Flumps .

ChickenGotLegs · 13/08/2021 15:45

Yes!! I've been racking my brains for months trying to remember the name of this! Thanks 😆

GrandTheftWalrus · 13/08/2021 20:24

Great thread! I'm also 36 and remember gladiators etc on a Saturday night which we would then go and play on a Sunday even with the "do not try this at home" warning lol.

onthinice · 13/08/2021 20:36

Hey Arnold!

onthinice · 13/08/2021 20:37

OMG Bertha!

Bertha, oh lovely Bertha, sometimes I think you're a dreeeeeeam. 🎶

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 13/08/2021 20:42

Very nostalgic thread.

Loved Animals of Farthing Wood. My family still says "don't panic! Don't panic! Owl's found water!" Whenever anyone is having a stress about something.

Anyone remember Round The Twist? I adored that one.

Then later rising to get my homework done to watch Buffy and on Friday night watching Top of the Pops. And that awkward point when you secretly want to keep watching Blue Peter but most people at school watch Home and Away and you want to fit in....

My kids can't get their heads around not being able to just watch stuff on demand! They will never know the horror of forgetting to set the VCR and therefore missing a vitally important episode or being made to go visit your gran and not being able to watch!

Toddlerteaplease · 13/08/2021 21:32

I wasn't allowed to watch Grange Hill.
Loved Byker Grove and the Demon Headmaster. The new one just isn't as good. The headmaster isn't sinister enough!
