What size tv do you have and how far away do you sit from the tv?

Looking at getting a new tv and visited a friends house who had a 65 inch OLED and it was mint the picture quality was amazing!

Interested to hear views and recommendations please 😀

32 inches I think. Room to small for a larger one. And I don't like huge TV's dominating either.

1forAll74 · 08/07/2021 04:23

I think mine is about 30 ins, maybe 32, I only have a small sitting room, old house, 150 years old. I don't spend much time watching tv, never switch it on until about 7pm, and just choose what to watch, like good dramas, or travel and nature and wildlife stuff, and some documentaries. So only have freeview stuff, and not things like netfllix

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/07/2021 04:38

32in it’s mostly used as a a radio. Except when masterchef or the pottery programme with the crying guy is on.

transformandriseup · 08/07/2021 04:57

40 inches but we have a very small living room in a cottage and only sit about 4 feet away. Anything bigger would make the room look even smaller.

PhilCornwall1 · 08/07/2021 05:30

51" and I sit about 4m from it. My eyesight is shocking, but can see it perfectly.

We are thinking of getting a bigger one, just because it'll fit it the corner. Sad!!

CSIblonde · 16/07/2021 01:33

32 inch as my sitting room is small. Sit 2m away. I'm not a fan of big TV's, so wouldn't go much bigger if I had more room.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 16/07/2021 01:41

28inch and I guess 3ish metres. We also have a projector which I've no idea how big it can go up to. 8ft across at a guess. Projector is for movies and games but the actual TV is usually just for standard TV shows or just playing the music.

Holothane · 16/07/2021 06:06

Ooh 8ft I’d be in heaven with that.

StarCourt · 16/07/2021 07:09

Recently upgraded from a 32 to a 43 inch which is the biggest I could have on my wall.
We sit about 2.5m away

countrygirl99 · 16/07/2021 07:35

I hate it when we go to houses where the tv dominates the living space I finding really sad. If my DH insisted on.one I'd be the one initiating the divorce.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/07/2021 07:58

85' Sony

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/07/2021 08:00

I mean 85" Sony
inch

not feet 🤣
that'd be ridiculous

CornishPastyDownUnder · 16/07/2021 08:08

Did have 60"but just bought a 80" on special..Im the only one that uses the main lounge&im 4foot away from it-my older eyes are buggered so i politely dnt give a figSmile..now i have the problem that the teens are fighting over the old tv for bedroom..

aubreyii · 16/07/2021 08:15

35?? Medium sized. Probably small to many people. Huge TVs are ugly imo plus who wants to watch crap adverts in glorious HD? I'm a tv snob. The bigger the tv the lower the iQ

sluj · 16/07/2021 08:26

We went to John Lewis for a coffee and stopped by the TV section on the way up. Chatted to the Sony man about the special offers he had. We decided to get a 55 inch whilst we had our coffee, went back downstairs and bought the 65 inch. It is absolutely fabulous and we got so much pleasure from it during lockdown watching films and sports in 4K.
I feared it was potentially "vulgar" too at first but have come to feel sorry for people who think it's somehow a sign of superior intellect that they will continue to peer at a 32 inch SD screen up the corner. Are they trying to show that they barely watch TV as they are too busy listening to Wagner and reading 'War and Peace"? 😆 I'm not convinced.

stormelf · 16/07/2021 08:54

32inch with the sofa about 3m away. The kids sit closer as their table and chairs is closer to the TV but as it's mounted high on the wall it is still far enough away from them

YanTanTethera123 · 16/07/2021 09:13

32” and sit 4 metres away.
No way do I want the tv dominating the room.

riotlady · 16/07/2021 13:10

43 inches and sit about 3-4m away

We only just upgraded from a 35 inch one a few weeks ago- it was about 15 years old and I genuinely thought it was fine and a reasonable size but DP hated. Anyway it broke and I agreed to buying a larger one and it is genuinely SO much better!

Holothane · 16/07/2021 13:15

If I had the money I’d have a 100 inch, films would be fabulous on it, top of the range multi region blu ray as well and a decent sound bar.

MackieMayor · 16/07/2021 13:27

@countrygirl99

@countrygirl99 am interested in what makes you feel sad about someone else's TV?

countrygirl99 · 16/07/2021 13:53

@mackiemayor as a teenager I preferred to read rather than watch TV but my family insisted that TV had to be watched with the lights out so I was effectively shut out of the communal space. The way huge TV dominates the room and everyones attention gives the same feeling that if you aren't watching you don't belong there.

VorpalSword · 16/07/2021 14:00

75” but we sit about 7m away from it. The wall it is on is 5.5m so while big it doesn’t dominate.

Got a fantastic DALI sound bar to go with it.

sanityisamyth · 16/07/2021 14:06

32" I think. It's big enough I'd say. I don't want a huge screen dominating my room.

LetItBe80 · 21/07/2021 22:05

75” in main sitting room and sit around 4-5m away. 65” in other rooms.
No TV’s in bedrooms though.

Iggi999 · 21/07/2021 22:14

Ours is 10 inches and we only watch it on the 7th Tuesday of each leap year. The rest of the time it is behind a curtain to avoid room domination.
