New thread, if we can stay awake to find out what happens...

thanx bonfireheart. looking forward to the final, i might have to watch the other series! we were late finding it but glad we did!

bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 15:44

So seems like BBC and ITV have cancelled their programmes for most of today but not channel 4 and people are getting their knickers in a twist about it. I don't think every channel needs back to back prince Philip documentaries does it?!

KarensChoppyBob · 09/04/2021 15:49

What the bloody!!

Just catching up with you all.

Fuck me though I'm looking forward to the ending tonight partly due to the boring unimaginative repetitive hate spouting at Manrika, making me uneasy. I'm sure she has a normal private Insta as opposed to the Circle public one - like they all do! You do know people in the public eye have private and public ones?

It's obvious she has affection for Andy as he does for her but they both entered the game to play it, so they'll play it but deep down I think they trust each other and will be friends.

Ok seriously now, I'm hoping (like I suspect) she hasn't actually developed feelings for Natalya/Felix, or not many, and then discovering Hashu as himself, catches major feels then they skip off into the sunset 🌅 ❤️,

🤞🏻 .

Interviewedundercaution · 09/04/2021 15:50

Absolutely. We're in lockdown FFS. Life is hard enough.

bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 15:56

It's Nana Dot!!

No, I can't see channel 4 late night viewers wanting any royal stuff, unless they bring back it's a knockout.

Totally agree! It’s not like anybody can watch more than one channel at a time and I’m sure I’m not the only person not particularly interested in the life of a racist, privileged old man who lived well beyond the national average living largely on the taxpayer’s money in a year where we’ve lost tens of thousands prematurely. Obviously not the thread to start a political debate but the UK can’t grind to a halt just because one man has died. Keeping everything crossed C4 will stick to their schedule 🤞
bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 16:13

ALERT: Time for ratings

  1. Syed
  2. Andy
  3. Felix
  4. Manrika
  5. Whichever one of the newbies is left

I think it’s outrageous that BBC 1 & 2 are showing the exact same thing on Prince Phillip.

I don’t have Netflix etc just free view and the 5 main channels showing Prince Phillip‘s life and death is wrong imo.

Totally agree, it’s ridiculous to be showing the same show on both channels. It almost feels like indoctrination/ censorship to be taking away any choice from people who pay their TV licenses regarding what to watch. There will be plenty of people who don’t feel any need to mourn a man they didn’t know and that’s a completely reasonable way to feel, we’re not a dictatorship and to me stopping all broadcasting seems unnecessary. I’m glad C4 are at least resuming their normal TV schedule from 6pm.
TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/04/2021 16:20

It's part of the National Mourning protocol that the broadcasters change to the same footage, the news anchors where black and play God Save The Queen, the gray BBC information box, loads of stuff. I used to have to practice it, in my corporate life.

I think Prince Philip's was called Operation Forth Bridge...

Channel 4 seem confident that they'll show Gogglebox and The Circle; so I'm hoping they stick to that. I'd agree that it'd be hard to pull now, the NDA's are likely to expire at midnight if not when the show is due to air, there's not usually much slack built into them because they want the winners/runners up to generate buzz and interest.

TellingBone · 09/04/2021 16:42

I'd struggle to rate as a member of the viewing public. I'd want Uncle Syed the character to win, but Hanshu would do my head in as himself.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 09/04/2021 16:44

It’s sad Prince Philip has died (especially for the Queen) but I don’t think every channel needs to show the same programme about him. The children are watching old reruns of friends. Channel 4 are doing and extended News programme but I hope Gogglebox and The Circle are allowed to be broadcast.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 09/04/2021 17:05

Well Channel 4 has Four in a Bed on at moment so hopeful the Circle will be on later...

bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 17:28

The head of news for Channel 4 has confirmed that they will be doing a special show on HRH and an extended 7pm news but most of the planned programmes will continue as planned as they have a "duty to provide alternative programmes". Yay.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 09/04/2021 17:42

Excellent! It seems like the wall to wall coverage for royal deaths might be out of step with 24 hours rolling news and loads of digital channels...

Syed is far too nice for Manrika.
bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 18:12

Never in a million years would Hashu and Manrika get together in real life, but their friendship has been one of the nice things about this series.

2Rebecca · 09/04/2021 18:36

I've become team Felix. I disliked her in her first episode when she made her sanctimonious speech but I think she's played the game well. Im not sure how much choice some players have over playing themselves or a catfish and I suspect the producers insist on a certain number of catfish which is a shame as it's harder pretending.
Although Felix has led Manrika down the garden path he has never bad mouthed her or ranked her low. I think if you decide to play a catfish you have to stick with it to the end. Doing a Hunter was a mistake. Lying to people is part of the game, if you don't want to do it don't go on the circle. Syed seems an honest guy but he's sticking with uncle Syed until the end. Playing an Andy is much easier. You can't be an honest Andy if you have to play a catfish even if you may prefer to be honest. I'd prefer fewer catfish, and people only being catfish if it's their choice.

BillyIsMyBunny · 09/04/2021 18:46

Yes I’m interested in whether the producers decide who does and doesn’t get to be a catfish. On their W&A last night Joey/ Femi said he originally wanted to be himself and Pippa that she applied with a catfish persona but they didn’t elaborate on how the decision was made of whether they got to be real or catfish though.

This series has definitely had a higher percentage of catfish than previous ones though, there have been 8 players enter as Catfish (plus Orange Tally and Father Tom re-enter) compared to only 6 players going in as themselves. In S2 there were 10 playing as themselves to only 5 catfish using fake photos and in S1 there were only 3 proper catfish out of 15 players, although a lot more players were lying about their real age/ sexuality/ profession/ relationship status etc. I wonder if that had been a conscious shift by the producers to add more drama and I wonder if that is partly why the show feels less authentic/ genuine than previous series’.

Bluntness100 · 09/04/2021 18:46

I also think Hunter fessing up to Andy was a mistake, my daughter and I were shouting at the tv saying “don’t do it”. It was a terrible move. I also think if you do it, you need to either fess up immediately or carry it to the end.

Natalya doesn’t need to go in so hard on manrika though. She’s proper laying it on thick, there is carrying it through and then there’s that.

Interviewedundercaution · 09/04/2021 18:55

Gah. BBC have pulled Masterchef final. Bang goes my perfect lockdown Friday evening.

2Rebecca · 09/04/2021 18:57

Given that all felix has seen is a few pics and some superficial chat and a bit of sob story would you really fall for anyone on the Circle? I can't imagine believing anyone is really in love with me who has just chatted online and seen a few pics, and I'd be suspicious they were a con artist or trying to get votes. Felix pretending to be her boyfriend has given her extra votes. He/she could have pretended to be Tally or Gemma's boyfriend

bitheby · 09/04/2021 19:01

@pappajonessecretchild

this is the first time I have got into The Circle, after it came on after gogglebox! can someone fill me in of what this dinner is someone mentioned with the final? and is it worth me watching any of the other series? not even sure how many there are! thankyou!

I've binged all the series in a month - two previous UK series, a US series and the celebrity series for Stand Up to Cancer.
