I said the exact same when watching it last night @Dancingonmoonlight - Such a sad and sorry state of affairs.

Meltinthemiddle · 07/07/2021 10:35

I love Molly mai and what's she's now doing she looks so much younger! It's a shame that Alexandra crane went the opposite way by losing loads of weight and surgery too. She said she wanted to promote positive body image etc post love island interviews but then has completely changed the way she looks and lost her lovely curves. You only have to look at Katie price and see how addictive and damageling it can be. Young girls can't even take pictures of themselves without a filter.

PumpkinKlNG · 07/07/2021 10:43

I know quite a few women whose parents have paid for their boob jobs! Always surprises me to hear as my mum wouldn’t have ever done anything like that for me! 😂 but it’s surprisingly common.

ashmts · 07/07/2021 10:51

I can't imagine my parents' reaction to me crying about boobs in my teens. 'Don't be so bloody stupid and vain' springs to mind as a possible response. I'd have been mortified to discuss that with my parents. Still would tbh. I'm also surprised at her feeling that way at only 26, I feel like boob jobs have been out of fashion for 10 years +.

Aw Alexandra Cane was such a disappointment. I followed her on Instagram at first and loved her content, and then it all became her pushing her 'wellness plan'. She looks great, don't get me wrong, but I unfollowed as she just became another generic influencer.

TitsInAbsentia · 07/07/2021 11:38

I don't know that Faye's parents paying for a boob job at 18 was the answer to her insecurity really, wonder if that's more ramped up the "don't like it then change it" attitude to bodies that girls have now?

The big non-sequitur in this is that 'if you knew the pressures on us, you wouldn't say you disliked fake'

It's perfectly possible both to deplore both the pressures, and hate the look which comes with obvious interventions (surgery, fillers, injections)

Look at how many of us were criticising lip fillers earlier in the thread, and saying how we hated the look and that people look better without (specific examples often given).

If anyone in there was concerned about the issue, they would not have been kicking Hugo but actually talking about the issue.

They've all gone downhill in my estimation - including the producers who inspired and set up the whole thing.

I started watching only recently, when DD was old enough to want to watch and I thought I needed to know more about the programme. That was the one with Chris and Ovie. This series is so unlike it, and DD is that bit older so I wouldn't mind her watching it alone, that what I thought might become my 'guilty treat' viewing has just become a turn off. DD is rapidly losing interest too

When Faye was giving Hugo her sob story about her parents paying for her boob job because she cried from 13 to 18 about her “underdeveloped” chest I actually thought but what teenager doesn’t hate something about their body? She’s small and skinny so she probably did have a small chest, all the skinny women I know are A or B cups because if you have low body fat you’ll have a small chest. I’m not sure her parents buying her a boob job for her birthday was the right answer tbh.
potatoocity · 07/07/2021 13:00

@livingoffcoffee

Well let's see, he could have like just not said it at all. And as others have pointed out he clearly is attracted to people who've had work done.

Is he though? He quite clearly said Faye wasn't his type but liked her personality.

I'm struggling to see why you feel it's okay for the other guys to say they prefer petite blondes/blue eyes - but he can't say he prefers the natural look?

Dont get me wrong, the girls were batshit, however "I don't like X" isn't the same as "I prefer Y" because one is framed negatively

However they had zero right to really be upset, when both of them are very looks-focused themselves and are massive hypocrites.

They really did look 12 last episode, so ridiculous. Obviously a touchy subject for them.

Stardust91 · 07/07/2021 13:05

I think what grated even more for them (apart from everyone picking chloe) is the fact he put on there 'leggy blond- not fake' . I expect Faye took it as a personal insult to her.

SugarbabyMilly · 07/07/2021 13:13

Faye has the nicest figure in there (leaving aside her personality) I doubt she's jealous of anyone tbh. She and Sharon seem hot headed.

Chloe comes across as a nice person so that's probably why she's popular.

It's also not remotely relevant to this issue that Hugo has a disability. So what? I have a disability and I don't think that it gives me a free pass to make objectionable comments about others.

livingoffcoffee · 07/07/2021 13:17

@potatoocity the question was "what are your turn offs" though, so of course it was framed that way.

Because the producers aren't stupid. They knew exactly what they were doing

ashmts · 07/07/2021 13:22

@SugarbabyMilly It's also not remotely relevant to this issue that Hugo has a disability. So what? I have a disability and I don't think that it gives me a free pass to make objectionable comments about others.

It's completely relevant. Faye having a go at him, saying he doesn't understand what it's like to feel insecure about your body (as a woman, admittedly) and he should educate himself was ridiculous. I don't know if they actually know about his physical disability and resultant surgeries. If they don't, I hope when they find out they apologise for how they spoke to him.

ashmts · 07/07/2021 13:24

@SugarbabyMilly Also he wasn't making 'objectionable comments about others', he was answering a question about his preferences in the context of a challenge. It wasn't directed at anyone.

KarenofSparta · 07/07/2021 13:26

Totally.

Faye has a whole list of preferences- why can't Hugo state his main one?

SugarbabyMilly · 07/07/2021 13:35
@SugarbabyMilly Also he wasn't making 'objectionable comments about others', he was answering a question about his preferences in the context of a challenge. It wasn't directed at anyone.
That's not how it came across to me. He said it loudly. He also kept on saying it after Chloe commented that it would upset someone for him to say it before they even did the challenge.

Do you really think he's that stupid? It's either him being v out of line or the producers told him to say it.

BlueCupOrangeCup · 07/07/2021 13:38

Flip it.

If a girl said "I don't really like big muscular macho types" I bet none of the boys would flip saying "if you knew the pressure we are under to take steroids and bench our bodyweight and have coconut shoulders you wouldn't have said such a thing"

Men don't HAVE to fancy a woman. As much as she might need them to.

And in any case you can both deplore the pressures either sex is under whilst maintaining your own personal preferences.

paniniswapx3 · 07/07/2021 13:55

What is Hugo's disability? I'm not aware of anything at all but I do agree it's relevant if it's true as if it's a physical disability then likely he does know about body confidence and any issues that can come from that.

SugarbabyMilly · 07/07/2021 13:57

It's not about him having to fancy anyone.

If you've got to live with people for weeks on end it's best not to piss them off isn't it?

He could have said 'my exes were all against having any cosmetic procedures' if he really had to go there instead of 'I don't like FAKE yeah I don't like FAKE yeah I don't like FAKE'

Some people really need to stop being obtuse. The way he did it is what's wrong, body shaming is wrong.

leonpride · 07/07/2021 13:58

I get that, I'm just pointing out one is more neutral, one more negative in phrasing. Producers definitely wanted it that way, more entertaining for us. As I say, not a cause for them to be upset by

SugarbabyMilly · 07/07/2021 13:59

What is Hugo's disability? I'm not aware of anything at all but I do agree it's relevant if it's true as if it's a physical disability then likely he does know about body confidence and any issues that can come from that.

But he's also a man. Men are allowed to get fat, they are allowed to age and nobody says anything. Women are held to .different. standards than men.

Puffalicious · 07/07/2021 14:04

SugarbabyMilly you really have a bee in your bonnet. Body shaming?! I don't think so. All he said was he didn't like fake - looks or personality. If he was personal ' I find your fake, plastic boobs a turn off I'd get your point. Vive la difference. You're labouring your point now.

paniniswapx3 · 07/07/2021 14:05

I think we'll have to agree to disagree @SugarbabyMilly as you'll not convince me that he said anything that's wrong (at least no more wrong than those saying they have certain 'types on paper') and he was picked on by Faye and Sharon as they saw him as an easy target.

In my opinion, they were upset at everyone fancying Chloe as they're probably used to being the prettiest / most desirable in their social groups so didn't like the dent to their ego and then took that anger out on Hugo as they felt he was also was saying they weren't attractive.

HadEnoughOfBears · 07/07/2021 14:08

@paniniswapx3

Hugo was born with club foot and has undergone several operations.

Takes a minute to google rather than typing a whole paragraph about how you are 'not aware of anything at all'

ashmts · 07/07/2021 14:10

@paniniswapx3 What is Hugo's disability? I'm not aware of anything at all but I do agree it's relevant if it's true as if it's a physical disability then likely he does know about body confidence and any issues that can come from that.

To my knowledge, he was born with a club foot and has had multiple surgeries to correct that, and has been left with a short achilles tendon. He walks slightly on his tiptoes. He's been through more in his life than being flat-chested.

@SugarbabyMilly Agree with PP, you're labouring a point that nobody else agrees with. Only one person needs to stop being obtuse here.

ElderMillennial · 07/07/2021 14:11

I agree Hugo didn't do anything wrong in the context of the show and the task

The girls were a bit pathetic about it
