No, it wasn't Parps because it was very understated and didn't scream "Look at meeeee!"
Well, heaven forfend that anyone should go on telly and want a bit of attention Grin
But anyway, I think we've established and agreed that the drag in question was deliberately deployed for a sleb version, which is a bit different from the normal one.
Although I still don't quite get why it would be a problem.

Missingthesea · 02/04/2021 15:08

Iwantacampervan You may be thinking of the series which had a man who made steampunk outfits for himself and his family? The things he made were amazing. Only trouble was, he had never put in a zip before, because steampunk costumes don't have zips. I'd have loved him to win!

Cocolapew · 02/04/2021 15:14

Now sewer looks wrong too thanks for that Grin

Oh how exciting. Really looking forward to it.

I think the contestants who sew for a serious hobby week in week out, like Claire with her retro clothes and Matt sewing for his drag queen boyfriend are always going to have an advantage in this competition because they’ve got so much experience and also have to use their creativity to work to a target within constraints. I’d love to see a cosplayer competing.

Netaporter · 03/04/2021 08:43

I love this show! Thanks for the heads up!

I once had to report to the BTP that whilst I was ‘minding my own business on the jubilee line watching last night’s episode of the GB sewing bee, someone behind me tried to airdrop TEN times disgusting porn to my iPad ’

I never really understood why I provided the detail of the show I was watching at the time Grin anyway I refuse to let some knobhead on the tube ruin the show for me.

HmmmWhatUserName · 03/04/2021 11:56

I love the Sewing Bee, I can't sew for toffee but it inspired me to take a pair of trousers up. They are sort of passable, I would love to sign up to a beginners sewing course after lockdown.

sweatervest · 03/04/2021 16:46

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORAY.

TonTonMacoute · 03/04/2021 20:18

Shall we wait until the first episode and then judge the range of contestants?

I don't watch any of the other shows like GBBO and the pottery one, but I think that sewing bee has got the mix of contestants in each series pretty much spot on. Always a good mix of interests and skills.

Cant wait!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/04/2021 21:24

I know TonTon

Im ridiculously excoted!

lollipoprainbow · 04/04/2021 14:53

So excited ! One of my fav tv shows.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 05/04/2021 20:26

You have made a disgruntled awd bugger very happy with your heads up.

Nice glass of Sherry and some sewing. Bliss.

Poshjock · 05/04/2021 21:10

Just saw the advert for it tonight. So happy. Sewing Bee is my happy programme and just in time to fill the gaping hole that Pottery Throw Down left.

cateycloggs · 05/04/2021 22:52

Or tailoring , IntermittenParps, I really enjoyed past episodes were they made men's jackets, waistcoats, overcoats even pajamas, wish they did more as it is a fascinating process.

I have always thought the prize given to the winner is a bit pathetic and just had a thought they should have the winner make a 3 piece suit for Patrick like Portrait Painter of The Year.

Is your username a reference to Toad of Toad Hall?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/04/2021 23:16

Love Sewing Bee
Every time we get to the final I always say I will get a sewing machine & start making my own clothes.
Maybe this time I will Smile

cateycloggs · 06/04/2021 00:17

@Iwantacampervan

If my memory serves me correctly one of the early series had a contestant (a man I think) who made costumes for re enactment. I remember a shirt that was made.
I was going to say the same, it may have been 5 or 6 years ago but i remember he did very well. He designed and made his own 18th Century style costumes, entirely self taught and a non-sewing/design day job. I seem to remember they made a man's coat that season which is one of the things I would like to see more of. Does anyone remember the policeman who made a reproduction of a 19th Century (I think) policeman's jacket. It sounds like I am only into men's style now but I do love a lot of the dresses, skirts etc for women too. I just love to see real technical skills being exercised. Looking forward to the jewellery design show also starting next Tueday, I think.
Nith · 06/04/2021 09:55

I didn't think it would catch my attention but one time when channel hopping I saw them making a rain jacket each for a dog, out of tents that had been abandoned at Glastonbury. They had to devise the pattern, cut the material correctly etc. The end result was really good

To be honest, that's the sort of thing that I put in the jumping the shark category. I mean, who the hell would bother to do that off their own bat in a million years? I vaguely remember something equally batshit using the material from beach umbrellas or something. I hope they revert to something more realistic this time around.

SoupDragon · 06/04/2021 10:06

I think it's good to show that sewing doesn't have to be all about patterns. It's not about whether you would ordinarily make a dog coat out of a tent but more making them think outside the box and show how to reuse fabrics

GoofyIsACow · 06/04/2021 10:07

fabulous, can’t wait!

IntermittentParps · 06/04/2021 10:57

cateycloggs, I agree, the men's tailoring process is really interesting and takes so much skill.

My name is from a review I read about the subtitles of a programme on sleep/snoring where people's snores were described not as plain 'snoring' but as more exciting things including 'intermittent parps' Grin

Cocolapew · 06/04/2021 11:02

I'm looking forward to the jewellery programme too.
Here's the line up

I'm fine with that, I normally like the section where they make something up out of their heads. But you can do that without going for the wildly improbable that no-one in their right minds would contemplate if they didn't have to.
