All stand up

Poor Liberty. That will have really gotten under her skin. Love Island apparently got huge amount of complaints from the postcard episode. This just felt so mean spirited. Who is it that they are pushing to win? Trying to sabotage the two happy couples.
I don’t particularly like Jake (and wtf was that weird outfit?!) but he did have to the sense to look gutted.
I hope Caz and Tyler go soon because I can’t stand them. The little girl voice gives me the utter creeps. They won’t last outside, they barely last in there. He’s a fuckboy.
I like Faye but her but she self sabotages and goes on the attack. Teddy is dreamy.
I can’t think of many people who have never said anything about their partner to friends/family that they’d be hurt by.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 06/08/2021 07:22

I really felt for Liberty. She looked crushed. I also think they should have shown make egging on Liam and some of the others (but mainly Liam) in CA. I think that would really make Liberty question his integrity. I was in the 'this is so harsh' camp and I still think it's incredibly manipulative but as someone said.. they will watch all of this when they get back home anyway.

I wonder though if it would have an impact on next season - everyone watching every conversation they have even more than they do now for fear of it being aired in front of them all whilst still in the villa?

Do we think they will show all of them?

icelollycraving · 06/08/2021 07:25

I think, if there is another season, they may well start whispering or actually going in the pool to talk privately.

ufucoffee · 06/08/2021 07:40

I think it's good that the producers are shaking things up. It's a game and goodness knows it's been pretty boring so far. They know what they are getting into when they go on the programme.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 06/08/2021 07:45

I don't think it's the same saying 'they will see it when they come out anyway' because they're out then, no longer as vulnerable and they'll see it in the context and time frame of the show it was shown in.

These are picked for maximum drama and, from Libertys reaction - pure pain. Watching that at home with her family would be incredibly different to watching it while the game is still on and still having to moderate your reactions to it.

I struggled with the manipulation of the postcard and this is even worse. I know it's been called boring this year (I've been one of those who said it) but the answer isn't in the long term mental health damage of its contestants.

On a different note - where are the charity's positive responses to Matt shutting down Kazs behaviour and gaslighting? He did exactly right and showed clear boundaries. No messing about, no games - that's why she was so "confused"

66babe · 06/08/2021 07:46

I don't agree @ufucoffee I'm starting to feel a bit uncomfortable
I have laughed at Faye's make up , boobs and lips
Also at Toby's inexperience
Hugo's awkwardness
Abi's bum tattoo
Chloes slurry speech ( I'm sure it's down to new veneers )
We've called Kaz a bitch

After last night I don't feel so comfortable and think this show has had its day
Have they not learned any lessons after 3 suicides ?

stockpilingallthecheese · 06/08/2021 08:08

@AngeloMysterioso

Unrelated but has anyone else noticed that Idris from Casa Amor a few seasons back literally comments on every single Love Island post on Instagram? Like every single one without fail. The thirst is real.
Haha yep, noticed the same!
imacuddler · 06/08/2021 08:15

The show is so fake now so they have to manipulate the drama. Show them forming natural relationships, set up more fun challenges with good rewards (not the stupid be sexy for your partner or dump food in their mouths challenges), mix up the couples more for dates, let the newbies settle in without too much pressure, let the public decide more who stays or goes. Show the friendships .
So many ways it could improve.

Mistressofnone · 06/08/2021 08:20

@imacuddler I agree. I think it might be better if the opening show doesn't involve coupling up. Maybe let them all mingle for a day first.

Those individuals didn't com.it suicide because of the show. That's too simplistic. If you actually want to find out why look up their history. Financial problems, previous attempts at suicide prior to show, allegations of domestic battery against a current and previous partner and press not allowing privacy whilst awaiting possible court charges.
vjg13 · 06/08/2021 08:25

I think Jake will be able to talk Liberty round, he did look contrite and embarrassed. Faye's response was awful though, I think she wants to end it with Teddy.
Loved Matt dumping Kaz.

TheTallOakTrees · 06/08/2021 08:27

@bemoretiger

I couldn't bear it when Faye was laughing hysterically while Teddy was clearly hurt. Jake at least looked genuinely mortified and a bit emotional when his clip was played.
True, he did look embarrassed. Teddy looked hurt, he genuinely liked F
TheTallOakTrees · 06/08/2021 08:28

Matt dumping Kaz simply with no drama was the best. Why play her games.

butterpuffed · 06/08/2021 08:35

@Wineat5isfine

Glad Hugo has gone (likes him to begin with). Feel sorry for Sam! He deserved a chance…seemed like a lovely chap.

Kaz is astounded that Matt dumped her, when she’s acted acted like such a twat?!! Hope she gets voted off next round.

She's just pretending she's astounded, as she wants everyone to like her. Look at the way she ran to the girls and told them about it , trying to get them to turn against Matt, who'd done nothing wrong.

She's a nasty piece of work.

Agree with all of this. I really do hope the powers that be look at ALL social media (even boring old Mumsnet Grin) to get a feel for how the show is perceived by the viewers. And learn something from it.

Most of all get rid of that hideous food "game" for next year (if there's going to be a next year) PLEASE.

YES! Absolutely. I also read about keeping the boys and girls separately for a time so they can form some friendships first.

todaysdilemma · 06/08/2021 08:50

@Chimen

Kaz does not owe Matt anything. He is equally to blame, she was vulnerable after she saw pictures of Tyler and pounced on her. She gave him a chance but he is a bit boring and takes himself too seriously. She needed a happy go lucky guy to take her mind off Tyler.

Teddy and Millie should get rid of their partners they can do so much better.

Huh? Kaz is a 26 year old woman. If she was 'vulnerable' after a few days of a man chatting to her, she needs to give her head a wobble.

The issue isn't that she went back to Tyler. Plenty of others went back to their ex-es. The difference is everyone else ENDED things and were honest with the other person before cracking on. Kaz did not apologise for not telling Matt first, she expected him to still crack on with her after she made the girls select Tyler and then was confused why she got dumped. If Matt was boring, then why didn't she end it with Matt before cracking on with Tyler??

Kaz cried when Toby and Tyler didn't give her honesty and 100% right? Why did she not give the same respect to Matt?

BizzyIzzyfruitpie · 06/08/2021 08:55

@QueenBee52

Not sure what program you've been watching but Kaz was giving Matthew 100%..

Kaz was NOT vulnerable... pissed off yes .. vulnerable no.. .. Kaz was happy to let Matthew into her bed... Matthew did NOT pounce on her.. and I think that is a very unfair and poor choice of words ...

100%. Acting surprised by what he said. It was gaslighting at its best.

Over in Twitter lots of people standing up for Kaz and shouting that it’s racism that people have turned against her. Totally wrong as she was a firm favourite for a long time for many. Her crappy behaviour is nothing to do with the colour of her skin.

mrsrobin · 06/08/2021 09:08

Well I have gone off Faye now - her behaviour was horrible - I think Teddy is better off without her.
I feel sorry for Liberty - I don't think she has a bad bone in her body and seems a sensitive soul.
Kaz is toxic - I am glad she was dumped in a single word!
These films are a bit too harsh in my opinion - not easy to watch.

todaysdilemma · 06/08/2021 09:15

I saw that on Twitter too.

What was really depressing on Twitter is the number of young women who think Matt was at fault for not chasing her and trying to win her over from Tyler. Because they've normalised this fckboi behaviour (of shitting all over boundaries) as the real measure of a good man. So Matt's self respect and knowing when to say, 'I'm done', is an alien concept. It's not a prolonged, toxic back and forth argument so they think it's not 'real love', and he was never really interested.

So while the producers may try to add some drama, a lot of it is just the contestants and their own dating behaviours come to light.

I was sad to see Abi friend zone Matt too. She really is much more lively and engaging with the men she doesn't fancy! Was the same with Sam.

Zampa · 06/08/2021 09:15

I agree that Kaz has behaved badly and didn't show Matt the same respect she demanded from Toby. However, the language used about her on this thread had been appalling. There are clear double standards shown with how Kaz is talked about when compared to other islanders such as Faye.

The same applies to how some posters talk about how Kaz speaks and how Lucinda speaks. Both were talked about negatively but there was far more vitriol directed at Kaz.

There's definitely unconscious bias at work.

Anyway, I missed the vote but would have voted for Kaz and Tyler as I'd like to see how their relationship pans out and if Tyler has his head turned again (probably).

mayjuneapril · 06/08/2021 09:15

I don’t think showing that clip of Jake was the best decision, what does it really achieve other than liberty feeling upset and embarrassed. I didn’t find it entertaining and it doesn’t effect anyone else in the group. It would have been 100x better to show him in casa amor encouraging the other boys, particularly Liam.

RavenclawsRoar · 06/08/2021 09:21

I didn't agree with movie night. The clip of Jake was from weeks ago and how humiliating for Liberty to hear that in front of everyone else. If they were going to do this, it should have been done BEFORE the re-coupling and focused only on what happened at casa amor or in the last couple of days. What's the point in rocking the boat again when they've all just made up? I'd honestly rather another dumping and then some newbies coming in for fresh drama rather than re hashing the same stuff.

todaysdilemma · 06/08/2021 09:22

Hmmm not sure about Lucinda getting less flak! She was voted off very early, and had loads of memes/mocking about the way she spoke. On Unseen Bits and After Sun. She got a LOT more abuse than Kaz, on her intelligence, playing off men, grammar lessons from Georgia. And actually she didn't disrespect any of the boys - she swerved Aaron's kiss initially and then ended things with Danny to carry on with Aaron. So the abuse was just about her personality.

Faye has had SO MUCH ABUSE. On here and all over media. Her lipstick, her dress sense, brittleness, how badly she treated Teddy, and now she's getting savaged on Twitter too.

I think the unconscious bias goes the other way - that because Kaz is a woman of colour, there's an assumption she's getting it worse. But if you run Twitter stats you'll see both Lucinda and Faye have had equal if not more abuse. And actually Kaz is still voted in.

Mistressofnone · 06/08/2021 09:35

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa that could be great if the groups bonded first! See which girls and guys emerge as ringleaders.
