Did anyone watch this (2nd part still to come)

Young girl Jodi Jones murdered horrifically in woods in Dalkeith, boyfriend was arrested and has been in jail for her murder for the last 18 years but always said he was innocent....

I’m from Edinburgh so was very close to home and remember the aftermath and remember Luke Mitchell’s picture on the front of every single newspaper, he never stood a fair trial from the start...

Wondered what everyone else thought about it?

Having listened to half of the Skinwalker podcast the amount of information the channel 5 documentary left out was huge.

AlexCabot · 06/03/2021 15:47

This 'documentary' was so one sided it should have fallen over.

Of course he's going to look innocent if none of the evidence against him is presented. Any convicted criminal would!

Apparently the reason his mother is now destitute was something to do with a lawsuit brought against her for a carbon monoxide death in one of her caravans. Not sure if that's actually true, something I heard from someone local.

The footage from the lie detector tests was interesting. If you believe in body language theory, there's something in Luke's mother nodding and slightly smirking every time she answered "no".

I don't think anyone can form a definite opinion on his guilt or innocence based on this documentary as it was so biased. I was a little confused about the involvement of Luke's brother and why the alibi "fell apart".

his relationship with his mother was weird

According to people who knew them well, this is a significant understatement.

Marmozet3 · 06/03/2021 15:55

Now I've listened to a podcast by James English who talks to his mother.

Interestingly there is another suspect who actually confessed to the murder.

RubyWooRed · 06/03/2021 19:10

I still believe he is guilty

This documentary was ridiculous

AlternativePerspective · 06/03/2021 20:46

Interestingly there is another suspect who actually confessed to the murder. According to who? His mother?

Criminologist Dr Sandra Lean who has been following the case all along. Apparently she has written a book about it which is I'm interested in reading.

@Covidcorvid

I totally get the documentary was very one sided.

But if it was him to leave no dna and to have no dna on him/at his house seems unbelievable. Especially when he had dirty fingernails according to the police. Surely if killed someone you’d be scrubbing your hands? But guess he could have scrubbed his hands and then dirtied them again?

I guess a total psychopath can lie and pass a lie detector test. And maybe his mum has spent so much time convincing herself he can’t have done it that she’s also able to pass a lie detector test? 🤷‍♀️

But then why not admit it now....especially as he’s coming up to a time period where he would be eligible for parole? Doesn’t he have to admit it to get parole? But maybe he thinks life in prison is better than coming out after admitting it knowing he will have no job, no friends, no relationships, no money, maybe struggle with housing, etc. I suppose people get institutionalised after so long in prison and maybe he thinks that’s a better prospect?

I read there was DNA, but given they were in an intimate relationship both defence and prosecution agreed that they couldn’t pinpoint when that DNA was transferred.

He had Donald Findlay as a QC, and he is one of the sharpest defence lawyers in Scotland.

Terrible to hear that a 19 year old girl was raped this weekend on the same path that Jodi Jones was found. The area is cordoned off, and police presence high.
I hope the documentary hasn't created some type of "inspiration" for the attack.

RubyWooRed · 09/03/2021 14:01

That’s awful!
