I’ve run out of ideas and like to have a series on the go. I have Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Things I have loved include:

Grey’s Anatomy
This is Us
Gilmore Girls
Parenthood
Desperate Housewives
ER
West Wing
Queen’s Gambit
The Crown
Anne with an E
Handmaid’s Tale
Schitt’s creek

Things I’ve tried but didn’t enjoy:
OINB
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Better call Saul
Frankie and Grace
After Life
Stranger Things
parks and Recreation

Ideas welcomed please. Something brilliant with lots of episodes that has passed me by!

@Shangrilalala I loved Our Friends in the North - what did you watch it on? I don't think it's on Prime?
Shangrilalala · 23/05/2021 22:49

@mum2jakie - Just checked - it was on Britbox. Such a fabulous cast!

Shangrilalala · 23/05/2021 22:54

One last one - Upright with Tim Minchin on Sky.

IslaMann · 23/05/2021 22:56

Mare of Eastown
The Good Doctor

Nonbio46 · 23/05/2021 23:22

I’ve just watched Little Fires Everywhere on Amazon prime and it was brilliant.

OvertheRainbow2U · 24/05/2021 07:13

Money Heist - Netflix - very clever and twisty turny

JustMeAndWheatley · 24/05/2021 08:46

Thanks so much for all these ideas. I forgot to add Offspring and Little Fires Everywhere to my original list. Loved both of those.

I picked Jane the Virgin at random and watched 2 episodes last night, enjoying both. It’s not something I would have thought to try without this thread, so thank you!

The bureau. Honestly the best thing I have watched in years and I can't understand why everyone hasn't seen it.

Standrewsschool · 24/05/2021 09:02

Hustle - superb series
Turn up Charlie - starring Idris Alba
Shakespeare and Hathaway - maybe a bit more ‘easy viewing’ but enjoyable

Standrewsschool · 24/05/2021 09:03

The Bankers - film, not series, but worth watching (and loosely based on real life)

Roodicus21 · 24/05/2021 09:20

Private Practice- a spin off from greys anatomy and better imo
Kingdom- one of my favs!

MiddleClassProblem · 24/05/2021 11:49

@JustMeAndWheatley that’s exactly how I felt about Jane the Virgin. I had written it of in my head as vacuous teenage crap but it’s much more akin to a lighter Desperate Housewives.

I also thought I wouldn’t like Gilmore Girls as it sounded schmaltzy but loved it. The same writer wrote Marvellous Mrs Maisel which is fantastic.

I have! Loved it. Although you have to pay for S3 and above now do you not?

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 24/05/2021 13:00

I agree with most of these. Also want to add Animal Kingdom on Prime. Bit like Sons of Anarchy - matriarch of a crime family etc - but some really interesting characters. Bit of gore and some fairly graphic sex scenes, so as long as you don’t mind a bit of that it’s great!

jewel1968 · 28/05/2021 10:27

I have a handy little app called Just Watch. You list your streaming services and you can then use it to search for stuff. It also makes recommendations.

Theoldwoman · 28/05/2021 10:52

Love, Victor is awesome!

RedRiverShore · 28/05/2021 16:26

Mad Men on Prime

ilovecardigans · 28/05/2021 18:13

The Kominsky Method on Netflix (2 seasons, plus season 3 drops today). Stellar cast and some of the best dialogue you will ever hear. Very, very funny, but also poignant and quite deep.

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 29/05/2021 04:16

The Americans - really gripping. It's on Netflix.
