Hope no one minds me starting a new thread as 4 was filled on one episode.

Ted has been the police so long that they won't necessarily have his DNA on file from him joining. He was arrested and interviewed last series so his DNA may be on the nominal database from then.

But this thread is only half way full?
And people will post on the other thread, rather than filling up this one first!
Mother of God, give me strength!
We need to double the surveillance teams.

@AwkwardArnottDentonFumble

Why’s that *@ThisIsSimplyBeyond*? I am not blonde but I am autistic :o
The main woman in it - Saga - is autistic. And pretty awesome.
@EsmaCannonball - I’ve just re-watched S1 as well and the civvy character stood out as really jarring to me too - I know it’s less than a decade ago that it was made but it seemed really dated, I think that kind of stereotyping wouldn’t be used today. Also the kids on the estate, Ryan’s mum etc felt a bit over-played in terms of being caricatures

I’d forgotten how much of S1 was a bit of a satire on the police service - all the digs about paperwork and overtime.

Dramatically though it might be my favourite season.
Yy. I live on an estate that has some truly awful people (one that many mners would probably be terrified of!), but the majority are normal. Kids may roam and appear "ferral" to biased onlookers if they are playing out, but their parents aren't all drug/alcohol-addled unemployed single mums who don't give a shite.
In fact, I literally don't know one family like that.

Don't think so- we check in on the new one so we can find it straight away, but fill this one up first. This one will probably be one by the time LoD starts tomorrow - there will be a feeding frenzy of speculation!
TedisnotH · 17/04/2021 11:36

Bet you people will post on the other one, today.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 17/04/2021 11:44

Amazing this I’ll give that a go then!

Still musing the dna. Jo either related to Jimmy lakewell or Ryan’s bio mum - which could explain some of his aggression. Crap mum was foster mum (either was initially good and passed checks or ocg placed with her with the help of the Hargreaves social worker).
But not sure Ryan’s dna would be nominal??

Do think Ryan’s parents connected some way.

I can't believe Ryan's Mum was a foster mum. We don't now anything about his Dad, though.
CaptainMyCaptain · 17/04/2021 13:15

PomLikeTheBattle · 17/04/2021 13:22

I need to rewatch series 1- i can vaguely remember she rubbish but circumstances change plus some people are able to deceive. Not sure of sure it works though - maybe Ryan is just a little shit who had a disinterested mum.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 17/04/2021 13:23

Placemark!

ceeveebee · 17/04/2021 13:28

I really don’t think it will be anything to do with Ryan as he’s not a nominal, and also as he’s only recently joined the police would his DNA have been checked against the databases as part of the vetting process?

quirkychick · 17/04/2021 13:35

Ooh, can I join in? I binged s1-4 a couple of years ago on Netflix and have watched s5 and have gone straight into s6. I am now binging s1 and onto s2 again after reading this thread! So many things I'd forgotten. I had forgotten how fast paced s1 was. I agree that Lindsey Denton is an excellent, complex character. Very clever but a bit of a loner, really enjoying her inscrutability.

I would also say The Bridge is absolutely excellent. I might have to binge watch that again too.

PomLikeTheBattle · 17/04/2021 13:38

@ceeveebee that my major plot hole 😂

ceeveebeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 17/04/2021 14:41

Felt I should join the name changers!!

CheekyWeeShite · 17/04/2021 15:03

So are we ready to place our bets?

I am torn between Terry Boyle and Andrew Laverty being Jo’s relative. There are problems with each but fewer than with others.

Terry makes the most sense in terms of blackmail and Ted’s reaction but Terry certainly hasn’t acted like he knows Jo.

Laverty would be quite a smart play - a way of bringing in someone we know little about without the accusation of it being cheating because it’s someone brand new to us.

What are others going with?

BentBastard · 17/04/2021 15:08

My initial knee jerk response was Tommy Hunter. On reading this thread I'm being swayed toward Terry Boyle...

EsmaCannonball · 17/04/2021 15:31

They made a point about checking Jo's DNA against databases of nominals held by other police forces, suggesting it's someone not arrested locally.

ceeveebeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 17/04/2021 15:40

They said “other police databases” which I took to mean “not the database of police officers” rather than other forces (and think has been pointed out upthread all nominals are on one central database).

Unless they mean Northern Ireland police perhaps? Confused

ClarasZoo · 17/04/2021 15:48

Idk I did think it was Osborne but that is because Shrine of Duty indicated it was a police officer. How good would it be if it was Ryan? After all, he calls her mum all the time! “Yes mum”....

PomLikeTheBattle · 17/04/2021 15:59

Jimmy lakewell is my bet. Ryan made a point of informing her.
I’d quite like her to be Ryan’s mum though.

So the returning character quite spoiled my watching previously, think will be even more annoying this series 🙁

GrandmasNightgown · 17/04/2021 16:05

NI retained DNA records are transferred to the NDNAD, which is located in England but is UK wide.

There are probably tags on the entries, and simply mean that it was originally uploaded by a different force?

I still think it will be a match to John Corbett, whose DNA was suppressed from the police part when he went under cover. And as Jo born 1979 would be biologically impossible as a full sibling, then Mother of God, she joined the police under alias and with a fake dob (user1976). Why, how, what's she up to?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/04/2021 16:28

I'm convinced Jo Davidson is an alias and the DNA will unravel things for her. I'm not sure she is aware she is related to whoever it is.

CheekyWeeShite · 17/04/2021 16:53

I thought that too initially but he doesn’t say other police forces, he says other police databases

I thought that at first, but didn’t they use his DNA from his police record to identify his remains when found?

Idk I did think it was Osborne but that is because Shrine of Duty indicated it was a police officer.

I think Osborne is H / top bent copper but not the relative - if the relative is police then Jed fucked up, the script in that scene was very clear.
