Comedy series to watch with DC age 9 and 12?

I'd like to sit down as a family like we did in the 80s and watch something funny together. Any ideas? I wondered about Modern Family but it's a while since I watched it...would a 9 and a 12 year old like that? Are there too many sex jokes?!

Ideas welcome Smile

Bit leftfield here but what about The Mighty Boosh? It's mainly just silly and a bit weird. Or an absolute classic, Spaced!! Again, not raunchy at all and just silly and light-hearted. 🙂

We all enjoyed watching Malcolm in the Middle. My two were both a bit younger than yours when we watched it (probably too young for some of the content Blush ). They're now 10 and 13 and have been asking to watch it again.

Thanks! I've heard of those but have never seen them - I'll look them up!

Outnumbered

PPCD · 15/05/2021 13:28

Ghosts is really good and on iplayer.

mogtheexcellent · 15/05/2021 13:29

Ghosts! On bbc iplayer.

I love it and would be good for that age.

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 15/05/2021 13:29

Just about to recommend Ghosts too

Zhx3 · 15/05/2021 13:30

Mine love The Vicar of Dibley.

Cuntryhouse · 15/05/2021 13:31

Mine love Outnumbered, but are a bit younger.

PuppyMonkey · 15/05/2021 13:33

Ghosts.

Frasier. Grin

Cowbells · 15/05/2021 13:35

Ghosts is great. So is Parks & Rec. My DC loved it at about that age or a bit older. And there are so many series of it.

Twiceover · 15/05/2021 13:36

With two 11 year olds we have watched:
Modern family
Kim's convenience
The Good Place
Vicar of Dibley
Red Dwarf

They have also watched all of Friends which definitely has far too many inappropriate sex references!

Bloodypunkrockers · 15/05/2021 13:40

Definitely Ghosts

Jokes for all ages

Hellocatshome · 15/05/2021 13:43

Malcolm in the Middle
Brooklyn 99
Superstore
The last 2 maybe a bit risqué depending on what you mind your kids watching. My 10 year old likes them but we are fairly relaxed with what they watch.

Chrestomanci3 · 15/05/2021 13:51

Another vote for Malcolm in the Middle. We've also watched Futurama with them, which they love.

Smallinthesmoke · 15/05/2021 14:09

Another vote for Ghosts! Smile

SummerLightning · 15/05/2021 14:12

Friday night dinner
The good place
Another vote for ghosts and also outnumbered.

CanOfLilt · 15/05/2021 15:04

Outnumbered is a genius idea! Loved Friday night dinner too, wouldn't have occurred to me for the kids but maybe we'll give it a go (and they'll realise why we always say crimble crumble Smile)

My Dd loves 'Would I lie to you' on I player. Malcolm in the middle is in 4 od. Disney+ has lots of shows on their Star channel not all of them appropriate but lots from my childhood like the dinosaurs. Netflix has a tonne of family shows many of them with the teens of the shows from my generation as the parents which I quite like.

SummerLightning · 15/05/2021 15:57

Friday night dinner is my 12 year olds absolute favourite ever you should definitely give it a go!

User135644 · 15/05/2021 15:59

Trigger Happy TV

Bluefinger · 15/05/2021 22:44

Ds who is 11 loves father Ted and blackadder, my other two children couldn't be less interested, get them while they are young. He also loved good omens (one sex scene towards the end but quite brief).

spiderlight · 15/05/2021 23:55

Speechless - my DS watched it with us last year and loved it.

spiderlight · 15/05/2021 23:56

He also loved Friday night dinner, and we're currently watching Brooklyn 99.

covetingthepreciousthings · 16/05/2021 06:43

I love a lot of these recommended but I wouldn't watch with my 9yo DC because of the swearing Blush Friday night dinner, I think they'd just end up referring to their sibling as Piss face!
