A thread for those watching Season 4 of the Handmaid's Tale on Channel 4 starting this evening. There's another thread for those who have already streamed it via Hulu, so it would be good if we could keep this one free of spoilers for episodes beyond those Channel 4 has broadcast.

I think the commander must have dementia or something but I still wouldn't trust him

@GoingGently I thought it was Sally Draper too, but googled it and the actress is McKenna Grace.

She looks really like Keirnan Shipka.

Mrs Keyes can't be Hannah. Hannah was mixed race. Mrs Keyes was not. And Hannah is only about 8/9 isn't she?

Not sure I like vengeful June, but it does make sense. Made me think of all those women who are victims of war crime and how after, they're just expected to get on with it.

Ahh I was thinking mad men too. they do look so similar! I've seen this actress in Young Sheldon recently

I think June needs to be vengeful in order to drive herself forward for the next part of their escape. She’s very ill, very weak, she can see the other handmaids are happy at the farm and don’t realise how unsafe they are. They will want to stay. She needs a driving force to push herself to lead them. They wont lead themselves and without her doing it they will all, including her, be found and killed.

Yes, June is seeing Esther as a daughter substitute - Hannah Banana was her pet name for the little girl she is searching for.

I LOVED the episode. It shows that you've got a load of seriously repressed, abused and raped women who are now angry as fuck and desperate to fight back. June and Mrs Keys have clearly been driven into madness under Gileads regime. June calling her banana reminded me of the episode where June was in hospital singing to herself 'heaven is a place on earth' as she'd completely lost the plot. I can't WAIT to see them get revenge.

Bloody amazing first episode for the season. So we know Nick has real power, aunt Lydia is SEETHING, commander Lawrence isn't dead, the children are staying in Canada, Fred is pissed, Serena is... weird?

June and Mrs Keyes are bonding over how Gilead has destroyed them, I think Mrs Keyes will join them going forward. Not sure what's going on with Commander Keyes though

Anyone else mad that the commander who was very much involved got away with a shave while aunt Lydia who had nothing to do with it - and actually was right all along about June was beaten black and blue!? Obviously I hate aunt Lydia but its just the misogyny and that important high up men are never punished or held accountable
