Recommend a half hour comedy series for me?

Kayemm · 02/08/2021 16:45

Just finished This Way Up and I need something else to fill my half hour gap. Prefrably something with lots of episodes

I like to have a drama on the go (Borgen at the moment) and a comedy.

Recently I've loved:

Detectorists
The Good Place
Catastrophe
Schitt's Creek
Derry Girls
Fleabag

I never seem to like animations, didn't take to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and have seen all the usuals (Frends, How I met your Mother etc too many times.)

Thank you Smile

Sounds like we have similar taste. Most of my suggestions have already been mentioned but will second them.
The IT Crowd
Friday Night Dinner
Workin' Moms
Roger & Val
Mum
Detectorists
Fleabag
Catastrophe
This Way Up
Schitts Creek

I'll also add:
'There She Goes' -based on true life drama/dark comedy with David Tennant and Jessica Stevenson - you'll laugh and cry but ultimately quite
'State of the Union' - Chris O'Dowd & Rosamund Pike play couple going through separation/marriage counselling
'Back to Life'
Maybe a bit left field but we also used to really enjoy Flight of the Conchords -spoof docudrama of NZ comedy singing duo in New York

Dead to me - netflix is a nice east watch with good female characters.
Another vote for Corner gas - its old but its a nice gentle kind of comedy.

Sorry, just realised I didn't finish my comment re There She Goes. I meant to say that despite the hard/sad bits it is really heartwarming and leaves you feeling quite optimistic.

I like Kim's convenience at the moment.
Parks and Recreation
Big Bang Theory
Sheldon

TankGirl97 · 02/08/2021 21:53

Bit old, but have you watched Seinfeld? It's genius.

Indecisivelurcher · 02/08/2021 22:11

I'm enjoying ladyparts on ch4

Bimblybomeyelash · 02/08/2021 22:12

Crazy ex girlfriend.
Jane the virgin.

Both worth persevering with. If you liked the good place I’m sure you’ll like both of these. And they both have loads of series to work through!

imumme · 03/08/2021 01:09

Most of mine are already here, so I'll just say "inside no 9". It's by the guys who did the league of gentlemen- so if you enjoyed that, you'll like this. Each one is different and some are funnier than others, but all are enjoyable. All on iPlayer.

DameAlyson · 03/08/2021 01:48

No mention of Blackadder?

It doesn't quite hit its stride until the second series, imo, but from then on it's brilliant.

If you get into it, try to avoid spoilers for the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth.

ButYouJustPointedToAIIOfMe · 03/08/2021 02:18

All these are fairly old but just in case...

4 on demand

Roisin Conaty's GameFace was superb. Two series, you are very lucky OP Grin
Ditto Raised by Wolves
Crashing deserves a second appraisal. I really enjoyed it.
From the newer ones, Dead Pixels was quite funny and I also enjoyed Home (big fan of Rebekah Staton).
Phone Shop still makes me laugh now.

iplayer

Pulling (Sharon Horgan and the aforementioned Ms Staton) very, very good if you've never seen it
Also better things and shrill are watchable but more dramedy.

Netflix

As others have said, Superstore, Modern Family and Kim's Convenience will all grow on you.

Okay, see you Wink

SorryPardonWhat · 03/08/2021 02:27

Modern Family
Parks and Recreation

Benidorm is bloody hilarious. I recently watched it from the beginning again. It got tamer as the series' went on
JaninaDuszejko · 05/08/2021 08:16

'State of the Union' - Chris O'Dowd & Rosamund Pike play couple going through separation/marriage counselling

Yeah, this is good, little 15 min two handers. And another 15min one is Staged, with David Tennant and Martin Sheen but it's about the pandemic and I wonder how it will age, it caught the mood so well at the time of the first lockdown.

Benjispruce5 · 05/08/2021 15:41

I’ve just finished This Way Up too and now have crush on Richard Blush. Love Motherland and Breeders too though I always want to switch the lights on in Breeders.
King Gary is very funny. The first series anyway.

Benjispruce5 · 05/08/2021 15:42

Sssloou · 05/08/2021 15:53
