Is back 18th April. I'm so glad we are getting a series this year, I find it such great escapism.

Is anyone else a fan?

Dr Turner invented Lamisil. (Apply topically 2× daily)

One is desperately hoping he didn’t apply it topically to get a bit of slide.

So is Shelagh I should imagine.

Might prevent thrush.

It might prevent thrush.

I’d have the tweeters over DrT and a handful of lamisil all day long.

He’s probably use deep heat in winter to negate the need for the heating being on if they wanted to be daring and do it on top of the eiderdown.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 10/05/2021 18:08

Holy crap - I wouldn't want Deep Heat up there!

toocold54 · 10/05/2021 18:25

Yes I love it i can’t wait Grin

When I were a girl, late1960s, the thing that really helped you get into medical School was to be the offspring of a doctor yourself, whether male or female. The theory being that such applicants woud know what they were getting into...
One of my friends was the daugher of a GP and became a GP herself.

My ex applied deep heat to my back once and then didn't wash his hands well enough. Let's say it was an experience I am not planning to repeat Grin

I think I could wait a long long loooong time for a flaming foof 🔥

RoseBearx · 10/05/2021 18:56

He’s definitely the type to start talking about his day midway through. “Today, Shelagh, I visited a patient who presented with (grunts) a large rash on his upper back (grunts)”.

Oh. my. God.

FromHereToModernity · 10/05/2021 18:59

It's not as if female doctors were unknown at that time

Yes, that's so true. My aunt went to medical school in the 1950s. No doctors in the family prior to that.

I remember her being a hugely popular local doctor in the 1960s and 70s, and my community was far from trendy. More Emmerdale than Islington iykwim.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/05/2021 19:04

I can't imagine Catholic nuns having many dealings with Anglican ones. Even after Vatican 2, they didn't mix. My grandmas friend couldn't even go to my mums christening, as she was a Catholic and my mum C of E. and my friend who was Catholic has to have permission from his parish priest to attend his friends sisters Anglican christening.

Checkingout811 · 10/05/2021 19:06

I can’t help feeling that there’s going to be a Timothy + michael leeks storyline headed our way.

Sunbird24 · 10/05/2021 19:20

@Checkingout811 yeah, already called that one, sorry! 🤣

ImAncient · 10/05/2021 19:22

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo I shrivelled up a little bit at that Wink

FromHereToModernity · 10/05/2021 19:23

The way Dr Turner earnestly intones 'ho-mo-sexual' does my head in.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/05/2021 19:29

My great aunt born in 1910 went to train as a Dr when she left school. So by the 1950’s it wasn’t unique.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 10/05/2021 19:43

I’m not being funny but I think I’d have to fight Lucille for Cyril. I’d want to feed him some pies though for I am fat and I’d squash him.

I think Trixie is about to get flattened by the widower.

Not as much as I fancy flattening Shelagh. Nippy sprout. Calling out Nancy for her ‘mistake’ and the patient transferring to St Cuthberts.

Aye lass. You devoted yourself to God and then went to feck a doctor. If that wasn’t enough of a ‘mistake’, you chose ^that* doctor.

The only thing I have in common with her - apart from being a Jockanory - is the garden chair. Though technically they were my nan’s ones.

I like Nancy at the moment. She’s not sooking lemons and acting holier than thou. Predictable story about the delivery.

shelagh, I hope you go into Timmy’s room and find your carefully bound copies of the Lancet with pages stuck together at the mere mention of a genital.

For if I have to look at their smug coupons for ever more then surely I will be in travail.

I loved Phyllis snoozing through the football. Smile

Poor Fred and his minimiser...

The Michael story broke my heart. It is still a bloody stigma for some.

I can’t be arsed with DrT’s retrospective progressiveness but I thoroughly believe Phyllis being so forward thinking.

And SMJ finding her faith once more.
She will be on nodding terms with St Peter shortly. Meanwhile she looks beautiful in the glow of her faith.

But the placenta thing also made me cry for so many reasons.

ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 10/05/2021 19:49

@EastWestWhosBest

She is Megan Cusack. Of the Cusack acting family.
Ooh really @EastWestWhosBest.

Off to inspect how she fits into the tree.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 10/05/2021 19:52

I know it's fiction and stories and all that... but a good Tutor would prepare their pupil midwives by making sure they knew the woman's history. They'd also agree what would be needed from the visit beforehand.

Right - indulgence over.

Here’s hoping that Nance put a rubber sheet on SMJ’s bed before that baby came out doing his fitba Mexican wave.

Bless it.

I don’t think so. Michaels cheekbones put him way out of Timothy’s range. Grin

@Sunbird24 ooh great minds!
